Fandom: Lost Pairing: Jack/Boone and many, many others mentioned Author on LJ: yahtzee63Author Website: Yahtzee's FicWhy this must be read: There is just something so very, very right about Jack/Boone and this story perfectly explores how a relationship between the two of them might happen. It's not about a happily ever after type of love because they aren't living happily ever after types of lives, it's about, as the title says, people making do, and how making do can sometimes be a beautiful thing. It's also pretty damn hot. I just love the characterizations of both Jack and Boone in this story. Normally, I'm not the biggest fans of either of them, but I care about them in this story. I love their conversations and I want them to find a way to be happy. This story is also fabulous for its details. I love reading about the other relationships on the island and how all the other characters are finding their own way of 'making do.' It's really just an amazing story all around that made me smile the whole way through. Making Do

Fandom:CSI Pairing: Sara/Warrick Author LJ: helsinkibabyAuthor Website: http://helsinkibaby.ahkay.netWhy this must be read: I don't think I could really describe this to you all, I would try but it describes itself so much better. I love Warrick, one of my favorites and I really wish I could write him. Unfortunately, it just doesn't happen with me. helsinkibaby has Warrick in a way that I haven't really seen much in fandom. This fic talks of Warrick/Sara (my favorite little het ship that could) and does it well. Read it, I guarantee you will like it. This is also a part of a series that you should check out. Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski Author on LJ: estrella30Author Website: Estrella’s FanfictionWhy this must be read:Estrella is one of my all time favorite writers in this fandom. Why? She brings top-quality humor and smut to the party every time (and, fine, if you’re looking for something a little more substantial, her characterization is always superb). I chose one of her lighter pieces, Stop. Fast-forward. Rewind, because it still makes me (perverted 12-year-old that I am) smirk whenever I think about it. So go. Read. Admire the character voices. The great one-liners. The brilliant set up. The way Estrella captures a scene so perfectly you can hear it and see it and almost touch it. The hotness. And seriously, if that isn’t enough to sell you, I’ll let the author’s summary speak for itself: ”Somewhere in a small cabin in Canada, Ray and Fraser watch porn.”Heheheheh. Stop. Fast-forward. Rewind.

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 1978 Pairing: Starbuck/Apollo Author on LJ: None Author Website: Utterly DifferentWhy this must be read: Boxey plays matchmaker for his dad, with mixed, but highly amusing, results. Karen somehow manages to find something fresh, and quite adorable, to add to this well-used idea. The Adjective List, or The Courtship of Boxey's Father

Fandom: The O.C. Pairing: Seth/OC Seth/Ryan Author on LJ: bluesmokeAuthor website: none listed Why this must be read: There are times when I love a good honest angst-fest and this fic is one of the better ones. Here Seth isn't innocent or happy, he is the only child being replaced by the golden child. ( excerpt )Interludes

Fandom: Farscape Pairing: n/a Author on LJ: sunshinercjWhy this must be read:Sunshiner is one of those authors who might not have quantity, but she sure has quality. This piece is one of her finest. One of the most underused Bad Guys in all of scifi are the point in this fic. That's right, the Nebari. The fic takes place sometime later and John has been beaten down by the life he's led. He's tired and worn out but can't see doing anything else. There is war, there is love, there is fighting and there is the end that will make you go back and re-read the whole thing. The betaing of this story produced one of my favorite quotes: "That story was smarter than me." It's a tangled fic of ideas and thoughts, yet, once you get it, it all makes sense. I've read this many times and I still find something new. ( Excerpt )Go read and don't forget to feed the author. Chess for Losers: Part OneChess for Losers: Part Two

Fandom: QUEER AS FOLK: UK Pairing: Vince/Aaron (OMC); Stuart/Malcolm (OMC) Author on LJ: almostnever; fic journal: almoststoriesAuthor Website: Cesare's CabinetWhy this must be read:This pair of stories is a take on what might have happened if Stuart left and Vince didn't go with him. "Ever After" made me feel wistful, but it's well-written and I smiled fondly at this new and improved Vince. I don't agree with Cesare that Vince didn't know Stuart (I think he knew him very well), but otherwise the detail in this story is delightful. If Vince's story is one to amuse, it's not a surprise that Stuart's journey is fraught with the uglier side of life. "Ever After" is a comforting, life-affirming story, but the companion piece, "Happy," is all about hard-won, painful maturity. (Wouldn't Stuart Alan Jones just have to do things the hard way?) I had an entirely different reaction to "Happy"--this story has all the acid bite that a Stuart POV story should have, and it also has some painful insight to Stuart's personality. A large part of me can believe the AU scenario laid out in this pair of stories, however unwilling I am to admit it. So I can't say I love these, but I do think every QaFUK fan and writer absolutely should read them. Ever AfterHappy
