07:49 am NCIS/Sapphire and Steel PG-13

Title: Thicker than water
Pairing: Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Donald "Ducky" Mallard, Steel/Silver
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] feenixandashes
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

What do NCIS and Sapphire and Steel have in common?
Right, they both have David McCallum in it. Sapphire and Steel ran from 1979 to 1982 and David McCallum played Steel, a hot alien with the ability to heal/’mess with’ time.

How can you make a crossover of NCIS and Sapphire and Steel?
Ren shows you how. It’s fantastic.

Like most shows, Sapphire and Steel have a slash pairing, namely Steel with another element, Silver. Steel, hard and unemotional, and Silver, perky and warm.

Without saying much about the plot (because that would spoil *everything*), Ren manages to combine the two shows brilliantly without making it sound corny or out of character.

Thicker than water may look like a death fic, but it really isn’t!

11:44 am House/Buffyverse (G)
Title: Enigmatic Absurdities by Eponine
Pairing: House/Wilson
Author Website: Story found at The House Fanfiction Archive
Why this must be read:

Because I barely got over Angel trying to keep House from figuring out about vampires before Faith decided she wanted to play doctor, and then the rest of the Scoobies showed up...

"So not only are you guys the supernatural Men in Black, but you're Van Helsing and friends?" House asked, eyebrow raised.

"It's a living," Xander said easily.

"Not a very good one, by the looks of it," House pointed out wryly. "What happened to your eye?"

"Red Rider BB gun," Xander answered quickly. "What happened to your leg?"

"I poked a badger with a spoon," House responded seriously.

"Ornery critters, badgers," Xander observed sagely.

11:59 am The Sentinel/One West Waikiki (NC-17)
Title: Sugar is Sweet by Russet McMillan
Pairing: Blair/Mack, Jim/Holliday, Jim/Blair
Author Website: Mcmillan Writings
Why this must be read:

I was determined to go against the grain and do a non-SG1 crossover, and One West Waikiki seemed like the perfect alternative. For those not in the know, Richard Burgi starred in both shows, which in this case leaves Blair falling head over heels for someone who looks and sounds just like his partner, who he thinks is out of reach.

05:45 pm The Magnificent Seven/The A-Team (PG-13)
Title: Alpha Males by Meg Tipper
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: Not known
Author Website: Meg's Fanfic
Why this must be read:

Mag7 has all manner of crossovers; there's the usual suspects such as The Sentinel, but this one stood out as being very creative and very well executed. My first thought was that this would be crackfic, but it is so much better than that and fully deserves the award it received. The A-team boys are given the Au treatment to bring them into the Old West on the Mag7 boys. They're still wanted men, but they also have a history with Ezra, and when the two 'teams' are forced together it boils down to trust. As the author herself puts it "Besides the usual action, this is story that concerns Chris and Ezra primarily and that whole trust issue problem."

Title: The Pegasus Galaxy Remix
Pairing: Chris/Lance, Lance/Mckay
Author on LJ: [profile] read_mercutio
Author Website: Verona
Why this must be read: It seems like a lot of popslash crossoves are with SGA, and this is a fine example. The members of NSYNC are stranded on Atlantis, and hijinks ensue.

09:14 pm Stargate: Atlantis/Sherman's March Crossover (NC-17 Overall)
Title: Accidents Happen series by Yin
Pairing: Rodney McKay/Pete Sherman
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] yin_again
Author Website: Not sure--try the author's LJ Memories

Why this must be read:
Fans of Rodney will find this story happy-making, even if they haven't seen Sherman's March. I find it to be a thoroughly enjoyable slash story, and if you aren't a complete OTPer, give this series a try. The first installment in the series is one of the stories posted as part of the Hewliganfest, and it was my favorite.

Accidents Happen (NC-17)
Shelter (NC-17)
Five Futures, coda to: Accidents Happen (PG)

This last part in the storyverse, which I haven't read yet, is a Stargate: Atlantis/Sherman's March/Slings & Arrows crossover. The pairing is Pete Sherman/Geoffrey Tennant, with mentions of Pete Sherman/Rodney McKay

09:31 pm The Mystery of Salt and Sea, by winter baby (PG)
Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Title: The Mystery of Salt and Sea
Pairing: James Norrington, Elizabeth Swann, Jack Sparrow
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] winter_baby
Author Website: none
Why this must be read: There's nothing like pre-Dead Man's Chest Norrington angst, is there? No, there isn't, but this is a delicate, eerie exploration of it, with some wonderful lyricism, and a Norrington I can believe in.

09:57 pm I Hate South America by GM (G)
Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Illya/Napoleon
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Solo Sojourn

Why this must be read:
I thought that this month I'd try to bring attention to some authors that haven't been mentioned much in the past. Gina Martin (gm) is one. By my count she has over 70 stories posted on the web, most of them at Solo Sojourn, and yet she's only been mentioned once on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van.

I picked one of her shorter stories here because I liked her use of banter and the camaraderie between the men -- she captures the tone of the series.

To give you an example:

“HMMPH.” From Kuryakin, the non-verbal noise was an expressive insult. “I don’t trust you.”

Affecting a wounded countenance, Napoleon straightened and placed a palm against his heart. “You wound me, Illya. Your buddy, your long-time partner –“

“A natural born liar,” he shot back mercilessly, blue eyes sharp and narrowed.

“I’m deeply insulted. I was not a born liar, I only perfected the craft when I became a spy.”

Title: Vacation by Astolat
Pairings: Clark/Lex, Tim/Kon
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] astolat
Author Website: Fanfic by Shalott

Why this must be read:
I'm driving the DC van this month as well as the SGA one, so I get to call attention to this sequel to Reconcilable Differences (which was rec'd here). You don't have to read the first, novella-length, story before this one, but it will be much more fun if you do. You'll get the in-jokes and appreciate the events in Vacation more. I chose this story for the humor, the fantastic dialog, and the fact that it gets my favorite DC guys together.

Title: Shore Leave by Selena
Pairing: Bill Adama/Lwaxana Troi
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] selenak
Author Website: Fanfic.net collection
Why this must be read: This was definitely the hardest pick for me as I kept thinking, "one, only one" as I love crossovers. The biggest thing in making a crossover work is successfully blending aspects of both worlds and "Shore Leave" does this brilliantly. Lwaxana Troi finds a stranded Adama, who definitely thinks she's a Cylon. These two connect in many surprising ways from family to jobs and also war. Selena does a great job at offsetting the drama with humor as Adama finds himself in the larger-than-life world of Lwaxana.
