Fandom: Narnia Pairing: Peter/OMC, Peter/Other Author on LJ: toscas_kissAuthor Website: Tosca's KissWhy this must be read:Peter is my favorite character from the books. I have always loved the idea of being called to a high purpose, which is why fantasy-adventure books litter my bookshelves. Peter, even moreso than his younger siblings, is the High King of Narnia, a boy who becomes a man in charge of a country, a civilization, and the charge of his siblings too. Not easy to carry on even the most stout of shoulders. In "Peter in Love," Tosca explores what it is that makes Peter so capable at being the High King, but she does so from the vantage point of their return to England. Peter, the High King, is only a boy once more, but something in him has fundamentally changed through his experiences, nay, his lifetime spent in Narnia. Some unknown emotion rose, swelling to fullness like a river flooding against its banks. Narnia spread below him, a daydream of lush hills and secluded valleys, dancing streams and whispering forests. Before the blue swathe of the western sea, Cair Paravel glistened like a star, and beside him, even more glorious and radiant, glowed the sun.
He felt as though he were on the edge of a precipice, undecided whether to fall into the endless sky and trust he would be caught, or to step backward onto solid ground. Uncertain, he turned to find Aslan's gaze upon him, patient and yet somehow demanding, unjudging but somehow expectant.
And there sprang up that same sense of belonging he had experienced the first time Aslan had turned that golden regard on him, had first spoken his name in that deep sonorous voice which sounded as church bells, had first laid that heavy velvet paw on his shoulder.

Fandom: Narnia Pairing: Lucy/Caspian Author on LJ: valarltdAuthor Website: websiteWhy this must be read:Dawn Treader leaves the reader at an interesting impasse. We are shown more than told that Lucy and Edmund have grown up too much to be admitted to Narnia again, which leads you to assume that an essential part of that growth took place during the adventure itself. This, combined with the lives the Pevensies lived before, suggests more to the shape of a relationship. In this story, Lucy has fallen in love, a little bit. And she knows more about such things than she lets on. "Why, Lucy. I never saw you make such a fuss. Not over the Beavers or Mr. Tumnus or any of the other Narnia people you loved." What he had said struck Edmund. "You didn't just love Caspian, did you, Lu?" He put a comforting arm around her. "You were in love."
"We were in love, Edmund. Caspian loved me as well. I may be a child here, but in Narnia, I was a queen. I had suitors from Archenland and the Lone Islands."
"And not a one of them good enough for you, Lu." Promise Made, Promise Kept

Fandom: Narnia Pairing: none Author on LJ: kyriaficAuthor Website: websiteWhy this must be read:This was the first fanfiction for Narnia that I ever read, and I still look at it with something akin to awe. In a handful of words, Kyra managed to convey not only a swathe of difficult emotions, but also something inside of myself that had been missing for so many years. She added depth and resonance to a story I knew by heart. She made me want more. So when I rec this story, I rec it with a lot behind it. And I can't rec it enough. Her mother's wardrobe is new wood, light-colored with trendy handles. Completely wrong in all respects, but she finds herself crawling in without meaning to, the first day back. Back to the home which feels very little like one, compared to everything else the word has come to mean. The golden, rugged scent of a thick mane --Girls Grow Quicker Than Books

Sorry for the late entry; I was home sick all day yesterday! Title: The Long Way Around by Christina K. Pairing: Methos/Amanda, briefly Author on LJ: butterflykikiAuthor Website: The Chaos HorizonWhy this must be read:The Doctor's friend introduced himself as Martin, but Jack was pretty certain that wasn't his real name. Largely because the Doctor kept forgetting it, and calling him "Adam" and once or twice slipping into "Ben." By the third drink, the man had given up and said, "Adam's fine, truly. The old man never did have much of a memory."
"I resent that. I remember every single one of the aliases you've used," the Doctor protested. "And possibly some of the ones you haven't used yet."
"There's the problem, then." Adam shook his head sadly, and shared a commiserating look with a giggling Rose. "Always mixing his eras up. Sad. Still, it's not his history, so I suppose we can forgive the incipient senility and absent-mindedness. Pity to see it in someone so young, though."The Long Way Around

Title: Shack #63 by Pares Pairing: Wolverine/Oz Author on LJ: kormanticAuthor Website: The Ska LabWhy this must be read:"Uh. Yeah. Oz. Me werewolf." He actually held his mittened hand out, and Logan just scowled at him until he dropped it. "I came here to hide out for a while. Stay out of the way. Of people."
"I'd ask you to join the club, but there's a membership cap of one. Go squat somewhere else, Rover. I've got things to do."
"But it's gonna be nightfall soon." The kid shifted, the only sign of unease he'd shown since he'd turned up.
"Uh huh. Shove off, kid."
"You don't want me out there. In fact, you don't want to be here so much, either."
"Don't tell me what I want. Just clear out. Or should I throw a stick first?"
"Look. The moon's full tonight. And I'm...a werewolf? It's. Kind of a heavy scene."Shack #63

Fandom: Narnia Pairing: none Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: unknown Why this must be read: This is a lovely coda to Prince Caspian, dealing with Peter and the consequences of his final journey to Narnia. "I think that perhaps," Peter said finally, and if his voice was a bit shaky, we can forgive him, "it was my fault. Maybe if I'd followed Lucy at the beginning instead of leading us the wrong way down the gorge, he'd have let me come back. I doubted him; I doubted her. You were right to side with her from the beginning, Ed - I don't know what I was thinking. No, I do know what I was thinking - I thought that I knew best, and that's why I'm too old to go back." Fandom: Narnia Pairing: none Author on LJ: tartanshellAuthor Website: none Why this must be read:From child to adult back to child again. CS Lewis did his characters a grand favour by letting their Narnian memories fade to black--or did he? Surely the Pevensies must have retained some kind of memory of what it was to be Kings and Queens of Narnia; to be adults. Surely. Since her bed was out of the question, the concept of bedtime itself ridiculous for her, Lucy had taken to wandering about after the others were asleep. She used to love nighttime, when she was a queen. The stars in Narnia were brighter than in England; they sparkled like a scattered handful of jewels across the sky. She had a necklace made of sapphires and diamonds, once, a constellation at her throat.Always Spring and Never Summer (Once a King, Always, Immortal Remix)

Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Donald 'Ducky' Mallard Author on LJ: periwinkle27Author Website: Periwinkle's FanfictionWhy this must be read: Peri is probably better known to some as a superb beta reader rather than a writer, but she is double talented, as Celebration shows. It's a Christmas story, but it isn't not soppy and over-flowing with Christmas goo. It's a lovely story with a mixture of emotions, shows how much Gibbs loves Ducky and what lengths he is prepared to go to in order to keep his beloved happy. There is also a lot of flawless humour in the story, Peri writes humour exceptionally well; a drunk Jimmy, and a visit by Fornell; friendship; affection; romance; plus a very hot bath scene involving Gibbs and Ducky. Fandom:THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim and Blair Author on LJ: Unknown Author website: Wesv's cat HouseWhy this must be read: A bizarre series of murder-suicides draw Jim and Blair into investigating a hundred year old murder that has strange and serious repercussions for their relationship. Half an hour later, Jim turned the truck into the driveway of the Radcliff house, his headlights illuminating the rear-end of Blair's Volvo. He frowned and got out of the truck, slamming the door. He made his way up to the house. The yellow police tape on the front door was unbroken. The garden was where Jim had found him earlier when he disappeared. He circled the house and stepped over the broken-down fence. As he came out of the clump of overgrown bushes into the garden itself he froze, his heart in his throat.
"Laid out all nice on a bed of flower petals. You think he's just sleeping," he quoted from his strange dream. He forced himself to take another step towards the nightmarish scene before him. Blair was there, still and silent, lying in a bed of flower petals in the middle of the garden. Jim swallowed in an attempt to get his heart back where it was supposed to be so that he could talk. "Blair?" No answer came. "Blair? Answer me, damn it." Still no answer and Jim's temper took over. He stomped quickly over to his Guide and grabbed him by the shoulders, shaking him hard. "Sandburg! What the hell do you think you're doing?!"
Blair's arms came up in a weak attempt at self-defense. "What?" the younger man asked sleepily.
Jim tapped him on his cheek. "Wake up Sandburg. What the hell are you doing here?"
"I live here.."Very angsty and very dark; an interesting case story with a powerful mystic theme. If you're looking for a tale with reincarnation, ghostly possession and murder from beyond the grave, this is the story for you. (o: Soul Shadows; part one, part two, part three, part four.

Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Pairing: Chris/Vin Author on lj: travellerAuthor on website: Cee at Mag Seven Slash Why this must be read: A story told in five vignettes, short but powerful. I love this characterization of Vin and Chris, this unusual take on their relationship: there is so much need and so many things going on under the surface. Also, the author writes a beautiful prose, raw and intense. ( It wasn't going to change anything. )Read: Hallelujah

Fandom: due South Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio Author on LJ: N/A Author Website: N/A Why this must be read: This is a short fic but it packs a lot in. It;s a simple concept whilst sitting next to Ray in the Riv Fraser finds himself thinking about Ray. It's a lovely Fraser POV and you can hear his voice clearly. It also has two of my favourite elements - a Riv moment and a description of a routine between friends. It has a sequel Thinking II but this is lovely on it's own. ( Extract )Thinking
