Fandom: ANGEL Pairing: Wes/Gunn Author on LJ: callmesandyAuthor Website: lowercase kWhy this must be read:So, yeah, I like road trip stories (that's one of the reasons I like Supernatural). And this "Wes and Gunn on the road" story is a fix-it for the series ending, so that's another reason I chose it. It's a good story on which to end my month of recs. something that you learn on a tightrope

Vidder: Pearl-o Musical artist Handsome Family Pairing: Joe/Billy Vidder on LJ: pearl_oVidder's Web site: but george, you're a communist Why this vid kicks ass: (Sorry I am posting this late--I forgot to post this rec. I'm going to do it anyway, because there aren't any HCL vids in the memories, and this vid is too good to miss.) The song is so right for Joe; it's full of melancholy anger. I loved the way Pearl-o put together the scenes she chose, and seeing Joe spiraling out of control in two and a half minutes is painful, especially when set to this song. ( lyrics )Drunk by Noon

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS Pairing: John/Rodney, John/Elizabeth (past mentions) Author on LJ: wesleysgirlAuthor Website: Adds MysteryWhy this must be read: because this story rings true in every sense. Yes, it is an Earthside A/U where John and Elizabeth were married and had a child, but that isn't the focus of the story. As when the story opens Elizabeth has died, leaving John to raise their child alone. No, the focus of this story is about John. It is about his grief, his love for his daughter and how falling for Rodney has changed his life - for the better. An incredible moving story that to me sums up what death, living and love is about. The sequel is just as good. I've listed them both here. On Life and LivingSequel, The Way to Comfort

Fandom: GOOD OMENS Pairing: Crowley/Aziraphale Author on LJ: giddygeek (Giddy) Author Website: The GeekdomWhy this must be read:"A Precise and Accurate History of Monday, Eleven Years Later" is clever and funny and smart...and, sadly, the only story Giddy's ever written in this fandom The premise is simple: for over a decade, Crowley had been on temporary reassignment to America and had been quite content to simply get on with his life After all, he'd been busy: there were people to tempt, plants to intimidate, alcohol to drink...that sort of thing. However, Aziraphale had been assigned to America as well...and once they return to London, Aziraphale gets it into his head that the two of them should visit Adam, after which there's really nothing for it but that they get in the car and drive to Lower Tadfield. Once there, of course, in little more than the time it takes to eat a chocolate chip cookie or three, both Demon and Angel are explaining their New Arrangement...and are maybe on the way to understanding it themselves. Fandom: DC COMICS Pairing: Tim Drake/Kon Author on LJ: solvent90Author Website: solvent90's memoriesWhy this must be read:This was written for the Harlequin Romance challenge, but while the plot borrows from the familiar tropes of Harlequin romances, this story is definitely a cut above. The Tim POV is marvelously in character and very distinctive. All of the minor characters, from Batman to Wonder Girl and Kid Flash, are drawn beautifully. And the Tim/Kon romance is entirely believable, full of just the right kind of angst, and very, very sweet. Cover

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E Pairing: Illya/OC Author on LJ: No Author Website: File FortyWhy this must be read:And now, for Halloween, a suitably gothic romance. Take one tasty Russian spy in need of a little post-mission recreation, a suspiciously Napoleon-like OC with a penchant for delectable blonds, throw in a sensuous Italian evening and the stage is set for a deliciously tongue-in-cheek dalliance with a difference. Buon appetito! That's it from me for October, hope you enjoyed it. Dinner for Two

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS Pairing: John/Rodney Author on LJ: lallybrochAuthor Website: Unknown Why this must be read: because alternative reality stories are so sublime - and fun. This story starts out with a cute girl falling through the Stargate. The girl it turns out is Margaret Sheppard McKay from the year 2014. It seems somewhere in the future Rodney and John have had a child - their biological child. Needless to say the two men in this reality are a bit freaked that their alter egos are gay, but with time, Maggie wins them over to the idea of them as a family - and them as a couple. And before you run into the hills screaming, "kidfic," know that this story is more about John and Rodney learning how to be good parents and the possibilities that Maggie existence opens up for them. This is a truly lovely story and I'd love to see a sequel to see exactly how Maggie came about. *g* SupersymmetryLink will lead you to the fifth part of the story, but part one is listed there too. Or click on Supersymmetry tag and you'll find all the parts.

Fandom: STARGATE SG1 Pairing: Gen - Sha're, Sam Author on LJ: rydra_wongAuthor Website: Fic in memoriesWhy this must be read:This AU - set in season six - follows Sha're's release from Amaunet's influence and her time afterward at the SGC. Sha're is a richly depicted, complex character and her interactions with the SGC personnel as they try their post-host debriefing feel really accurate. Sha're's perspective, and her acclimatization throughout - that is the character who defied the goddess-parasite controlling her. But it's Sha're's relationship with Sam that's a lynchpin here, as Sam tries her awkward best to help Sha're and the short moments with Janet, Teal'c. And the seeds of Sha're that are hiding from Amaunet grow throughout the fic. ( Excerpt )Scotoma
