Why this must be read:

This story is a bleak and realistic take on House and Cameron in a relationship. "The sex is isolating," and as usual, House expends a lot more energy on talking the situation over with Wilson than on the relationship itself.

I love the quietness of this story. House gets more attention for his loud-mouth wit, but there are frequent moments of silent contemplation on the show that fan fiction often leaves out. The style and atmosphere of this story captures that balance. The silences are just as important as what is said.

Even if you don't normally like House/Cameron, I strongly suggest you read this one. And then be sure to let [livejournal.com profile] mojokitten know how brilliant it is!

Pairing: Gen - Welsh, Frannie

Why this must be read:

Set post-CotW this picks up the threads of Frannie's Academy ambitions. But she needs references, and with Fraser and Kowalski somewhere in Canada, this leads to the discussion with Welsh that is the focus of this story.

The way she uses Welsh's POV works very well - to see how his mind works, how he knows exactly what's going on, this is why he's the guy in charge - as well as forcing Frannie to articulate what might otherwise not be apparent. And Francesca, this highlights her reasons for applying - which work, yes, including the Fraser effect - and how those have changed over time. Both characters' voices work, and the way Welsh signals his decision over Frannie's application is just perfect.

Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: River/Kaylee
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tremblingmoon
Author Website: a bare-bones archive of my fan fiction
Why this must be read:

Lovely, lyrical, luminous River/Kaylee story, with a wonderful River-voice.

These days, River is lucid but huge, taking in everything and knowing without question that her body is not her body but a function of how people perceive it or her or themselves. And they think she is psychic only because they don’t realize that boundaries are prescribed by perception. When each breath is an association and everything touches because nothing is separate, minds become very permeable things and nothing as culturally-constructed as privacy or individual thought matters much to her anymore.
