As some of you have sussed out, it being the 15th of the month means today is Crack Van Collisions, a.k.a. cross-over day. Because of the late notice, feel free to rec your crossover tomorrow. Drivers, you may rec one fic that crosses over your fandom with another (no, this does not count against your maximum). Please post crossovers in the following format: Subject: Fandom/Fandom (Rating) Title: Title by Author Pairing: (no abbreviations, please) Author on LJ:Author Website:Why this must be read:(link to story) Thanks, all!

Fandom: STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE Pairing: Martok/Sirella Author on LJ: miggyAuthor Website: Not that I'm aware of Why this must be read: Juxtaposing the different values of the Ferengi & the Klingons has made for some of the most memorable & funny episodes of the series. In this short humour piece, Quark is being sued by Martok's wife, Sirella, over one of his more tasteless enterprises. Comedy is so hard to write well (as the DS9 writers have proved more than once), but I think Miggy really pulls this one off. I'd love to have seen this as the B-plot to an episode. Title: Slave to Time by Crankygrrl Pairing: John Crichton, Kara Thrace Author on LJ: crankygrrlAuthor Website: N/A Why this must be read: BSG and Farscape fans alike know one simple fact: It's all about the banter. Banter keeps us sane, makes us giggle amidst the angst and woe, helps us keep hope that maybe everyone will end up with some sort of a semblance of a happy ending, after all - Cylons and Scarrans and traitors, so what? In this fic, written for Multiverse 2005, crankygrrl brings us an older, wiser-but-still-a-smartass John Crichton, who more than meets his match in the irrepressible Starbuck. This ain't your childhood damsel-in-distress fairy tale... there's a clever nod to the BBC's 2005 Doctor Who, and ultimately, you've just got to love a fic where the disgruntled 'hero' grouses, "Y'know, Princess Leia never gave Luke Skywalker this much trouble." Go, read, enjoy - and leave the author some holiday cheer. :) Slave to Time

Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT Pairing: Casey/Dan Author on LJ: laylee Author Website: N/A Why this must be read: laylee is one of the great unsung talents of Sports Night fandom; for the past couple of years she's been consistently turning out fic that's as good as anything else in the genre and better than most, and yet somehow her name seldom, if ever, appears on rec sites. Which only goes to prove, if there were any doubt, that life just ain't fair. Evening the Keel was first posted on the old Yahoo Sports Night board in 2003, before laylee had an LJ; I've been nagging at her for some time to re-post it where other people can see it, and a week or so ago she did just that. This was her first long Sports Night fic, and follows Danny and Casey out of Anthony's at the end of La Forza del Destino. Danny is a Rebecca-induced wreck; Casey, in spite of his own anxieties, is there for Dan to lean on. It's sweet, without being mushy ( laylee did edit out what she referred to as 'a lot of schmoop' when she re-edited it for LJ, but in my opinion it was fine to begin with), a warm, affectionate portrait of the boys in harmony, and should be required reading for every Sports Night [slash] fan. Fandom: LORD OF THE RINGS Pairing: None Author on LJ: Not as far as I know Author Website: Not as far as I know Why this must be read:First there's the mystery of what happened to Elrohir and then there's the angst of recovery. On the surface the plot looks to be the same as Jay's The Search but the two are completely different. In this one, the mystery is mostly after Elrohir is found. There are a few odd canon hiccups in it, especially at the beginning but they can be forgiven given the quality of the writing. Each chapter is long enough to suck you in so it's impossible to stop reading. There is really nothing to criticise about the writing - the POV always seems to naturally be the right one, the changing relationships between the characters are well done and the angst is so beautifully written. Title: A Taste of the Cask by Tray Pairing: Duncan/Blair, Duncan/Methos implied Author on LJ: elistaireAuthor Website:TatervilleWhy this must be read: Tray starts with an interesting premise, What if Duncan met a former student, Blair Sandburg, while waiting to stage an accidental death and join up with Methos. Although I've never seen The Sentinel (although it's my favorite show to read Highlander cross-overs), the portrayals of Duncan, Blair and Jim are characters that you care about. Her use of language and multiple point of view enhance the story. Finally, the story comes to a satisfying conclusion. A Taste of the Cask

Title: Untitled by Coreopsis Pairing: John Sheppard/Nick Carter, other pairings Author on LJ: coreopsisAuthor Website: Merry Go RoundWhy this must be read: This story was written for me, so I'm hardly unbiased. You're probably looking at the fandoms and pairing, and backing away slowly, but it's so much fun, a romp that can be enjoyed by fans of either or both fandoms. Plus, from a shallow point of view, Nick and Sheppard is a whole lot of pretty in one pairing. Also, it has Siler from Stargate, and this is never a bad thing. During his month of leave on Earth, John Sheppard did many interesting things, not the least of which was discovering that pop singers gave amazing blowjobs.
He also discovered that the SGC could do pretty much anything, so when he casually mentioned to Sergeant Harriman that he sure would like to go to that upcoming Backstreet Boys concert, he was surprised to have an envelope containing two tickets and backstage passes in his hand the very next day. He had no idea what to do with the second ticket because he didn't have many friends in Colorado Springs and this was kind of his guilty secret that he wasn't sure he wanted to share with either Rodney or Elizabeth.
Harriman must have read his expression fairly accurately because he cleared his throat. "Sir, if I may make a suggestion. Sergeant Siler is a fan and he can be trusted to be discreet."( pictures )Untitled Popslash/Stargate: Atlantis crossover

Subject: Angel/Sandman (PG-13) Title: Ouroboros by SelenaK Pairing: Gen; Connor & Lyta Hall Author on LJ: selenakAuthor Website: Fanfiction PageWhy this must be read: To me, the character with the most potential for a fascinating post- Not Fade Away storyline is Angel's son Connor, and selenak takes all those possibilities and runs with them in "Ouroboros." It only makes sense that he should cross paths with Lyta Hall, in the aftermath of Neil Gaiman's The Wake and Mike Carey's The Furies. This is a fascinating, densely plotted, and brilliantly written story and has one of the most chilling twists on the Connor-canon that I've ever encountered. (I never tire of saying this: Selena is so evil, she is almost Joss). I first read this without knowing Sandman canon, and the story is laid out clearly enough to make sense to a Jossverse newbie as well. One of the truly outstanding fan stories I've read, bar none. I can't do better than to quote the opening: ( Excerpt: What Connor Remembers )Ouroboros

Fandom: DC COMICS Pairing: N/A Author on LJ: dizzycadenceAuthor Website: Author's fic on LJWhy this must be read: girl_starfish described this story as what should be 'the official comfort-fic of anyone who's ever missed Young Justice', and I could not agree more -- seeing Anita, Greta, and Cissie again makes me happier than I should probably admit. I would add that this story could just as easily fill the same role for anyone who misses Impulse, and for those of us who remember that Bart had an entirely different life back in Manchester. This story gives us a Bart consistent with current writing, while retaining his earlier characterisation; he may be older and wiser, but he still keeps caring about all those who are important to him, and makes the effort to show it. It's one of the most lovely character studies/friendship fics I've ever read -- utterly charming, and just a little sad. Whenever I read this story, I can remember just why I fell in love with these characters in the first place. Checking In
