Fandom:DUE SOUTH
Pairing: None, Ray Kowalski gen fic

Author Website: Kat Allison
Why this must be read:

Well it seems like I’m going to be starting off another rec with a quote from the show:

Ray: Um..My dad slaved away at this uh meat-packing plant and....he wanted me to go, go to college, he said, y'know, he didn't want me to have the stink of dead animals all over me. And I dropped out, I uh, went off to the Academy. Day I graduated almost killed him.
-Easy Money

But there had to be more to the story than that, and of course Kat Allison gives us a brilliant version of it. This fic was originally written for the documents challenge at [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction. It’s really remarkably well- written, clever, and above all, gives us a perfect picture of Ray Kowalski circa 1979, as shown through his academic advising file. Can’t you just picture him, age 20, spiky, probably ADD by today’s standards, trying so hard to do what his parents want him to?

Asked him how orientation was going, said he'd skipped out on optional sessions. (Seemed rather pleased w/himself.) )

This is one of my favorite gen fics in this fandom. Kat does a brilliant job with showing us so much about Ray in the space of a few files.

06:00 am These Things Do Not Remember You by Gwyneth Rhys (NC17)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] gwyn_r
Author Website: http://www.drizzle.com/~gwyneth/index.html#pros
Why this must be read: I'm not usually big on deathfic but there are a handful I have to admit to being unable to stay away from. This story is at the top of that list. I don't think I've ever read a story quite so beautiful yet heartbreaking at the same time. The juxtaposition of Doyle's happy remembrances of Bodie against the grief that has left him disjointed and out-of-kilter is devastating. And it doesn't matter how many times I read the story, it leaves my emotions in tatters.

Odd little sidenote; I had already planned on reccing the story when someone asked about it on a group. Guess it was meant to be.

Pairing: Jack / Daniel

Why this must be read:

I had a craving for action/team fic a while back. This one came recommended and lived up to the rec. I love an ActionDaniel! an ArchaeologistDaniel! and a AngstDaniel! I got all three in one story. I was a happy camper.

Treasure hunt is a wonderful romp. Slash Jack/Daniel but it's like very mild and emotional. Read it for Indiana Jackson. : )

This one pushed all my buttons in a good way. Real good way.

Treasure Hunt

I'll be driving the van thru the Stargate this month. You can expect lots of Daniel : ArchaelogistDaniel!, ActionJackson!, GeekyDaniel!, EvilDaniel! - Gen, Het and Slash.

Please do tell the writer if you liked the story.

01:46 pm Purple by Dayspring (PG-13)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex, Lex/F (non-con, implied not shown)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ddayspring
Author Website: Dayspring's Desires

Why this must be read: Because when have you ever read a story that comes from Martha's POV that captures Clark and Lex's actions and emotions so richly that it breaks your heart?

"Purple" is just that kind of of story. Lex has been kidnapped and Clark is sick with worry and Martha is concerned about her son's own mental well-being. When Lex is returned, Clark insists Lex stay with the Kents at the farm and Martha begins to realize that her son's feelings for Lex are growing into more than friendship. As Lex begins to heal from his ordeal, Martha gently guides both 'boys' towards each other (not in a Mary Sue way), but in a motherly fashion without being pushy.

This is a deeply moving, original story that focuses on the Clark/Lex relationship from another character's point of view.

02:44 pm Cold Nights in the Yukon by Nel Ani (PG-13)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nel_ani
Author Website: Pertifity
Why this must be read:

As much as I love the long, plotty, you know, moving sort of F/K stories, I must admit that secretly my favorite kind of fic is something like this- light, fluffy, and freakin’ hilarious. And it's 3rd-Person POV, which is special kink of mine.

This is a dead!Bob fic. A fabulous dead!Bob fic. I heart dead!Bob. Really, who doesn’t love dead!Bob?

The situation is simple: Bob (or dead!Bob, if you prefer) finds his son in a rather…compromising position, so to speak. The voices are spot-on, the ending is just adorable; if that's not enough, this fic contains one of the most hilarious laugh-out-loud lines I’ve ever come across in this fandom. Hehehe.

Fandom: QUEER AS FOLK: UK
Pairing: Mention of Vince/Cameron; Stuart/Vince
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Sue Walsh's stories on Across the Pond

Why this must be read:
Stuart gets tired of Cameron's presence in Vince's life and takes action. Isn't that tantalizing enough? Well, if not, here's a quote to tempt you into reading. ) I adore the last two lines of the story; I heave a contented sigh every time I read them.
