Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cross_stitchery
Author Website: Elaine's Sentinel Site
Why this must be read:

Elaine takes the crack-fic premise of Genie!Blair and punts it with all the determination of Dan Carter going for the penalty. (Obscure to most, I know. But when the author and the reccer are both New Zealanders…) There’s a touch of poignancy amidst the fun. Also, it has Blair in peacock-blue harem pants. What more need I say?

Fandom:THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon and Illya, can be gen or slash
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lazy_neutrino
Author website: none, but this was posted on the MFU Writers Survival School
Why this must be read:

Unlike other television series, especially those aired from the 1980s onward, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was not an ensemble show. Besides Solo and Kuryakin, the only other character who rated extended screen time was their superior, Mr. Alexander Waverly.

And yet, particularly in episodes set within the steel fortress, the so-called “chrome and gunmetal madhouse” that was U.N.C.L.E. HQ New York, we glimpsed in the background all sorts of interesting folks, “support” personnel, who also worked for the U.N.C.L.E. organization.

This is a short piece featuring one of those people. His name is Mitch and his actual job title is never given. But on one clear night in Los Angeles, his brand of support is sorely needed by Solo and Kuryakin as they teeter on the edge of a dark abyss.

Fittingly, the story is told in first person in a smoky, world-weary, film noir voice worthy of Raymond Chandler.

The author [livejournal.com profile] lazy_neutrino has written for other fandoms, but this is her first contribution to MFU.

All I can say is: write more.

Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN ~ Old West
Pairing: Chris/Vin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] smilla02
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read:

This takes place a breath after Chris and Vin have climaxed, sweaty, breathless and swallowing against things left unsaid and undone. Beautifully descriptive it explores the different way men express affection and the need for it. There is a lot going on in the small space between them.

Vin is an unknown trail. )

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully UST
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: here

Why this must be read: Well-written case files with interesting Mulder & Scully interaction are a favorite story type of mine, and "Bridge" is one of my favorites of the genre. The author presents a story that takes place immediately after the Season 7 episode, "Field Trip" (the one where M&S are trapped by a giant, hallucinogenic mushroom), but is focused on a case that echoes the Season 5 episode, "Folie a Deux" (the one where Mulder tangles with a seemingly innocuous middle manager-type who is actually a giant, evil bug that turns people into zombies).

Don't you just love this show?

In addition to being a sequel to two different, fascinating episodes, the story makes clever use of the ephemeral telepathic communication established between M&S during the events of "Field Trip" and examines how two very private people deal with it.

Why this must be read:

If you don't think that Anyanka running into Dracula while completely failing to inflict vengeance on an adulterous husband is a hilarious situation then you obviously haven't read this fic. It's very funny and has a great Anya voice.

Anyanka seethed.

Accidentally making even one person’s life better was regarded as sheer carelessness in the Vengeance Demon profession, and a considerable blot on one's copybook. Spectacularly improving the lot of four people, and incidentally stimulating the economy of a large stretch of Yorkshire, could only lead to a disciplinary interview, and very likely a formal warning - something generally delivered with red hot pincers.

Fandom:  Highlander
Pairing:
Duncan/Methos
Author on LJ:  [personal profile] hafital
Why this must be read:  I feel very fortunate that [personal profile] hafital posted this just a few days ago, so I get the opportunity to recommend this brand new story.  It is poignant and scary and sexy and hopeful all at once, as Duncan and Methos stumble beautifully around each other, but eventually find themselves right where they ought to be, only to confront consequences they cannot accept -- yet "the alternative is unthinkable."  Highly, highly recommended.
