01:06 am Black and Bruised by Rosemary (NC-17)
Heya, I'm MistoKitt and I'll be your Starsky & Hutch driver for March! I have the attention span of an earthworm, so I have a tendancy to lean toward shorter fics, with the occasional longer fic thrown in for good measure. I'm also a bit of a first time junkie, so you can expect quite a few of those on the list this month. And so, let's start out a hopefully smooth ride with...

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tiranog
Author Website: none

Why this must be read:

A rift has developed between the partners, and while Hutch has known about it all along, Starsky finally starts to take notice when he tries to help nurse his injured partner back to health.
Originally published in the zine TLC, this is one of those hurt/comfort stories that just makes you turn angsty one moment and full of warm fuzzies the next. The author's writing style is one of my favorites to date. She manages to get everything in there, from perfect imagery to believable dialogue.

02:42 am Musings and Reflections by Thundera Tiger (PG)
Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] nightwalker and I'll be your Lord of the Rings driver for the month. Please be warned that I tend to swerve all over the place, often come to sudden stops and will shamelessly ogle schoolgirls while I'm supposed to have my eyes on the road.

For my first story, something short, dark (literally) and very, very satisfying.

Fandom: LORD OF THE RINGS
Pairing: None (Legolas/Gimli if you really want it to be)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thunderatiger
Author Website: Her ff.net profile
Why this must be read: Excellent characterization, vivid details - pretty hard to accomplish when the main character spends half the story unable to see anything - and a style of writing that pulls you into not only the story, but Middle Earth as well. Thundera Tiger is a book fan, but movie fans will not be left adrift by her stories. On the contrary, she tends to grab you by the throat and pull you in until the story has finished. Musings and Reflections, while short compared to some of her writings, are perfect examples of this.

Summary: Separated by a cave-in, Legolas and Gimli each find themselves trapped in the dark, uncertain of the other's condition, and unable to immediately find a way out.

03:23 pm Second Hand by Kita (R)
Fandom: ANGEL: THE SERIES
Pairing: Spike/Connor, mentions Spike/Buffy, Spike/Dru, and Spike/Angel
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kita0610
Author Website: Almighty Gah
Why this must be read:
This fic is about Connor, Spike, and grief. It's about what it's like to be the ones left behind. Shifting between events after AtS' "Not Fade Away" and BtVS' "The Gift", Kita ties them both together, and writes about the connection between fathers and sons and what it means to be a hero in the Jossverse so well that it'll leave you in tears.

06:33 pm Battlestar Galactica: An Overview
I'm your driver for this month's small fandom: Battlestar Galactica. Actually, we have a two-for-one deal this month. As you may be aware, there are two versions of Battlestar Galactica (the original series from 1978, and the new series which is currently screening), and so the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van mods very kindly let me convince them to pimp both fandoms at the same time.

The following manifesto gives a brief overview of the premise and main characters of both versions of BSG, but only contains spoilers for the initial movie (for BSG78) and mini-series (for BSG03). That's mainly because I'm a bit of a spoiler-phobe, and here in Australia we've barely seen any of the new BSG yet. However, I've linked to episode guides at the bottom of this page, so if you're less spoiler-phobic than I am you can get your fix there. I'll update this entry at the end of the month.

07:12 pm "The Melding Series" by Karo (NC-17)
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 1978
Pairing: Starbuck/Apollo
Author on LJ: None
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: I've chosen to begin with a story from Battlestar Galactica 1978, because Starbuck and Apollo are one of those classic slash pairings, like Kirk/Spock. They just fit together in the most delicious ways, especially when it's Karo who's fitting them together...

08:37 pm A Distinctly Different Manner of Finding Prince Charming, by Maya (G)
I’m back behind the wheel here at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van once again. This time, I’d like to take the time to apologize in advance for any repeated recs. I do check the memories section, but there are a *lot* of HP stories already rec’ed here, and I may inadvertently rec a story previously posted here.

Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: McGonagall/Flitwick
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mistful
Author’s Website: Lasair and Maya’s Fanfiction and Ramblings
Why this must be read:

The HP fandom can be an utter maze, overwhelming even to those who know the fandom. One of the good things that comes out of having a fandom so large is the wide variety of characters and pairings that HP authors are willing to explore.

Maya makes McGonagall/Flitwick perfectly believable and charming. There is a subtle humour evident throughout the story, and the courtship between them is a delight: “Set your sights on the prize and fairly, thoroughly, methodically proceed until you get what you want,” Minerva replied promptly. “I’m very goal-oriented.”

A delightful read, and well worth the time.

08:53 pm Woman Eater, by Switchknife (NC17)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Pansy Parkinson/Hermione Granger
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] switchknife
Author’s Website: weapon of choice
Why this must be read:

The NC17 rating for this story? Take is seriously, people. This story is dirty, and crude, and fucking *intense.* Long, edgy, Pansy/Hermione *smut,* and if Harry Potter femslash is your thing, you can’t miss this story.

Pansy Parkinson likes being in control. That's why she shoves Hermione Granger up against the toilet wall, sneering at Granger's wince of pain--at the inner shudder she senses under Granger's skin, the hatred for doing this here, doing this dirty, with the faint stench of urine around them and muddy scuff-marks on the tiles.

10:11 pm Hepatitis by Anne Carr (PG)
Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] gilda_elise and I'll be your Pros driver for the month. But Pros to me is B/D, so all stories will be centered on the Lads.

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: none
Why this must be read: I love when Bodie and Doyle's work and personal lives are so seamlessly blended that you can't tell if they're already lovers or not when the story begins. Almost everything they say to each other could be as friend to friend. Yet the affection and humor are always there as Doyle sees Bodie through his illness, so that when deeper feelings are expressed you're not really surprised. It's a short story, only ten pages, but just lovely.
