02:13 pm The Rest is Silence by Merrin (PG)
Fandom: THE LORD OF THE RINGS
Pairing: Two original characters
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] walkawayslowly
Author Webiste: Happier Endings

Why this must be read: Because you're already looking at me strangely for reccing a story without any of the main characters of Lord of the Rings playing a huge role. The premise is simple: who are the poor souls who had to sit in the mountains for days and months just in case Gondor ever chose to light the beacons?

This is the tale of Deragar and Bremand, two men charged with keeping that watch. Beautifully written, it casts the familiar story of the Lord of the Rings through a new prism--how people not involved in the highest echelons of power see the war.

You'll love it. Trust me.

03:20 pm That Which Remains by Elistaire (PG-13)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Duncan/Methos
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] elistaire
Author Website: Taterville
Why this must be read:

The no-fighting-on-Holy-Ground rule is one of the universal constants in the Highlander universe. The reasons behind it, however, were never truly explained. This story gives one of the best explanations I’ve read so far, while managing to give us a wonderful story of loss, grief and love.

Warning: Character death fic.

03:46 pm Legend by Marcus Rowland (G)
Fandom: BUFFY
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ffutures
Author Website: Forgotten Futures
Why this must be read:

An outside POV of the worlds we know is always an interesting ride: in this story, the author takes that premise and runs with it.

As time passes and the world changes, what do people really know about what went down in Sunnydale? Watch as the years go by and the memories shift, facts are replaced with fiction and perspectives are altered up to a point you will not believe.

05:55 pm Do Over by Carolyn Claire (R)
Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS
Pairing: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] carolyn_claire
Author Website: Icing on the Cake
Why this must be read:

Written for the enclosed spaces challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic, this is a romp. It's funny and heartfelt, yet has a thread of seriousness given the situation -- Sheppard being shot -- that walks a fine line of angst that ends up adding a piquancy to the story without being overpowering.

09:49 pm For Love of the Game by Macha (no rating)
Fandom: THE WEST WING
Pairing: none, General CJ fic
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thestickywicket
Author Website: Macha's Fanfic
Why this must be read:

Set during Jed Bartlet's first presidential campaign, CJ starts to make the transition from state to national politics when a question regarding sports initially throws her for a loop. It's a perfect CJ character, smart and desperately trying to prove herself to the boys. It's a great fic to read and there is a mention of that other wonderful Aaron Sorkin show in passing. Not to mention, it's always fun to watch CJ at work and kicking ass in the end.

11:17 pm My First Stargate Story by Halrloprillalar (PG-13)
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: Jack/Daniel
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] prillalar
Author Website: Halrloprillalar's Fan Fiction
Why this must be read:

It's important for fandom to be able to laugh at itself (some fandoms more than others...), and if you can't laugh at this piece you're just not having enough fun with this whole fanfic thing. An utterly hilarious parody that takes a plethora of fanfic clichés and makes them even funnier. I'm honestly not sure I can summarise much beyond that!
