Why this must be read: because as I stated before I love AUs and well-written AUs are my passion and this one hits all my kinks. Tom and Mike meet in a crowded airport in Denver, Colorado and get stranded along with 5,000 other people when bad weather closes the airport down. The immediate attraction they feel for each runs deep, but can it survive the storm and the separation they are going to have to endure once they board their respective flights or will their interlude be just that - a special moment in time never to be repeated?

You will have to discover that for yourself.

Why this must be read:

There are stories about Methos, and there are stories about Adam Pierson, Immortal-disguised-as-Watcher. But I think this is the only story I've read that places Adam in the other role he's chosen for himself, that of an academic surrounded by grad students who know nothing about Immortals, who just live their lives and think they know him after all these years.

Fandom: HIGHLANDER

Why this must be read:

This story had me on the edge of my seat all the way through: secret Watcher codes, great Joe/Methos banter, tangles of lies and misdirection, and a well-written Connor that reminded me he could be a lot scarier than his kinsman...

Connor turned abruptly away and lifted a sealed, bulging garbage bag. He brandished it easily in one hand. "He left suddenly. He didn't clean out his icebox," he accused. He was almost yelling.

Wary, Joe frowned at him. Why was he angry? "I know," Joe replied.

Connor didn't lower the bag. He waited, holding Joe's gaze fiercely.

With sudden insight, Joe recognized the worry in the Highlander's ire. Of course, it didn't look good. An immortal vanishes without a word, without so much as taking out the garbage, or - Joe looked around - replacing the books he'd been reading, or doing his laundry. Joe met the other man's intense gaze and took pity on him. "But I expect him back."

Connor lowered the bag, the tightness in his face relaxing. "Then where is he?" he asked, quietly.

"I really don't know," Joe responded in the same way. Connor quirked him a skeptical eyebrow. Grateful that Connor wasn't forcing the Watcher issue, Joe gave him what he could. They really weren't enemies, he reminded himself. "Everyone's looking for him."

Joe stood to go, hoping he'd be permitted. He didn't care to add to the story. "Do you want me to take the garbage?" Joe offered. "There's no city pickup on the quai."

"There's a strange little friend of Duncan's who said he'd come for it.."

Joe started for the door, relieved that Connor did nothing to stop him. He resented being frightened, and couldn't resist a dig. "That strange little friend has been paying Duncan's wharf fees."

Connor watched him go.

02:19 pm The Bond by JBG PG-13
Fandom: BtVS
Pairing: Giles/Buffy
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author's Website: none, but her stories can be found at The List

Why this must be read: This story and it's sequal deal very well with that mysterious thing known as the Watcher/Slayer bond. What Buffy and Giles have between them is different than a father/daughter thing. And Buffy doesn't need a father, she has one. Which is why their relationship is so hard to define sometimes. But here, Jolene explores the thing that pulls them together, that binds Buffy and Giles in a way that is not father/daughter.

It's fun, romantic and involves all of the cast as well as introducing some clever OCs. There is a sequal, Threefold Cord which deals with Buffy and Giles being parents and how their child will be involved in a future apocalypse. Both are wonderful stories and should be included in any list of Buffy/Giles stories to read.

The Bond (the sequal Threefold Cord is on the same page if you scroll down).

09:51 pm The Great Baseball Prodigy of Caribou Cove by Susanna Starz (PG)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mostly gen, minor Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: n/a

Why this must be read: It's a William fic, about how he discovers his parents and his own role in the coming Colonization. There are several of these around, but this one is definitely my favorite. William's adopted parents are very realistic, likeable people, which you don't always see. William himself is pretty mature, but still recognizably a kid. He also has certain abilities, like telekinesis and seeing ghosts--including who he calls his "dead godfathers", Frohike, Langly, and Byers, who play a major part in the fic--but both the abilities and the roles of the Lone Gunmen and other ghosts are handled very well.

This isn't about Colonization, per se. It's about the events leading up to Colonization as an adult William, the established hero, tells a reporter about his background before he emerged as that hero. It's very well done, and definitely an enjoyable read.
