Fandom: MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Pairing: None. Gen-fic Author on LJ: n/a Author Website: Tonny's page at Drinking 'n' fightingWhy this fic must be read:I love Chris and Buck and their incredibly dysfunctional friendship, and I figure this fic is about as good a metaphor for that friendship as you're ever going to get. Chris stands too close to the edge, Buck damn near kills himself to keep him from falling and the others come along just in time. Holding On To You by Tonny

Fandom: THE A-TEAM Pairing: Face/Murdock Author on LJ: emmastarkAuthor Website: Her A-Team fics can be found here and hereWhy this must be read: I owe a lot to Emma Stark. Although I don't know her, she's the person that made A-Team slash believable for me. As a writer, she does a lot of things writers are cautioned against: she writes in multiple points of view; in short, not-quite-sentences that are sometimes staccato, sometimes lyrical. But her writing draws you in, puts you in the middle of the chaos of the characters' lives and makes you feel the fear and the exhilaration and the desperation. She makes you believe that two tough guys can find something together in the middle of a war. It's quick and hot and dirty; it's Jim Morrison in the background and shells going off; it's joy and celebration and being alive. This is the story that made me believe. Fandom: THE A-TEAM Pairing: none Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: unknown Why this must be read: "Sound of Thunder" is, in my opinion, one of the best episodes of the series, especially if you're a fan of re-visiting the Team's time in Vietnam. However, it's also one of the most frustrating in terms of unanswered questions. In one scene, the team is escaping from Vietnam with the body of General Fullbright on board their helicopter, his Vietnamese daughter with them, and Murdock in the pilot's seat with a bullet hole in his shoulder. The next scene they're in the US, no mention of Murdock's injury or how they glossed over Fullbright's death. Nothing. This fic attempts to fill in that missing timeline from when Murdock gets shot to when they get back to the States. It's plausible, and pulls in the character of Maggie Sullivan to help them. It's got a measure of hurt/comfort, drama, angst, and a good team dynamic. It answers some of the questions the episode left open, and it neatly frames the story with the two scenes from the episode. Even those who aren't familiar with the episode should be able to catch up quite easily. ( an excerpt from The Sound of Thunder Part II ) Read the fic: The Sound of Thunder Part II (The story is in two parts, but it's complete. Fandom: SUPERNATURAL Pairing: Dean/Ellen Author on LJ: leadenskyAuthor Website: Hossgal's fanfiction linksWhy this must be read:To follow the most recent episode of Supernatural, a gorgeous piece of het set sometime just before. I would almost call it gen for the way sex is subliminated by Dean and Ellen to pass for actual emotional connection and speaking. These are two people who are deeply uncomfortable with talking about their feelings, but they feel deeply. The back and forth in time sets a quiet tempo that wraps up at the end, a tiny bit of sugar after the salt sting of the note. Most of all, what I like about it is that the Dean and John Wincester connection is played exactly as it is - family, not kink. Love and loneliness. The Roadhouse being a home and the Wincesters always leaving. Every Time Is The Last Time

Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT Pairing: Casey/Dan Author on LJ: lordessrenegadeAuthor Website: cosmic debris Why this must be read: last time I recced Sports Night for crack_van, I believe I referred to lordessrenegade as the Great White Hope of SN. Astonishingly, she's still speaking to me. Less astonishingly, she's continued to live up to that promise, producing a steady stream of quality fic – mostly drabbles or linked drabbles, or short fic, but some longer – on a semi-regular basis. Seeing a SN fic cut on her LJ never fails to lift my spirits, because I know that when I click on the link, I'll find something wonderful waiting for me underneath. Like this: it has angst, it has porn; it has college-age Danny in jeans. It could have been written especially to my specifications. Actually, it sort-of was – lordessrenegade wrote it for my birthday. They do say that the best presents are made, not bought (though a pony would be nice, too), and this was a marvellous, and most unexpected present. One that I'm happy to share.
