07:12 am Star Wars/Atlantis (PG)
Fandom: STAR WARS/ATLANTIS

Title: The Dark Side by Astolat
Pairing: John/Rodney
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] astolat
Author Website: Fanfic by Shalot

Why this must be read: I have very high standards for crossovers. Both fandoms must be handled well, and the crossover mechanism must be both intrinsic to the story/universe and not cheesy. Star Wars is one of the hardest fandoms to successfully crossover, imho, simply because it has no connection with any other frame of reference that another fandom might be using.

This crossover works.

[livejournal.com profile] astolat has taken the characters of Atlantis and made them SW characters with amazing success. And if you don't think Rodney could be a plausible Jedi without a lot of changes to his character ... read this and think again. This story has all the McShep snarkiness, plus all the Star Wars mysticism, and it is a gem to read.

Title: "Gonna Teach You Tricks That'll Blow Your Mind" by immoralilly
Pairing: Ianto/Sam
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] immoralilly
Author Website: None
Why this must be read:

Well, I have to admit I never thought about this pairing before I read the story. And even when I saw that fic I couldn’t imagine that it would work. But it does. It does.

Sam suddenly appears at Torchwood, the team reacts in their usual way (and very in character) and things get a little crazy. Very funny and some great banter. And Sam and Ianto make a better pairing than I expected.

Title: Vaster Than Empires by [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2
Pairing: Zhaan/Jabe
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2
Author Website: other fic in memories here
Why this must be read:

Most of the Farscape-crossover recs so far have been Farscape/Firefly (and there's nothing wrong with that! *g*) - I went round and round trying to choose something different, waffling between a few FS/Stargate fics until I came across this unique story.

Astro has a deft and gentle touch with these two distinctive characters; the tone of the fic balances bittersweet with hope. There isn't much femslash in Farscape, so to find such a delicate and sensual story closely linked to canon is a rarity to be celebrated.

Set post-3.04 Self-Inflicted Wounds: Wait for the Wheel for Farscape and just prior to 1.02 The End of the World for Doctor Who (Nine).

05:30 pm NCIS/Man from UNCLE/Hustle (R)
Contrapositive by Evan Nicholas (R)
Fandom: NCIS/Man from UNCLE/Hustle
Pairing: To quote the author..."Umm...
characters-played-by-David-McCallum/characters-played-by-Robert-Vaughn, and characters-played-by-David-McCallum/Gibbs. Does that make sense? Jolly good."
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] evan_nicholas
Author Website:
Why this must be read:

Given the fact that NCIS shares an actor with Man from UNCLE (David McCallum), this might seem like cheating. Heck, there are a number of "Ducky and Illya are the same person!" fics out there. Even so, none I have read have been this good.

The story is deceptively simple - Napoleon, (who has been living in London, now called 'Albert Stroller' and surrounding himself with a 'family' just like Ducky/Illya has in D.C., of con-artists who fleece the sort of nasty people he and Illya would have 'dealt' with in their younger days) looks up his old friend/lover in D.C. Gibbs 'accidentally' overhears the conversation and jumps to the wrong conclusions... not to mention having grave suspicions about this 'old friend' of Ducky's.

Cue bittersweet reunions, jumped to conclusions and wonderful character voices. The canon is a bit hinky (as the author, himself, admits) but it's not a bother.

[livejournal.com profile] evan_nicholas has already been rec'ced before for his Man From UNCLE work (including a rec for this month too) and I'm so damn pleased that he's writing in NCIS too.

If you've ever wondered what happened to these two spies after the affair(s) ended... this is the kind of happy ending they deserve.

09:45 pm Supernatural/American Gods (PG-13)
A trifle late, but if the sun hasn't risen yet, it's still the day before, right?

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL/AMERICAN GODS
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing
Author's website: none - all fic memoried here

Why this must be read:
Lyra has this habit of writing amazing stories that leave you just wordlessly flailing, and Supernatural's world is perfectly suited to mesh with Neil Gaiman's mythos. Combine these two principles and you get "Dust in the Wind," a story of gods and myths, of the spirits and stories that make a land what it is, and how legends grow into something larger.

It comes with the added benefit of not needing to know the American Gods canon in order to enjoy the story - most everything you need you can pick up on the way.

Most of all, if ever a perfect ending for Sam and Dean could be imagined, this would be it. There's a a fundamental rightness in this story; a pure, elemental joy that sets into your bones and sparks alight at the last lines. Some roads never end and some stories only grow in the telling. This is how it should be for them.
