Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Malcolm/Inara Author on LJ: vivficAuthor Website: Unknown Link: Gravity is not Responsible for Your FallWhy this must be read: This is a well written fic with a quiet depth of emotion to it that is very moving. The author is very good at writing to the feelings of Serenity's crew after the BDM, without stepping over to the excessively sentimental. (She) is very good at capturing the voices of the crew and has a deft hand when it comes to images and descriptions. And one of the best scenes is (her) description of Inara painting the Serenity character onto the side of the ship. (I dare you to not get at least a little choked up over it *grin*) Go read; enjoy; and remember to 'feed the author' ( Excerpt ) Gravity is not Responsible for Your Fall - Mood: indescribable

Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT Pairing: None; Casey, Dan Author on LJ: likethesun2Author Website: Finishing the Hat Why this must be read: all authors, to a greater or a lesser degree, are artists; likethesun2 is a craftsman: she constructs her work painstakingly, meticulously, honing and editing until every word is perfect. She writes in many fandoms, but has given us several wonderful SN fics this year, each of them a thing of beauty. This is the first one I read. Casey's marriage, and his world, are falling apart, but in the busy, busybody atmosphere of the SN workplace, he finds a moment's peace. By the way? There is, apparently, a long SN WIP in, er, progress, and refusing to co-operate, rather. It's rude and mean to tease authors for fics that don't want to be written … but I do hope that one day this one will decide to play nicely. We badly need more of this sort of thing. Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim/Blair Author on LJ:don't know Author Website: J L Blackstone slash storiesWhy this must be read:This is the first story in the Lawyer Blair AU series. I read Legalities of Love when it was published in the Many Faces of Blair Ezine back in 2001. I had no idea the author had pursued it. I was really happy to find the rest of the series. It's a romance story. Man meets man. They fall in love. Obstacles are put in there way. Classic romance. Classic Sentinel twist. Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: Napoleon/Illya (slash but really only hinted at) Author on LJ: joolz01Author Website: StoryGate: Fan Fiction by JoolzWhy this must be read:Meet Clarice Farrell, a sheltered, awkward young woman who desperately wants to be more interesting, and thinks that hanging with the cool kids will help her discover "where it's at". Enter two beyond-cool UNCLE agents who must escort her safely to her father in New York City, with Thrush in close pursuit. Along the way, a confused, resentful and frequently terrified Clarice discovers reserves of courage and strength, thanks to the examples in front of her. It's great fun seeing Napoleon and Illya through Clarice's eyes, too. They let their guard down to reassure her, bantering and teasing, and their honest affection for each other is a beacon of revelation by which Clarice confronts her fears and conditioning, and chooses what to believe for herself. Isn't there a Clarice inside most of us? We should all be so lucky to have a pair of UNCLE agents around to show us where it's at. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do. Passion by Speranza (NC-17) Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski Author's Website: Speranza’s dS FanfictionAuthor on LJ: cesperanzaWhy this must be read:As justacat said nearly two years ago, rec’ing a cesperanza fic to the due South fandom is almost redundant. Because...duh. She’s Ces! Her middle name might as well be “master of heartbreakingly well-observed character work.” She’s written the book on long angsty thinky-type fic. And, um, her stuff is also hot. But even the best of the best still have stories that are underappreciated, under-rec’ed, or just plain ignored. And I’d like to bring your collective attention to the stunningly beautiful and potentially polarizing story Passion. ( Ramblings )Not sold? Here’s an ( excerpt )PassionRemember to tell Ces what you think of the story. I hear authors like that sort of thing.

I think, for this week, I'll do a variety selection from the SHarecon zines. Fandom: Starsky/Hutch Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Why this must be read: This was originally published in the SHareCon 2002 zine. Like the old movie asks, how does our presence affect those around us? We may think others would be better off without us, but is that necessarily true? Starsky's about to find out. Hutch and he had a fight where the last thing Hutch said to him was that Starsky was the worst thing that ever happened to him. It may be the last thing either of them remember about the other because immediately after that Hutch was hit by a car. Now Starsky thinks that Hutch was right, maybe everyone would be better off if Starsky hadn't ever been in their lives. Huggy sets out to prove him wrong. "I heard you say you thought Hutch would be better off if you'd never met him, which is just so much jive talkin' as I've ever heard. I'm here to set the record straight," Huggy explained.
Starsky looked around at the parking garage they stood in. "Where's here?" he demanded. "And where's Hutch?" he repeated.
Huggy linked his arm through Starsky's and began towing him across the curiously empty parking garage. "Hutch is where I'm taking you. As for where you are . . ." A huge grin bisected the homely face. ". . . you're the SciFi fan. Where do you think you are?"So many instances: Humphries, the herion, Vanessa, Gillian, etc. So many times when Starsky was there, able to save Hutch time and again. But without Starsky around, what becomes of Hutch? Huggy reveals all and it's a sobering reality. Starsky learns his lesson well, but will Hutch wake up so that they can get back what they had? It's a Wonderful Life?

Fandom: Starsky/Hutch Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Why this must be read: This one is from the SHarecon 2002 zine and it's very sweet. Hutch is getting audited by the IRS and to say he's a little nervous is an understatement. And no one is giving him a definite answer of how to handle it. "I just want to make the right impression . . ." Hutch opined, some of the stress visibly draining from his face. "I asked my accountant for advice."
"Yeah? What'd he say?"
"He said wear my shabbiest clothing. Let them think I'm a pauper." Starsky heard shades of Jack Mitchell in his partner's rich voice. Uh-huh, this is not the time for a trip down memory lane.
"The reason the accountant gave you any advice at all was because he thought you were gonna shoot him," Starsky said, giving Hutch a wicked grin. "I was there. You grilled him like some lowlife perp too wet to step on and too low to kick. He had to tell you something just to get you out of his office. He said your tax returns are fine."
"Well, what about what the lawyer said when I asked him the same question?" Hutch demanded. "I got conflicting advice, buddy. He said not to let them intimidate me—said I should wear my most elegant suit and tie."
Hutch has got the bit in his teeth. "That guy acted like you were gonna shoot him, too. Hutch, the lawyer told you this was just a routine audit and that everything was gonna be okay. He said that stuff about the suit to calm you down, since it was obvious you didn't like the advice your accountant gave you."But Starsky knows just how to make it all better. A sweet, domestic story of love through the everyday problems of life. They'll make it through...together. Gentle Hands on the Reins

Fandom: Starsky/Hutch Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Why this must be read: Written for the SHareCon 2002 zine, the story takes place after the Gunther shooting. Starsky's thought about some things and realized that former hang-ups really aren't that a big a deal. As he points out, dying changes a person. However, Hutch is having trouble keeping up with all the changes. Out to lunch at the Pits, Starsky spots his friend Rick...who Hutch does not know. After Rick and Starsky flirt very openly in front of Hutch, Rick takes his leave and Hutch has some questions. "Starsky," Hutch began, his voice purposely pitched low. "Who was that?"
Hutch could have knocked his partner on his ass when Starsky looked around. "Who? Rick?"
"Yes, Rick. Don't play dumb," Hutch commented, pinioning Starsky with his eyes. "Who is he and where did you meet him?
"Cute, huh?" Starsky offered up, grinning ear to ear.
Hutch blinked. "Uh—uh, Starsk, did I miss something? When we walked into the Pits did we make a detour to the 'Twilight Zone'?"
"Whattdaya mean?" Starsky asked, his face a study of innocence.
Yeah, right.
Counting to five, Hutch swore he wouldn't lose his temper. "You know what I mean. Who is Rick, and where did you meet him? And since when were you and Huggy running together with a gay guy?"
And why didn't I know about it? And, better yet, why wasn't I invited?
"Rick and Huggy have known each other for a while. I met Rick a few months ago at the Calypso. It's a club. A gay dance club—you know," Starsky continued helpfully, "they used to call 'em discos?"Hutch's confusion doesn't go away. In fact, it just deepens. Starsky takes Hutch out to the club he and Rick frequents and some realizations come to light. Dying changes a person, but it also opens the door to a pretty good future. Sometimes, changing teams is just what's needed. Changng Teams
