12:39 am The Vivian Johnstone Higginsbottom Affair by RAC (R)
Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Solo/Kuryakin
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Rari's List

Napoleon is engaged to be married to Vivian, who used to date Mark Slate. She wants her wedding dress to be a Vanya original but Vanya is refusing to comply.

Mark is still in love with Vivian. She is probably still in love with Mark, and Solo’s realized that he's not in love with Vivian. Now Napoleon spends his nights sitting in the dark, drinking and listening to jazz records, telling Vivian that he is putting old ghosts to rest.

Vivian can sense that Solo is yearning for someone from his past and she is determined to find out who it was, even though Napoleon isn't revealing anything. And she's going to find it out by asking Illya, no matter how many times the Russian refuses to talk to her. After all, she's a Johnstone Higginsbottom. No one hangs up on a Johnstone Higginsbottom. Well, no one except for Kuryakin.

07:39 am Form 1879 by Barb G (R)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser / Ray Kowalski
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] troutkitty
Author Website: Barb G's Multi-FanPlex
Why this must be read:

Fraser has the luck of the habitually drunk when it comes to jumping off buildings and facing down criminals with no weapon. Fraser's luck has sometimes run out on the show, but usually when he is flying solo. Not this time. A cute, funny short story with a real kick at the end (I would give warnings, but it would reveal the ending. Just keep in mind that it could warrant warnings). Ray and Fraser are called onto the carpet to be interviewed about and justify a case gone wrong.
ETA I should never try to get a rec out before heading to work. Forgot to say that this is probably my favorite short piece of due South fiction so far because I like how Fraser and Kowalski snark at each other and how you don't understand fully what is going on until the very end because you are limited by Kowalski's POV.

It was a judgement call, Ray. )

Why this must be read:

This isn't slash or particularly graphic (I told you I'd mix it up). It's short, though powerful, and violently romantic. Very lovely images.

Title: The Good Kid
Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS
Pairing: Ford/OC

Author Website: ambivalentpleasures
Why this must be read:

I love a good original character. They're rare as jewels so when you find one it deserves to be recced up the wazoo. This is one of those. It's a story with an endearing, charming and normal original character and an even better characterization of Ford. The guy who definitely got the short end of the stick story wise. (from a whole lot of people really) It gets him out of his teammates shadows, shows us a bit of the offduty life of the Atlantis expedition, further members of said expedition and...it's just a really great read.

If only for the fish.

I have a gossip!kink.

Fandom: BattleStar Galactica 2003
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Author: [livejournal.com profile] leda13
Author's Website: n/a
Why this must be read: Leda creates a plausible resolution to the Kara-calling-out-Lee's-name thing. She takes a cliche and turns it into something fun and realistic.

An excerpt:
"Well, there's not many as compare to the Captain," the other smirked, and the technician giggled. "Of course, I did wonder why Apollo left the party on Cloud Nine so early... he'd been dancing with Starbuck for a while, and then just disappeared."

"You don't think she turned him down for Baltar?" The shock in the younger woman's voice sets Gaius' teeth on edge; their eavesdropper knows all too well that the substitution was in no way as flattering as the words might suggest.

Overheard.
