I don't really have an OTP for Dick; one benefit to that is I read all pairings, het and slash. This fandom has quite a few Dick/Roy stories, for very good reasons ( which are explained in the overview), and although this isn't my favorite Dick pairing, I highly recommend not ignoring the charms of this "best-friend-turned-lover" pairing. Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Mal/Inara author on lj: brynnmckauthor website: Brynn MckWhy this must be read:Heh, I'm going to confess that I'm lucky to have a flist that does part of my work for me. sdwolfpup recced this in a post and as soon as I read it, I was so glad that she'd recced it now instead of waiting and all of that. SD is right when she says that there's very few writers who get Mal/Inara and manage to translate it to fic. brynnmck captures it incredibly well and makes it the A plot to this wonderful story. Even better, it's one of the most believable post-Serenity movie stories that I've read, and for that reason alone, I love it very much. Since it appears unlikely that we'll get a movie sequel and unlikely that it would happen in the near future if we do, this story serves as a useful epilogue for the loose ends left hanging by Joss. Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: Methos/OFC briefly Author on LJ: not that I've found Author Website: Xenon's DungeonWhy this must be read:It's a bloody fantastic tale of Methos' first death and his initiation into Immortality. Of all the first death stories I've read about Methos, this is my favorite. After rising from the dead, his fears of what he is are well done, ringing true to the beliefs of the period. And throughout the story we see shades of the Horseman Methos will become and also the man MacLeod will meet. When he is confronted with other Immortals it is easy to see how he came to be Death. Yet at the same time his live-and-fight-another-day instinct and longing for knowledge are at odds with his darker side, and essentially his Immortal nature – the hunger for power and destruction to ensure that he is the Only One. The writing in this story is very good. "Initiation" has the most vivid and powerful description of a Quickening that I can remember reading. And Methos' wonder at his first sight of the sea is so beautifully done that I want to be standing on the coast at the edge of the Pacific so I can feel it for myself. Initiation"Initiation" is the first story in The Methos and Kronos Journals, a collection which has 49 stories and counting. - Mood: nostalgic

Fandom: CSI: LV Pairing: Gil/Greg Author on LJ: laurelgardnerAuthor's Website: Laurel's MemoriesWhy this must be read: This story takes a very hard look at Grissom and focuses a lot on his inability to connect with people, even his friends, in a meaningful way. Greg has ended up stepping into Catherine's shoes as Grissom's minder after she gets married and moves away. He's the first to notice that Grissom is slowly fading into the background and growing steadily more and more depressed. Sofia steps in and essentially orders Grissom to either go into therapy or step down as supervisor. The story follows Grissom's therapy sessions and his growing relationship with Greg. It's a long, in-depth story that really shows what could happen if Grissom's left adrift for too long.
