Title: Vengeance For LilahFandom: The Magnificent Seven Pairing: Not really. Ezra/other UST implied Author On LJ: I don't believe so Author Website: Fic hosted at BlackraptorWhy This Must Be Read:It's long known that each and every member of the Seven has a soft spot for children. But none of them so much as Ezra Standish. It's Ezra who repeatedly befriends the children who appear in the episodes. Ezra who enlists the Seminole children in the pilot to help with the defense, Ezra who plays cards with young Olivia while they guard her for her mother...Ezra who can get them to light up and smile like they haven't a care in the world. Thus, it's this story that hits like a ton of bricks. It involves the kidnapping of young children, particularly one close to Ezra. The themes are that which aren't much different than a Without a Trace episode but nevertheless, set in the time it is, (this is very much an Old West story) it hits harder... The whole thing will leave you going "oh, poor Ezra..." Vengeance For Lilah

Vidder: Killa Musical artist: Oysterband Pairing: Stuart/Vince Vidder on LJ: killabeezVidder's website: Not sure I can link that, so I won't Why this vid kicks ass:When it came time to select a vid to rec for this fandom, I only knew of one (feel free to correct my ignorance). But it's such a fantastic vid that I know you'll all love it/love seeing it again. Killa asks, "When will Vince realize that what he wants has always been his?" Her vid, dedicated to Cesca, shows us Vince's emotional journey in the series. This is the perfect song for Stuart and Vince throughout the series--"living for the moment, but the moment never comes". Ouch! That's so on target it hurts. And the visuals! If I didn't already adore this fandom, the overwhelming prettiness of Killa's vid alone would convert me. The song lyrics fit the the relationships in Queer as Folk, and "All that hunger, love and anger bottled up in eyes of blue"--that line kills me DED. Killa did a fabulous job of fitting the scenes to the song, and you see Hazel and Nathan's place in Vince's life, as well as how central Stuart is to Vince. Fandom: QUEER AS FOLK: UK Pairing: Nathan/Vince Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: Cipher Muse's stories on Across the PondWhy this must be read:And now for something completely different... Nathan has a number of fans out there, so I thought I would rec a few Nathan-centric stories for a change of pace. (Stuart/Vince is my all-time OTP, so take these recs with that in mind.) Bang

Fandom: ANGEL: THE SERIES Pairing: Gunn/Faith Author on LJ: yahtzee63Author Website: Yahtzee's FicWhy this must be read:This is one of my favorite fics in fandom. Yahtzee has an excellent Gunn voice and a great grasp of both his and Faith's characters. The dialog is natural, the setting, while it does alter both the season 3 finale for Angel and the season 6 finale for Buffy, is completely believable; and the pacing, the tension keeps you interested throughout the entire fic. It's different from a lot of the fics out there, but it works. The Uninvited Guest

Subject Line: VID REC: Fandom - Song Title Vidder:Neko Musical artist:Hawksley Workmen Pairing:Nick/Greg Vidder on LJ: nekosmuseVidder's website:nekosmuse.com Why this vid kicks ass: Let us start with the song. Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Clark/Lex Author on LJ: serafina20Author Website: Piek RicWhy this must be read: because it is 'Captain Lex' and 'cabin boy Clark' on the high seas. Think bodice ripper, historical romance with Lex as a pirate and Clark being captured booty. This story has hot men, lusty pirates, what's not to love? Of course, the image of 'Pirate Lex' should only make you want to read it more, not less. Written for Nerodi's Historical Fiction Challenge, despite being an A/U, Lex and Clark are perfectly in character. This story is wonderful, it pushes all my buttons with Clark first as Lex's captive, their journey to trusting each other to them overcoming the villain (a familiar face -- and no, his name isn't Lionel *g*) to them being together as equals. I truly love this story and recommend it if you are looking for an A/U that is different from the norm. Pirate

Vidder: Nel Musical Artist: Frou Frou Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay Vidder on LJ: nel_aniVidder's Website: PertifityWhy this vid kicks ass:This was one of the first Atlantis songvids, and while there have been storming ones made so far, this was the first I watched and this one will always hold a fond place in my affections. And since I only get one rec, this is the one it is. In terms of the vid itself, the pacing is good, the images well selected and the song - Holding Out for a Hero by Frou Frou - is just perfect for McKay. Holding Out for a Hero

Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis Pairing: some hints of John Sheppard/Rodney McKay pre-slash Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: Fic by KoschkaWhy this must be read:Koschka doesn't write Sheppard and McKay exactly the way that I see them, but she has an enjoyable take on them anyway. In her stories, they're complicated and competent, and their relationship is one of mutual respect and snark with underlying affection. ( A sample )This story is part of a series, most of which passes as gen although one of them has hints of pre-slash, and it's all worth reading and is all linked on Koschka's page. However, this story is probably my favourite of them: Geek Protocol

Vidder: Lithiumdoll Musical artist: Allan Sherman Pairing: None Vidder on LJ: lithium_dollVidder's website: Alter IdemWhy this vid kicks ass: The devil might have made her do it, but this is one of the funniest things ever. And very, very appropriate since Lost really does sometimes seem like an overnight camp for the severely disturbed. I really don't know that much about vidding, so all I can say is that this made me giggle a lot and is brilliant. Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh(you will need to request a password for access)
