05:27 am The Faults They Had by Brown Betty (G)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: None, Cassandra Cain-centric
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] brown_betty
Author Website: Brown Betty's Page at The Archive at the End of the Universe

Why this must be read:
I've got another gen story to rec: because I like Cassie as Batgirl II, discovering this story made me so happy. It's short, but it captures the quiet yet always evaluating nature of someone who learned to speak so late in life. (More info on that can be found in the overview.)

06:47 am A Journey in Ten Lies by Switchknife (R)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Sirius/Remus, Bill/Remus
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] switchknife
Author Website: Weapon of Choice
Why this must be read:

This is a gorgeously-written look at Remus getting involved with Bill after Sirius's death for all the wrong reasons. It's so very painful, and feels so very real.

06:55 am Sirius Black, Super Genius by Maya (PG)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: James/Lily
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mistful
Author Website: Lasair and Maya's Fanfiction and Ramblings
Why this must be read:

And now for a break from the pain, here's a wonderfully funny romantic comedy, in which Sirius devises a plan to cure James of his love for Lily. Mayhem ensues. There are some nice looks at Sirius's relationship with Regulus and with his friends in the process, but the real appeal is the inspired madness of Sirius with a Plan.

08:14 am Chairman, Not Chairwoman by Maidenjedi (PG)
Fandom: THE WEST WING
Pairing: Gen - Ainsley, Vinick
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] maidenjedi
Author Website: uninvited
Why this must be read: This fic looks at the Democratic nomination at the end of the sixth season, from the Republican viewpoint. It brings back Ainsley Hayes and puts her with Vinick, and there simply isn't enough Vinick-fic. Ainsley still has affection for her former White House collegues, as well as respect for their considerable abilities, but remains determined to work for a Vinick victory.

The author hits both characters' voices, integrity and political stance precisely.

12:58 pm Jeeves Cuts a Gordian Knot by Countess Lydia (PGish)
Fandom: JEEVES & WOOSTER
Pairing: Jeeves/Bertie Wooster
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] weaselwoman13
Author Website: check lj for updates
Why this must be read:

Simply fabulous. From the purchase of 'a nice bright pink tie with a cheerful sort of reddish herringbone pattern'; to Bertie voluntarily attending an avant-garde concert by a composer boasting the name of Janöszhegzcy; where he meets Florence Craye, and comes within range of her almost-superhuman ability to get engaged to Bertie without being asked... Even Jeeves is practically baffled. Will Bertie HAVE to settle down into married bliss this time?

Well, I say 'the heart of the metrop,' but I probably ought to say 'just round the back of its kidneys' )

Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Elijah Wood/Orlando Bloom
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] summerfling
Author Website: Memories
Why this must be read: "Steel" uses a kind of Sliding Doors premise that just works and works. It's beautifully written and wonderfully poignant, opening up a could-have-been scenario that's heart-breakingly realistic.
