Pairing: Lex/Clark
Author on LJ:don't know
Author Website:Crimsonquill
Why this must be read:

To quote the author's summary "Something happens that makes Clark doubt his place in his parents' life."

A little angst, a Clark I could relate to and a wonderful supportive Lex. Season 2 ish. I liked the way the author took a look at Clark's feelings towards his place in his parents' life. I found it rare to find a story that explores Clark's feelings of insecurity and longing to belong. This is one of the early stories I read. It still gets to me after over 3 years. Must be something in there. : )

Why this must be read:

Oh, how I *heart* the Spark Girls' site. The writing is always perfect, the situations never forced or dissonant. Plus, there's just *so much* good stuff to choose from. This is one of my fave stories, mostly because it's Mandy Hampton at the centre. Part of me really wants to know more about her, her character lost to the wind as it was, what might have been. I'm a great fan of the alternative reality, the other possibilities... this story just makes me want more.

Pairing: Simon/River

Author's Website: but george you're a communist

Why this must be read:

Perfectly captures everything that makes [a fucked up, twisted kind of] sense about this pairing.

"There are so many sheep," River adds, like an afterthought. "Nations of them. They stare at the sky, planning their revenge and the mathematics of the stars."

Most of the time Simon really does believe that River makes sense on some level, and that it's maybe just a different one, one he can't -- none of the rest of them can -- reach.

Sometimes he doesn't.

10:19 pm The Seven Deadly Virtuals by Penny Dreadful (R)
Fandom: BLAKE'S 7
Pairing: Um, sort of Travis/ocf, only not really.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] archibishopm
Author Website: On-Line Fan Fiction
Why this must be read:

I'd kind of intended not to repeat the same authors in my recs this month, but a lot of the stories it's crossed my mind to rec have already been done, and, while Penny's output isn't very high, it's uniformly brilliant, and I really don't think her stuff has been pimped on here often enough.

In a way, recommending this story almost feels like cheating, because in a sense it's almost not a B7 fic at all. It's more of a meta... thing... that, uh... You know what? I can't even really describe it. Which is, well, why it must simply be read. That, of course, and the fact that it's well-written, creative, clever, wonderfully funny, and actually a very good piece of science fiction.

Here's a small taste. )
