Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: N/A Author on LJ: bktheirregularAuthor Website: IrregularitiesWhy this must be read:This is a piece about chess, stradegy and knowing the abilities of your pieces. IT's both a lesson and a warning and shows exactly why Scopius and Crichton are perfect foils for each other. It shows that Sikozu, while very intelligent, isn't always smart and that both Scorpius and Crichton have both intelligence and smarts. It's a short little piece that's pretty much all dialogue and at least for me makes me wish I understood chess more, or that the author did (which I asked about and they claimed their ignorance) to write a Crichton-Scorpius sequel. Under-PromotionRead and don't forget to feed the author.

Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: Lance/Chris, Joey/Kelly Author on LJ: synecdochicAuthor Website: venus in fursWhy this must be read: Because this is one of the best retellings of Tam Lin I've ever read. Because it's an absolutely wonderful story about the strenght of friendship and of love. The never-admitted love that makes Lance desperate to find a way to save Chris, the friendship that makes the rest of Nsync willing to take on something none of them really believes in for Chris' sake. The writing is beautiful and fully captures the contrasts between their modern-day life and the old, old tale they find themselves caught up in. ( Excerpt )Heart of Stone, Eyes of Tree

Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: Lance/Chris Author on LJ: piersonAuthor Website: Infinite PassionsWhy this must be read: Because it's funny and insightsful and sweet and hot. Because it's a great on-tour story. Everything is wonderfully written, from Lance's relationship with the mercurial Chris, over JC's excentricity, to the hot sex scenes, and the breakfast scene is one of my favourites in any story ever. Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: GSF (Backstreet Boys) Author on LJ: bubbleforestAuthor Website: Yours-Completely.OrgWhy this must be read: Because it's beautiful and sad, hopeful and hot, all at the same time. Because I didn't think a GSF could be heartbreaking but this one is. It's a Kevin-centric view of the Boys' last night together after Kevin declared he's leaving the group. Absolutely lovely. Fandom: ANDROMEDA Pairing: None that I remember Author on LJ: None that I know of Author Website: Survival InstinctsWhy this must be read: WARNING: This fic is 36 chapters with an epilogue but it is one of the most amazingly written fics I have ever seen. It is WELL worth the time. And it's full of Harper angst, which *always* floats my boat. ;) Survival Instincts - Mood: chipper

Fandom: XMEN COMICVERSE Pairing: Gen, references Emma Frost/Scott Summers and Emma Frost/Sebastian Shaw Author on LJ: sionnainAuthor Website: sionnain_ficsWhy this must be read:Emma Frost is definitely one of the most divisive characters in the X-men comics -- in canon and fandom. I can't always decide how I feel about her from one moment to the next, but she certainly has the potential to be an endlessly fascinating character. With this fic, sionnain single-handedly invented a genre, while providing twenty highly amusing and revealing facts about Miss Frost. Set in current comics timeline, with no plot spoilers. Beginning at the beginning: 1. Emma’s cell phone has different ringtones for people she knows, which she doesn’t really need since she’s a telepath. Any call coming in from the mansion rings with the "William Tell Overture," which she finds annoying and inspires her to answer quickly. Kitty’s cell phone rings in with "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks—Emma only saw the title and doesn’t really know the song, and Kitty’s actually never called her so it’s never worked. As for the rest: Twenty Things you Might Not Know about Emma Frost

Fandom: Firefly Pairing: Mal/Zoe/Wash Author on LJ: kassrachelAuthor website: Slash Scribblings Why this must be read:Okay, this was written for me in this year's Remix Redux, but I'd rec this anyway, without any hesitation, because Mal/Zoe/Wash is the threesome of ultimate hotness, and this story brings the hotness in spades. Which would be pretty awesome on its own, but it's also funny, perfectly in character, and it does an incredible job of showing us the friendship between the three of them. The dialogue is spot on, too, and I love how it turns Wash's jealousy in War Stories into this, in a way that is perfectly logical and believable. An excerpt: With some difficulty, Mal shifts in his chair. Black eye looks garish on Wash, and he's standing a little gingerly, but at least he's up and moving. "I was telling your wife I surely do appreciate your coming along on that rescue mission."
Something in Wash's posture changes, and when he answers there is no joking in his tone. "There was never any question."
"Wouldn't have been any dishonor in staying back."
"That's where I have to respectfully disagree. You're the captain. And," he adds, quickly, as though he senses that Mal is about to talk back, "you kept me alive, and don't think I don't know it."
