Fandom: HARRY POTTER

Why this must be read:

Post OOTP. Sixth year ensemble story with a focus on the Harry/Draco I hate you, I want you mating dance. It's an interesting view of the "the houses must cooperate and mix if the light is to win" riff introduced in the last book by the Sorting Hat.

Angst, plot, drama, snark. Harry and Draco are not that much OOC which is refreshing. A few interesting pairings (het and slash) outside of Harry/Draco make this an interesting ensemble cast story.

Warning behind a cut because it's a spoiler for the story, those who don't like to be spoil can avoid it )

03:30 pm Slow Ride by Without Me (PGish)
Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: AJ McLean / Nick Carter
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] without_me
Author Website: Kitten Fic
Why this must be read:

So some nice people organized a challenge that went live on Never Gone's release date called The BSB Challenge 2005. To make sure everyone knew about this new trove of stories, I wanted to include one of them here. This story takes place on the bus after one of their club dates during their spring mini-tour. The author investigates the unstated premise that the first time AJ went back on tour after rehab had different decisions then this time and his relationship with Nick in particular has changed but how much is still being negotiated. I love how AJ hits that balance of considering every new-old situation in light of his 2 1/2 years worth of sobriety, but now not being tortured or panicked over every reminder of his past.

As far back as he can remember, Nick's been... well. Easy, usually in every sense of the word.  )

*If people are paying attention, I am thanked for providing the title. I answered a poll about possible bus story names. Moral of this footnote? Answering silly polls on your friendslist can reap lasting impact!

08:29 pm Fic: Sawyer's Book Club, by Megan Reilly (R)
Fandom: Lost
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eponine119
Author Website: A Concern For Dark Corners
Why this must be read: Sawyer's attempts to avoid any sort of work on the island usually involved him lying back on the beach and enjoying one of the few books left behind after the crash. Many a fic writer has used his reputation as the island bookworm to great effect, but this is a particularly wonderful example, in which Sawyer lets Hurley borrow some reading material he's stashed away (after some prodding, of course) and ends up opening the island lending library. The story itself displays an amusing relationship between Hurley and Sawyer, and the ending will almost break your heart.

Why this must be read:

Another kissing snipped. Nestra and Shrift do things at the same time often, and the results are explosively good. In that happy warm feeling sort of way. An impulsive and possibly monumentally stupid gesture, yep, that's his signature move.
