12:23 am Moved By Silent Hands by Painted Eyes (PG-13)
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Characters:Vin, Chris - The Seven
Author on lj: Unknown
Author on website: Painted Eyes at Lady Angel’s Library

Why this must be read: This long, complex story is one that will get to you since the first word. When talking of this story I often say that it’s not even important for you to have watched the show to enjoy it. This story is epic. The Seven move in a world that is changing, where cowboys and gunslingers, scoundrels and con men are becoming romantic anachronism. The author weaves in it, beautifully and heartbreakingly, the History of the People, historical figure like Crazy Horse, the tragic destiny of the proud Lakota. The characterization is sublime, the plot gripping. I don’t think there are words good enough to praise this story, the only advice I can give you is to read it.

Vin wondered how he could pull one thread out of the complicated loom of his past, and now the shaping pattern of his future, that would be enough to make Chris understand why he would lie to him now  )

02:15 am There's No Place Like Home by Nicole D'Annais (NC-17)
Fandom: STAR WARS: TPM
Characters:Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Author on lj: ?
Author on website: At MasterApprentice
Why this must be read: It's a different look on Qui-Gon and by proxy Obi-Wan.
I know that Jedi have no ties with family, but I cannot help wishing that there was more we could learn about them, how they came to be what was their life before being Jedi (if such a thing existed, since they had to go to the Temple as babies).

I also love the outwordliness of the rituals that people in Qui-Gon's planet seem to have, it's a quirk, I admit, wanting to learn new things and "traditions". This is a heartfelt try to make you see something different in the background, yes Qui-Gon is all that we know him to be, but none said that people from his planet have to be nice as well!

02:34 am The Waking by Anne Carr and Emrin Alexander (NC-17)
Fandom: STAR WARS: TPM
Characters:Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Author on lj: ?
Author on website: Fiction by Emrin and Annie
Why this must be read: It's moving, emotional and a lovely character study. I adore the way Emrin and Annie have decided to portray both characters in this story.

When Obi-Wan is severely injured, Qui-Gon goes through his former apprentice's collection of rocks and discovers that he may not know him as well as he thought.
if you have come across another story that mentions rocks and didn't get (it's an injoke) then this is the perfect story to help understand the fascination quite a few of the writers seem to have with rocks LOL

And last but not least :)
This is my last rec for March and I do apologise for being a spoilsport and not reccing more, but RL is always like that, the moment you want to do something interesting it just gangs up on you *sigh*

Fandom: STAR WARS: TPM
Characters:Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi, sort of
Author on lj: ?
Author on website: At MasterApprentice
Why this must be read: I almost forgot this story existed, shame on me! :)

It's a slave story!
Emm, well not really.
It's a virtual reality story! Probably.
It's a "Qui-Gon has a fantasy that might come true at some point". So true :)

And since it is written by 2 lovely ladies that manage to make people sweat even when it's snowing outside, trust me when I tell you that this is hot! :)

Okay, when I said that last story was the last story? Not true. This is the last story for the month :)

Fandom: STAR WARS: TPM

Why this must be read: It's another Wheel of If spin off and soooooo much fun! It had me wishing things like this could happen for real in tv (except Sentinel and Due south where they happened in bloopers, LOL)

Taken from the author's note:

Follows Wheel of If part 16
What happened to Will Leeson and Ian McLawson, and their series,Heroes of the Galaxy, after our Obi-Wan blinked out to further travels in the Wheel.
I don't think anybody could possibly mistake Mr. Leeson and Mr. McLawson for anyone other than their universe's Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, but just to be safe: Mr. Leeson and Mr. McLawson are their universe's Qui and Obi. They bear absolutely no resemblence to anyone else in thought, word, deed or appearance.

Think Jedi in tight jeans.

04:38 am A Pair of Cuff Links by C.W.W. (G)
Hi, I'm the designated driver for Man from U.N.C.L.E. this April (the month, not the red head). I love all kinds of muncle fanfic, so this month's theme (for what is life without a theme?) is time. I'll begin with some of my favourite glimpses into the past. First, our Chief Enforcement Agent, Napoleon Solo. . .

Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] st_crispins
Author Website: St. Crispin's Day Society
Why this must be read:

Because in a short vignette, C.W.W. has taken the few shreds of canon provided and created a fully realized and wholly believable past for Napoleon. I envy her concise way with words and her emotionally resonant characterizations. If you've missed some of the recent postings on [livejournal.com profile] muncle, you're in for a special treat.

I'm driving the van for Highlander this month, and thought I would start off with a lighter Highlander story.

Fandom: HIGHLANDER: THE SERIES
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: N/A, as far as I am aware.
Author Website: Scorpio’s Constellations.
Why this must be read:

This is a great story set immediately after Methos takes Kristen’s head in Chivalry. It shows that Methos really doesn’t take Quickenings well at all. The madness that ensues is funny.

An excerpt is beneath the cut. )

08:28 am No Little Charity by Perspi (PG-13)
And now for something completely a little different.

Hiya. [livejournal.com profile] bironic here, taking the wheel for HOUSE M.D. from the capable hands of [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu. The theme for most of this month's recs is 'stories that do something slightly out of the ordinary.' I'll be picking out fics that use unusual structure or narrative techniques, take a unique angle, tackle topics you don't see much in the fandom, and/or have a little sci fi or fantasy sprinkled in. There'll be lots of House/Wilson friendship and slash, because that's what I read most.

First up:

Fandom: HOUSE M.D.
Pairing: House/Wilson friendship
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] perspi
Author Website: By tag on LJ

Why this must be read: You know how they say great science fiction and fantasy sheds light on who we are here and now and what it means to be human? [livejournal.com profile] perspi's "No Little Charity" uses just a smidgen of whimsy—Wilson learns a magic spell that allows him to take on House's pain—to hold a lens up to a very real House and Wilson and their complex friendship. Details behind the cut. )

P.S. In the interest of full disclosure, I helped beta this gem.

12:07 pm Absence and Memory by meddow (PG)
Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Pairing: Elizabeth Swann/James Norrington
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] meddow
Author Website: Fanfiction Masterlist on LJ
Why this must be read: I adore the pairing of Elizabeth Swann and James Norrington—and I love what fanfic authors do with it even more. In “Absence and Memory,” [livejournal.com profile] meddow writes two prequels—one to Curse of the Black Pearl and one to Dead Man’s Chest. Although these could easily be two separate tales, the author intertwines them in such a way that reflects the nonlinear nature of memory. In [livejournal.com profile] meddow’s lyrical, sensual prose, Elizabeth struggles to understand James—something she only accomplishes in his absence.

I also admire the author’s depiction of Governor Swann, a character often overlooked in the drive towards romantic pairings. Here, he’s warm and insightful, yet clever and resolute.

This is one of those stories which has entered into my personal fanon. I can’t imagine James without the character trait [livejournal.com profile] meddow reveals at the end—and mourn it as something else lost in the hurricane.

Fandom: HIKARU NO GO
Pairing: Shindou/Touya
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden
Author Website: None, but you can find more in her memories.
Why this fic must be read:

Because it's the Hoyden, and it's sweet without being saccharine. It leaves with you a warm feeling of "Yes. Like that."

04:35 pm Rumplestiltskin by Mylodon (PG)
Hey, everyone!  I'm [personal profile] iansmomesq, and I'll be the driver for the Horatio Hornblower fandom for the month of April.  It's been a banner few months for this fandom, and I hope to share some of the cool stuff that came out of some great challenges and prompt communities of late.  So, sit back, buckle in (or not) and enjoy the ride.

Happy Hornblower Appreciation Week!!!

****************************

Fandom:  HORATIO HORNBLOWER
Pairing:  Hornblower/Edrington
Author on LJ:  [personal profile] mylodon
Author's website Mylodon's LJ

Why this must be read:  Mylodon wrote this for the very first challenge at [profile] aos_challenge.  The prompt was "confessions."  Many of us in the fandom have always wondered what Major My Lord Edrington's first name *really* is.  Some call him Alexander, some call him Daniel.  Others just call him Major My Lord and let the title do the talking.  Here, Mylodon matched a drunken Hornblower with Edrington in a challenge of wits to guess Edrington's real name.  Hilarity and *cough* other things ensue.  You can see from the first comment that I had the gigglefits when I read this, and giving me the giggles is not an easy thing to do.  Most of the time.

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] embroiderama, the driver for The Sentinel this month. I'm looking forward to recommending a mix of slash and gen stories, mostly older favorites but some more recent stories, too.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: quercus/Lemon Drop
Why this must be read: It's a gorgeous atmospheric story that deals with deep emotional issues in a surprising mellow way. In the aftermath of a traumatic case, Jim and Blair spend Thanksgiving at an old house out in the country. They experience a strange bit of magic there that brings them closer together.

Hi folks, my name is Mara and I'll be driving the Torchwood SUV this month. I plan to rec a variety of fic, including gen, het, and slash.

Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Jack Harkness/Ianto Jones
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek
Author Website: The Geekdom
Why this must be read:

Because oh god, this story is haunting and beautiful and manages to make sense of the rapid changes in how Jack and Ianto deal with each other in the middle of the season. It deals especially well with the tricky issue of Ianto and Lisa, in a way that...well, just read it. This is easily one of the best stories in the fandom, and I can't think of any better way to begin my recs than with this.

Hey y'all, I'm [livejournal.com profile] severuslovesme and I'll be driving the X-Files van this month. I have a weakness for humor and MSR, so expect both of those things to make a frequent appearance.

Fandom: X-Files
Pairing: Mulder/Scully undertones
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun
Author Website: The Underground
Why this must be read:

This is body swap fic at its best, and it's hilarious to boot. Punk capitalizes on the humor and ridiculousness inherent in the situation to great effect. Basically nothing I say can do it justice, so here's an excerpt.

She sits down next to him and chews on her ragged cuticle.
Mulder's teeth aren't as sharp as hers and it takes a while to
find the right combination of incisor and canine.

"Scully!"

She spits out a chunk of skin. "God you talk a lot. What is it
now?"

"Stop it!" he says, pulling her hand away from her mouth.
"Those are *my* fingers you're chewing on."

He's right of course, except she'd been thinking of them as
*her* fingers, but she didn't even put her own original fingers
in her mouth. That's what nail scissors were for. Mulder,
though, she couldn't count the times she'd caught him gnawing
away at a hangnail.

"I don't see what difference it makes. It's your mouth and your
hand. It's not like I'm sucking your fingers. I mean mine.
Whatever."

Mulder flushes and grabs her forearm. "That's just it, Scully.
I was totally repulsed from watching that. It's like this body
has its own ideas separate from those I brought with me. I'm
Mulder, but it's obvious there's some Scully left in here with
me."
