12:27 am Trinity by Mirabella (PG-13)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Harry/Draco but a Hermione characterization more than anything
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mirasfics
Author Website: http://www.houseofhobbits.com
Why this must be read:

Hermione hates the color red and a certain boy by the name of Ron Weasley for his part Ron hates her back just as much. It's not the hate of friends who have had a spat but the bone deep hate of enemies. Why do they hide it? Read to find out. Great story and a Hermione voice that rings so true and rings with a rancor we never see in canon but fits her like an old cloak.

11:30 am Price of Wisdom by Mad Poetess & James Walkswithwind (NC-17)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Percy/Lucius, hints of Percy/Bill at the end

Author Website: Forged In Ink & Gila's Cave
Why this must be read:
WARNING: Includes BDSM situations
Percy has a secret (a hot dirty secret) but when helping one of the brothers who has always made fun of him means having to reveal that secret what will he do? This story aside from being by one of my favorite authors has such a great Percy characterization that it's hard to even do it justice. This Percy is shy and unassuming until you get him to his second job at a Muggle sex club. Also his coworker and friend Livi is one of the funniest Original Character I have ever seen in fandom. Wanna read all the hotness then go now:

12:16 pm To The End Of The Road by Clotho (PG)
Fandom: HORNBLOWER
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] clotho123
Author Website: Clotho's Fanfic Page
Why this must be read: Because it's a twist on one of the standard setups of the fandom. If you spend any time in Hornblower movieverse fandom, you'll find dozens of fics "fixing" the end of the movie "Retribution." Most of them tend to follow a fairly common scenario; many of them are wonderful; a number of them have been rec'd here before. "To The End Of The Road" is different, and that's always fun to find.

Clotho presents the Hornblower-Kennedy friendship very much as it appears on-screen: intense and deeply rooted, and leaving it up to the observer to decide if there's slash there or not. I particularly love this Archie Kennedy: strong and stubborn and not overly burdened with blind devotion to the rules.

01:00 pm You've Got Male by themoononastick (PG)
Fandom: LOST
Pairing: implied Charlie/Hurley...but not really
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] themoononastick
Author's Website: Other than livejournal, unknown

Why this must be read: Some of my favorite fics in the Lost fandom have come out of challenges where people swap plot lines. This is one of those fics. It was written as a result of [livejournal.com profile] halfdutch's Hidden Connections ficathon which challenged writers to connect characters before they boarded that fateful Oceanic flight. This fic is pure humor and introduces us to a whole new side of Charlie and Hurley and their life before the island. It's one of those stories that made me laugh out loud when I read it. Oh, and keep your eye out for a couple of other Lost characters who appear briefly in the fic.

Hey this is [livejournal.com profile] hermitsoul and I will be driving QaF this month!  (Snags the keys to Brian's corvette)  What are you gong to see this month?  Well, a little of everything, including a wide range of ships.  The stories I rec probably won't be technically perfect, and they might not all be your cup of tea, but they all have one thing in common; they made me feel something.  I laughed, I cried, I worried - I got caught up in the author's vision of the characters.  I hope this month you find some that do the same for you.  But anyway, on to the recs.

Why this must be read:

This is a slice of life fic, and it gives us a glimpse into everyday life at the loft.  It is sweet without being sappy, plus we get to see some insights into their relationship. Brian, Justin, and a box of Crayola crayons.   Need I say more?

Hi, y'all -- I'm Élizabeth, and I'll be your LOTRIPS reccer for October 2005. It will become obvious pretty quickly that I have an OTP in this fandom, but I promise that there will be as much variation as I can provide.

Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Orlando Bloom/Viggo Mortensen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jasmineskie
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

This is, bar none, my favourite fic in this fandom (by my favourite author, with my favourite pairing, but no matter). It has wonderful characterisation, a distinct voice, and by the end you're not sure whether to cry or float off into the ether with happiness. This is what love is like: fragile and beautiful and worth it, oh god, so worth it.

I know Jassy, like all authors, dearly loves feedback; be nice to those wonderful people who give us our drug of choice!

Hi, I'm Chris and I'll be the driver of the Crack Spaceship this month. It's my first time, so be gentle. *grins*

Fandom: STAR TREK
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cimness
Author Website: Cimorene's Sordid Fancy
Why this must be read:
Is it bad that I signed up just to rec this fic? Well, it's a good sign for the fic, anyway. All of cim's stories are beautiful, but I have a weak spot for this one, set between TMP and WoK. Jim has been promoted to Admiral, working as lecturer at Starfleet Academy, and he "adopts" a young student to organize his papers and find restaurants with edible vegetarian food - a young cadet who has several similar traits as Spock -. It sounds like it should be a Jim/OC, but it doesn't even come close to that. Instead it's a funny and sweet story about not noticing the obvious.

cim's language usuage and sense of humour both make for a very good read, and her characterization are particularly spot-on in this, so go! Read!

07:04 pm Rumble, Young Man by Karabair (PG-13)
Hello all :) I'm Mandy, and I'm happy to be recommending "Angel" fics this month. Stories I read and enjoy tend to involve Wesley, 'shipped with any number of people. They also tend to be angsty...but not this one! Before we delve into the sad stuff, I thought I'd offer up my favorite Happy! Wes story.

Fandom: Angel
Pairing: Wes/Gunn friendship
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] karabair
Author Website: Nothing I could find
Why this must be read: Because it's one of the few happy "Angel" fics out there. And not only is it happy - it's funny. Also, and probably more importantly, because Wesley and Gunn are written perfectly - this story captures their pre-Fred dynamic better than anything else I've read. Their dialogue could've been lifted straight out of the show. This is a great "missing moment" fic.

09:00 pm In Check by K'Sal (NC-17)
Fandom: STAR TREK: TOS
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Author on LJ: I don't think she's on LJ
Author Website: Intuition/Calculation
Why this must be read:
Because it's funny as hell, it's hot and it has banter. It's one of the best done "bond" fics I've read. It has Kirk besting Spock in an arguement while keeping both characters in-character. It's incredibly well written and manages to be funny without being silly.

10:58 pm Alone and Silent by Kate Orman (G)

Fandom: BLAKE'S 7
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: none, but she has two stories on Penny Dreadful's site
Why this must be read:

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] vilakins, your B7 driver for October.

This story is one of the first I found when I discovered B7 fiction on the web. It's a tight, tense little tale of near-death avoided only by the faithful determination of a friend.

Vila's cleverness lands him in an undercover assignment in an asteroid mining company, where an accident sends him to a slow and lonely death in space.

Once upon a time, clocks ticked. Vila Restal had even seen a real ticking clock, its casing transparent to show off the complex works inside. Gears of metal interlocking and turning. Counting out the seconds.
The suit's wrist chronometer had been shattered in the explosion, along with its radio. The only clock Vila had now was his own heartbeat, counting out the seconds until the suit ran out of air.
However another member of the crew refuses to leave him there. There are flashbacks to his assignment as Vila spins helplessly in vacuum and it's good to see him using talents and skills other than lock-picking. Here, Vila is clever, capable--and valued; Cally will not give up.
Vila. I know you're there.

The voice was suddenly much more than a voice. It was such a strong sense of her presence that she might have been touching him, breathing the same thin air that he was breathing. For a moment there were no stars, there was no Vila, there was only Cally.

I know you're still alive, Vila. I can sense you. We must be close by. You must hang on, Vila.

He was drowning in the voice. Or perhaps he was just drowning, breathing his own carbon dioxide as his skin turned blue and his fingers tingled and his field of vision began to melt into blackness.

NO! Don't you dare!

The voice gripped him, forced him to breathe, breathe, breathe. Forced him awake, tiny droplets of cold sweat randomly patterned across his forehead.

Don't you dare die, Vila, not when we're this close.
It looks like a happy ending, but there's a little sting in the tail.

11:07 pm Cyanotype by Blythely and Sparcck, NC-17
Fandom: DC COMICS UNIVERSE: LEGION OF SUPERHEROES
Pairing: Lyle Norg (Invisible Kid)/Querl Dox (Brainiac 5)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] blythely and [livejournal.com profile] sparcck
Author WebsiteL http://www.blythely.net
Why this must be read:

This fic, while admittedly in an area of the DCU universe that didn't get covered by [livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee's nearly-comprehensive rundown, is too brilliant to not rec right off the bat. (My name is Propaganda, usually just known as Prop, and I'm driving the DCU van for the month of October. Sorry for the late start -- in between shenanigans and the Flu From The Pit Of Doom, it took me way too long to remember that I was supposed to do this. I'm a slash reader and writer, though I love and treasure a good gen story and tend to fall madly in love with the few het stories that do it for me.)

Cyanotype is a kind of fic that is shockingly rare for a fandom that is all about the marriage between graphics and text: an interactive, multimedia-based story. Blythe and Sparcck use amazing photoshop skills and even more amazing writing skills to blend the two elements of storytelling into a beautiful, stunning, and just plain hot fic about these two. It is a must-read for the Legion of Superheroes subset of fandom and still an exciting story even for someone whose closest association with the DCU is that Superman wears his undies on the outside.
