04:11 am “Five Jobs That Never Got Finished,” by guede_mazaka (R)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] guede_mazaka
Author Website: Tangible Schizophrenia
Why this must be read:

If you like guns, magic, and outlawry, read [livejournal.com profile] guede_mazaka; she likes them too. I found her through various Johnny Depp–related fandoms (Once upon a Time in Mexico, PotC, Sleepy Hollow), but I knew that sooner or later she’d have to write about the Winchester boys, because…well, re-read that first sentence.

Here, she applies the “five things” meme to season one. Warning: even by the standards of this author and this fandom, this is a dark piece of work.
He just keeps driving and driving. The sky never gets any darker or any lighter—just stays bloody. Sam gets used to it. He gets used to it, to the cramp in his pedal foot, the ice in his chest, the tightness of the muscles around his jaw and eyes, and soon he doesn’t even notice it. Soon he glances over at the passenger seat and someone’s there and it seems like they’ve always been there.

“Been waiting a long, long time for you, Sammy,” they say.

Read it at her journal or at her website.

04:28 am “A Little Superstitious Now,” by estrella30 (NC-17)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] estrella30
Author Website: http://www.estrella.mediawood.net/
Why this must be read:

[livejournal.com profile] estrella30 is the person who pimped me into Supernatural. She kept raving about this show on the WB about these guys who, like, drive across the country chasing ghosts with shotguns or something, and after a lot of eyerolling I tuned in to see what the fuss was about and OMG HAWT.

Naturally, I then started working through her SPN stories, including her take on a fanfic cliché:
‘Dean,’ Sam moaned. ‘We switched bodies.’ )

One of the great things about this fandom is that its entirely possible that this premise will eventually become canon (and the prospect of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles imitating each other fills me with glee). Sadly, though, if/when they do film it, they probably won’t include this bit:
The bathroom was tiny and still steamy and warm from Sam's shower. )

Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: None, although there is porniness (of sorts)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] odditycollector
Author Website: Author's LJ Memories
Why this must be read:

I don't want to give much away for this one. So, I'll just say that if you're at all familiar with the original Green Lantern -- on even just the most basic level -- you will almost certainly enjoy this tale of a group of criminals who make a slight, ah, misinterpretation.

08:18 am Man With a (Fucking Fantastic) Plan by Etben (NC-17)
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio/Kowalski
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] etben
Author Website: Etben's Memories on LJ

Why this must be read:

One of my favorite things about dS is that it gave us three absolutely fantastic main characters, each complex and compelling and flawed and utterly delightful in his own way. My love for all three of these boys knows no bounds. So I chose this for my final rec because when an author gets them, all three of them, and writes them in a way that illustrates how amazing they all are individually, how well they work in various combinations of two, and then how triply amazing they are all together… not a lot in the fic world makes me happier than that. On top of that, I have a massive soft spot for the Rays taking care of Fraser, and Etben's Kowalski POV is a joy (which is hard; I think Kowalski is the hardest one of the three of them to get right), and the sex is scorching hot. There aren't many threesomes that I can really see working, but this is definitely one, and this fic is a shining example of how and why.

04:32 pm The Wages of Sin/Angie, by Derry (PG-13)
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: gen
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Black Raptor listing
Why this must be read:

One of Ezra's most endearing characteristics is his rapport with children and Derry creates a real charmer who wraps him around her little finger. This is a story with heart-in-your-throat action and a heart-warming core that explores a surprising, yet utterly authentic, side of our favorite conman.

In 'Angie' Derry takes the central plot ideas from 'The Wages of Sin' and transposes them to the ATF Alternate Universe. It's interesting to see how much the different parameters of the two Universes affect how the story must be played out. It's recognizable, but different enough to be read as a story in its own right.

Both 'The Wages of Sin' and 'Angie' have sequels that are must reads.

Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Harry Potter/Severus Snape
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dementordelta
Author Website: DementorDelta's Skyehawke Page; Serpensortia

Why this must be read:
I love this sweet AU novella in which Snape finds a bottle with a genie in it: Hahree. *g* The fairy tale elements blend believably with the wizarding world, and I was sucked into this story immediately. It's one that AU fans will really appreciate.

06:27 pm In The Mind's Eye by Creed Cascade [NC17]
Fandom: TOUR OF DUTY
Pairing: The whole platoon!
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] creedcascade
Author website: Notes From the Underground, Open Air Insane Asylum

Why this is a must read:

One of my favorites, Creed created an A/U that I actually liked. She really thought outside the box when she came up with this universe where all the men are bonded in pairs. Her idea was based on a band of homosexual warriors similar to the "Sacred Band of Thebes." Sergeant Zeke Anderson has recently lost his bonded partner. He's hoping to rebond with Lieutenant John McKay, but all that gets turned upside down when Zeke sees Lieutenant Myron Goldman for the first time.

It's wonderfully different and engaging and you get sucked into the whole premise immediately whether you intend to or not. It's a science fiction story, yet still very much grounded in the feel of Vietnam. And although Creed has tossed the canon universe of the series out the window, the characters are still very recognizable and believable.

Zeke shook his head and blinked, still finding it hard to feel, let alone control his body. He shifted and focused his eyes, only mildly shocked to see a body curled around him. He reached a shaky hand over and tilted the head up that was nestled against his shoulder. It was the boy from the fight earlier. Zeke ran his hand over the boy's cheek, the contact sending waves of pleasure through the bond. This felt so right. "It's him, ain't it?" Zeke murmured quietly. "My brown eyed dream. Tell me what happened."

"No… I need you to tell me," Johnny insisted. "You're bonded again, aren't you?"

"Feels like it," Zeke said distractedly. He was still engrossed in exploring the face of his sleeping bed partner. He remembered this feeling of comfort with Rusty, thinking he'd never feel this way again.

07:52 pm Everybody's Fool by Cluegirl (NC-17)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairings: Harry Potter/Severus Snape; mention of past Harry/Draco and Harry/Ron
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl
Author Website: Soulgarden

Why this must be read:
This long, well-paced anti-romance is the best Harry/Snape I've come across in quite a while, which is why I am choosing it as my final offereing this month. I recommend this story whole-heartedly if you don't mind an unredeemed Draco. (I know how people can be about their OTCs...)

The reasons to read this include the wealth of magical detail and the angst that is leavened by the almost cozy yet still antagonistically in-character Snape/Harry interaction. The Harry in this piece is very likeable, and his innate goodness shines.

Why this must be read: This fic is brand new - it was posted only two days ago, and I think I've read it four times already. It's a future-fic, of a sort. Femme's characterization is great, and her porn is ever better. ;)

Fandom: MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE RPS
Pairing: Frank/Gerard
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] one900/[livejournal.com profile] radiotape
Author Website: writing journal
Why this must be read: This fic is one of the best pieces of fiction I've ever read. Not just fanfiction, any kind of fiction. It's an AU - a mob AU. The characterization (always important in an AU) is fantastic, the dialogue is excellent, the pacing is great - I could talk about how wonderful this fic is all day long. Why don't you go read it instead?

11:26 pm The Long Way Home, by Jean Graham (PG-13)
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Magnifiction
Why this must be read:

I've saved a favorite to end the month. As you may have guessed, I'm an action and adventure sort of gal, and Jean Graham is a master of breath-taking action, long odds, and near misses, delivered with emotional power.

In this World War II AU the Seven are the crew of a B-17 Flying Fortress. In 'The Long Way Home' Chris, Buck, and Ezra are on a special mission to drop an operative behind enemy lines. A milk run... until they are shot down on the return flight and Chris is captured by the Germans. Old traumas and fresh bullets hamper their struggle to reach freedom. Meanwhile, the rest of the crew waits at their base in Bassingbourn, England with diminishing hope.

Quick Driver's Note: This will be the last fic I recommend this month and I hope that everyone enjoyed reading the stories I suggested as much as I enjoyed suggesting them. *bows out*

**************************************

Fandom: X-MEN MOVIEVERSE
Pairing: Rogue centric, with mentions of Rogue/Bobby and Rogue/Logan
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] musamea
Author Website: A M O U S A
Why this must be read:

Sometimes you have to make a choice where you will forever regret the consequences, no matter what decision you make. This story takes Rogue's decision at the end of X-3 and examines it, giving it depth and heart and soul. It finds these attributes in Rogue as well, showing the readers a woman who is tired of just taking what life throws at her.

Rogue's decision, good or bad, is hers and she has to live with it, even when things don't go quite as planned.

[livejournal.com profile] musamea's writing is as gorgeous as ever and I was utterly entranced by this fic and found myself torn between admiration and jealousy for the writer, and empathy and appreciation for Rogue.

Read this one! I promise you won't be disappointed.

Author's Summary: Funerals are never the end of it. Neither are cures. Five scenes on what comes after.
