Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Dom/Elijah Author on LJ: randominityAuthor Website: Unknown Why this must be read: Well, I'm finally breaking out of the Orli-centric trend with, of all things, a Domlijah MPreg. No, hang on! Come back! This fic toys with the genre's expectations by making Dom the baby!momma and Elijah the proud, chain-smoking daddy. Because it doesn't take itself too seriously, the story becomes less about the actual pregnancy and more about the relationship between Dom and Elijah. It's amazingly funny and thoughtful, plus it's got hawt non-slash-slash. "Why, I was just telling Elijah how I'm sure the radiant glow of motherhood has made you more ravishing than ever," Billy says, his voice suddenly nothing but sweetness and light.
"Very kind of you, Bill," Dom says brusquely, "but I'm nobody's mother."
"Oh, Dom," Billy sighs, "did you tell your uterus that?"Part OnePart TwoPart Three

Fandom: The WEST WING Pairing: Sam/Will, Sam/Josh Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Author Website: http://www.livejournal.com/community/minaudiere/Why this must be read: This is the kind of fic that you just love finding after a hard day. It's short, well written, and a very touching take on the popular Josh/Sam pairing. Besides, who can resist Will? Enjoy. The Games We Play Sorry for being late, I've been having connection issues.

Fandom: STAR WARS Pairing: Gen Author on LJ: kattahjAuthor website: http://www.geocities.com/katta_hjWhy this must be read:Because Yoda really should have met Han Solo, if only to tell him he talks funny. This short piece set on Kashyyk during RotS shows that Han got off to a less than legal start early. It's a quiet, hush before the storm moment, without the impending doom of most fics set in this time. Read this for a curious Yoda and an exasperated Chewbacca interrupting Han's attempt to take Yoda's ship apart. ( Excerpt )Not nailed down

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: Duncan/Methos, Duncan/Sebastian (Original male character) Author on LJ: elistaireAuthor Website: TatervilleWhy this must be read: One of the many wonderful things about Highlander is the fact that the Immortal characters have a huge amount of backstory, much of which isn't filled in by canon, and this gives fic writers a large and fertile field to play in. Tray has pulled in elements of gothic horror tales, whodunnits and folk tales to create a gorgeously well-written and believable story about a time and a love in Duncan's past. The world she writes about feels absolutely authentic and Duncan is completely in character. The original characters feel real and well-rounded, not a Sue in sight, just real and very satisfying. Do yourself a favour.... Turnip Bones, The Legend of Whisper Hollow

Fandom: STAR TREK ENTERPRISE Pairing: none Author on LJ: kayjayuuAuthor Website: Brain DumpWhy this must be read:This story, by one of the best Archer writers, perfectly captures the sense of the early explorers, the feeling of truly going where no one had ever gone. Hard

Fandom: HORATIO HORNBLOWER Pairing: Archie Kennedy/William Bush Author on LJ: dsudis Author Website:Words Words Words Why this must be read:
The final three Horatio Hornblower recs for the month of June deal with the deaths of major characters. Two are set in the A&E movieverse adaptations and one is set in book canon. All three are missing scenes.
This fic falls in the DKU category (Dead Kennedy Universe) and it is the one and only Hornblower fic from this writer. She should only write more. A poignant missing scene from the A&E adaptation of the Lt. Hornblower novel as Lt. Kennedy prepares himself to give evidence at the court martial of Horatio Hornblower.
To say more would be to spoil.

Fandom: DC COMICS Pairing: Jason/Bruce Author on LJ: monkeycrackmaryAuthor Website: Ink StigmataWhy this must be read:We love Mary's obsession with dead Robins, oh yes we do. Because that obsession gives us wonderful stories like this one, among others. I had a really hard time choosing which of Mary's stories to rec, but I finally decided on this one, because this story sums up what I love about Jason, and what I love about Bruce/Jason, better than anything else I've read. Canon never gave us very good material when it came to Jason. His time as Robin was rushed and not very well-written, and they killed him off before things could get interesting. I much prefer Mary's version of how things went and who Jason was. She fleshes out Jason, gives us all the details of who he is and who he is to Bruce. I love this Jason so much, and it feels so *right* that he is Robin, that he should fight next to Batman. The story is bittersweet if you know what's inevitably coming for the characters, but it still leaves me feeling happy every time I read it. ( excerpt )Suspension

Fandom: DC COMICS Pairing: Bruce/Jason Author on LJ: 3janeAuthor Website: JaneficWhy this must be read: I wasn't planning on reccing this, as I just finished reading it two minutes ago (and I have *no idea* how I missed reading it when it first came out), but. This is a much, much darker look at Jason and at Bruce/Jason than my previous rec. This fic is vaguely AU, and Jason doesn't *quite* die in this universe. Jane never explicitly says what happens to keep Jason alive, but that's not important. What's important is Jason, four years later, coming home. He's been in Arkham Asylum, he's been on the streets of Gotham, and he is a *very* different person. *This* is a Jason I could actually see becoming the villain Jason currently is in comics canon. I loved the meta-commentary in this fic, which is kind of hard to 'get' if you're not familiar with Batman comics, but is still delicious. ( excerpt )Flicker

Fandom: BLAKE'S 7 Pairing: none (might be Avon/Blake if you squint) Author on LJ: hafrenAuthor Website: Hafren's Gloomy Patch of the ForestWhy this must be read: I've always had a problem with the fourth series. In a nutshell, I don't like it. I remember all too well the bitter disappointment every week as each new episode aired and this thing masquerading as Blake's Seven occupied my life for fifty minutes and let me down again. At the same time, without the fourth series, we wouldn't have 'Blake', and Blake's Seven without that episode is greatly diminished. In this short, sweet and beautifully written one-shot, hafren wipes away all the tears and all the pain. This is a magical piece of writing, as simple and lovely as a child's fairy story. If you haven't read it, go and do so now - but be warned, however, that it contains fairly massive spoilers for the end of the fourth series... Wishing makes It So

Fandom: Starsky and Hutch Pairing: Starsky and Hutch Author on LJ: Not known Author on the web: http://meandthee.shahrazad.net/author.php?authorid=11
Why this must be read:
This was the first slash fic that I read and I saw it in a zine that a friend of mine brough back from SHarecon. I was never really into S&H slash but on Halloween I decided to sit down and read one and this one was perfect because it's not heavily slashy and it has come cute, sweet moments and some saucy day dreaming. If it wasn't for this I wouldn't have got into slash. Plus it's a great one to read if you like stories where one has to search for the other one.
