04:22 am Somewhere in the Arabian Sea by Red Star Robot (not rated - Gish?)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none/gen - Aeryn Sun, Stark
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] redstarrobot
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

The relationship between Aeryn & Stark is largely unexplored in Farscape canon, though they have experienced the most intense grief and loss of their lives in each other's company. In RSR's story, they are both seeking - how to move forward with their lives, which choices to make, which path is the right course. They are gentle with one another, beginning to heal with a stoic acceptance and the lingering hope that one day they will regain a measure of joy. [set late season 4, spoilers for 3.04, Self-Inflicted Wounds: Wait for the Wheel & beyond]

Hello, I'm [livejournal.com profile] babel and I'm taking the rusty old Star Trek: Deep Space Nine van out for a spin this month. I enjoy a variety of characters and pairings, but I do prefer the Cardassian and Bajoran characters.

Fandom: STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: Kira/Intendant
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mazily
Author Website: circlegirl.com
Why this must be read: A very interesting look at what Kira/Intendant might be like; hot, wrong, dangerous, beautiful. The language used is extremely vivid, and it's the sort of story that will stay with you for a while.

05:49 pm "Seasons" series, by leonidaslion (R)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] leonidaslion
Author's website: n/a

Why this must be read:
Parsing characters through seasonal attributes is a classic analytic framework, though not seen all that often in fanfiction. Leonidaslion writes one piece each for Dean, Sam, and John, but instead of assigning them each one corresponding season, we see them through all four. The patterns of how they struggle or rejoice, come together or oppose each other, love or mourn their way through the years make a simple but powerful cycle of their lives.

The language is packed full of the sight, sound, and feel of the seasons, but never over-ornate or flowery, and adjusted accordingly for each Winchester: Dean's story shorter, straight-forward, visceral; Sam's wordier, more metaphorical, more conflicted; and John's longest of all, full of years and regrets, and dreams that are distant memories.

Seasons: Dean
Seasons: Sam
Seasons: John
