But this fic takes a more realistic view, in a universe where Keller retains his flaws, despite being 'domisticated'. She writes great angst, and great smut, but when she puts her funny hat on - watch out! This fic is a three-parter that explores the friendship of all the boys on the island with lots of humor, some hot sex, and a tad of angst thrown in. The characters are spot on. Everybody knows that Jack's, well, intense is an understatment. Sometimes all that intensity can be too much to take, and here's the result. ( “Well, if you want somebody to hit him with a rock or somethin’ I’ll do it. He’s really startin’ to bug me,” Hurley muttered, eyes narrowed and mouth twisted as he glared at Jack’s back and Sawyer snorted in amusement. “If he yells at me about that damned manifest one more time . . .” )Read BOOM! As the title implies, both men have their demons though neither is a thoughtless jerk, a situation I heartily dislike in a story. No matter what they may have done to one another, that they love each other is never in doubt...at least, not to the reader. Napoleon, especially, shines as he suffers for a wrong he can't seem to set right. I think my only complaint is that the story ended too soon for me. I will neither confirm nor deny that a small victory dance was done upon discovering that I got to rec it. In all seriousness, this is simply a gorgeous piece of writing, with lovely, subtle characterization. Horatio cuts himself to pieces, in that way that he has, and looks at Archie as the only good, solid thing in his world. And as they're written here, you absolutely believe that.
