12:45 am Road Trip by Matthew Haldeman-Time (NC-17)
Hi, I'm qbic1 and I'll be your popslash driver for the month. I'm an old school popslasher. I started out with BSB, fell for *NSYNC, let Slim Shady drag me to the dark side, but a poster from 98 Degrees ... well, you get the picture. :-) And somewhere, I never managed to put down a group. Five, Blue, BoyZone, O-Town, anyone? But for the start of a new year, I want to take you back to my original loves. So this month, you will see the stories that got me hooked on the guys all those years ago. Hope you enjoy the recs.

Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing:*NSYNC GSF
Author on LJ:Matthew Haldeman-Time
Author Website:Sweet Uncleanness
Why this must be read:

It amazes me that Matthew only been recced once (and I did it) considering the enormous amount of superior fiction he has written. Road Trip is a perfect example of his best work. Funny, snarky, complex and 3-dimensional, MHT takes the men on a trip they will never forget. Each giant chapter gives another insight into the group dynamics while they drive cross country. It's as if Jane Austin wrote slash ... and porn. Your monitor will sizzle. Take a Road Trip w/Matthew and *NSYNC. Try it, you'll like it.

12:08 pm Pyrrhic by Laura Smith (PG)
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (2003)
Pairing: Saul/Ellen
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl
Author Website:A Multitude of Voices & BSG Fic on LJ
Why this must be read:

This is a fic that focuses on the manifestations of grief and love, of a Saul Tigh that is back on Galactica and struggling with the decisions he made on New Caprica. Pyrrhic does a great job showing a haunted Tigh and is a great look at how the most important people in his life can forgive him but that doesn’t mean he’s forgiving himself.

“Hero saves the damsel in distress.”
“Damned, Saul. Not a damsel.” She smiles at him and then slides off into the shadows on his right side. “But you never noticed the difference.”

02:13 pm Rumination Cycle by Kaye (R)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Why this must be read: This is my first time doing Crack_Van recs and I'm really looking forward to tintroducing others to some of my favourite Starsky and Hutch stories. My first pick is Rumination Cycle by Kaye. This is not a pretty story-full of Season Four angst and anger. It takes place New Year's Eve and New Year's Day post- Kira. Starsky and Hutch have pulled away from each other. Kaye writes their pain as something real, something palpable that lives and breathes and affects (even infects) everything they do.

Hutch says:

I watch him as he makes some kind of decision. I always can tell when he makes some kind of decision. I always know. When did I forget that part? Before or after I forgot myself?

“Here’s the way I see it,” he starts, and I am heartened by this. Four years roll away and we are leaning against his damn car, having a meaningless conversation about some case, and he cocks his head, heading for home as he makes his point, and I realize at that moment that I am hopelessly and endlessly and over and over again caught in his smile. My God, it’s so beautiful when that boy smiles.

Hey there! I'm Ness, and I'll be your Stargate enabler this month. *g*

Fandom: STARGATE SG1
Pairing: Sam/Jack (Jack/Sara)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] elly427
Author Website: eikonoklastes
Why this must be read: This is a pre-series AU set in the Gulf War and, while the chances of it having happened are remote, it's also not completely impossible. Clear writing makes this an intriguing (and sexy) what-if.

04:45 pm The Story of Boston Bound by Tipper
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Tipper's M7 Fanfiction
Why this must be read:

Meg Tipper is one of my favorite authors for good, classic storytelling and plot. Her characterization is always excellent, and there's a real story involved, that both entertains us and lets us explore the characters. The Story of Boston Bound is one of those rare stories that takes a serious look at the historical setting of the Civil War. When someone from Nathan's past as a slave shows up in town, trouble soon follows, and the Seven soon have a classic mystery on their hands.
