05:59 am VID REC: Due South - 9 to 5
Vidder: Voiceless 009
Musical artist: Dolly Parton
Pairing: Gen
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] voiceless009
Vidder's website: Voiceless009's Corner
Why this vid kicks ass:

I think that Voiceless really says it best when she claims that this is her "love letter to the show". Peppy, fun, and upbeat, it really captures everything that makes Due South so near and dear to my heart. Even if you have never seen an episode of the show, I think that this vid works on multiple levels, so you could watch and enjoy regardless of what level you are enjoying! (And don't let the Dolly Parton scare you - it really, really works!)

12:37 pm She Comes Here a Lot by Justbreathe80 (NC-17)
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: Fraser/Stella
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] justbreathe80
Author Website: Giggling and Dizzy
Why this must be read:

This pairing seems to be made of nothing but pain, but [livejournal.com profile] justbreathe80 does an absolutly beautiful job of taking that pain and making it good. Both Fraser and Stella are frustrated with the men in their lives - Ray doesn't seem to reciprocate Fraser's feelings and Stella has just been stood up on her date - when they run into each other in a bar. It is a one night stand that should seriously be nothing more than a PWP. But it isn't. It is about meeting needs and just making a connection, even if it is just for a night. It is about seeing that underneath it all, the incomperhensible isn't really that different from you. (And it is my token het pairing, because I'll admidt to not reading much het in this fandom. But even if you are a dedicated slasher, I urge you to give this a shot, because it is some of the best het that I've run across in any fandom)

01:30 pm (Perspective's a Bitch) Negative Feed by Sage (NC-17)
Fandom: HARD CORE LOGO
Pairing: Joe/Billy, Billy/f, Billy/m
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sageness
Author Website: fic by Sage

Why this must be read:
When I first read "Negative Feed," it was a revelation. I'd been longing for stories set after Joe's death, but I didn't want Billy angsting endlessly. This story in which Joe's spirit haunts Billy is satisfying because both men are present and they are both working through their relationship and their past history. I like the entire conceit of the afterlife (and it'd be comforting to me if I could believe death was really like this).

As you can see from the pairing list, there is both m/m and het sex, plus a foursome with the band. The primary pairing of Joe/Billy is the most important, but the others are relevant to the story, not tossed in there to amp up the porn factor. I really like the way Sage shows the friendship the members of Jenifur share.

Fandom: HARD CORE LOGO
Pairing: None (but you know it's all about Joe/Billy)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sageness
Author Website: fic by Sage

Why this must be read:
This is about how Joe and Billy meet, and it's so perfectly in character that you have to smile. You can see the roots of their relationship right here.

01:57 pm Nobody's Side by BrooklineGirl (NC-17)
Fandom: HARD CORE LOGO
Pairing: Joe/Billy
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl
Author Website: Happy Friend Box

Why this must be read:
This story takes us into Billy's head, placing the events of the movie in clearer focus, but Joe's very much part of Billy's motivations, and their push-pull relationship is shown at work. They resent the hell out of needing each other, and they are so good at not talking they deserve an award.

09:56 pm Fed up for the longest by tailwind (PG or so)
Fandom: BOONDOCK SAINTS
Pairing: Gen, Connor and Murphy MacManus
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tailwind
Author Website: her journal
Why this must be read:This might not have happened. Might not have, but could have. It takes a premise - one that may or may not be true - and explains it, in not so many words. But it explains it enough so that by the last line, you're going "oh shit." I know I rec'd something by [livejournal.com profile] tailwind already, but if you haven't got the drift, get your lazy bum over to this kids journal and read the fics! They're all absolutely amazing, I just picked a few to share. In any case, this is a nice piece of background that just slides into the world and while it hasn't got a huge effect on how you see the movie, it gives the characters a slight nudge into walking off the TV screen and becoming more three dimensional.

Fed up for the longest.

10:09 pm scriptum, scripsi by tacks (PG13)
Fandom: BOONDOCK SAINTS
Pairing: Gen, Connor and Murphy MacManus (it can be read as Connor/Murphy, if you try, though :) )
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tacks
Author Website: her lj works.
Why this must be read: [livejournal.com profile] tacks is one of my favorites. It's hard for me to pick a story (though she does a kick ass crossover, let me tell you) but I think this one truly sheds the best light on the characters and her writing style. It's not nice and flowery and flowing - it's more like someone dumped the bucket over you. It's half stream of conscious half nit picky wording about characters with a little room left for pure emotions. It's all over and goes into corners most people forgets - and it seems so fucking real.

Connor feels like he’s forgetting things already. How to be anything but this. The running fast, the killing, the kneeling, the sounds of the coins sliding together in his palm like pools of shrapnel he baptises with.

11:08 pm Don't Look Now, But Your Ways Have Parted by Red Scharlach (Teen)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: None, really
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] redscharlach
Author Website: Red Scharlach
Why this must be read:

Being what it is, the Doctor Who fandom has a fairly healthy proportion of good humour fics. Also, considering the nature of online fandom, it doesn't take long for certain sections of the fic scene (particular post-Finale for both series) to develop a few, well, cliches. Cliches which are ripe for parodies to exploit and play with.

One of my favourite Doctor Who parodies is this fic, gently mocking a lot of the post-Parting of the Ways fic concepts that showed up in the first few months of fandom. With some utterly hysterical concepts and lines (Hello, "The Oncoming Coat"!), and just some sheer outrageousness. I have a deep appreciation for good comedy writers, and this wonderful bit of parody and wit always makes me laugh.
