Fandom:NCIS
Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock
Author Website: Glitterati
Why this must be read:

In my last post, I recommended a story that looked at the Gibbs/DiNozzo relationship, from Gibbs' pov. Now it's Tony's turn;)

[livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock is a recent convert to NCIS (One occassionally wonders if the Dark Side should use Messers Harmon and Weatherly as recruitment tools - they'd be far more effective than mere cookies;)) but like with her Stargate Atlantis work (yes, she wrote 'Ladies night at the Boom Boom Room'), she groks the dynamic between these two beautifully.

If nothing else, the opening line not only is laugh out loud funny but so painfully accurate where these two are concerned. I could say, but I won't - don't want to spoil this lovely little vingette.

07:36 pm Good Fertilizer by Jane Jinn (G)
Fandom: STAR WARS (EXTENDED UNIVERSE)
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: none known
Author Website: Jane Jinn's site or you can find her Star Wars fic at TheForce.net Archive
Why this must be read:

Star Wars canon has a lot of holes, inconsistencies, and things that just plain don't make sense, particularly if you take in the Extended Universe. Jane Jinn takes one of these holes, and makes it into something so completely right for the universe it's hard to imagine it not being part of canon.

In the YA series about a young Obi-Wan Kenobi, we learn that those children who are not chosen to be apprenticed by the time they're 13 get sent to the Agricultural Corps, to be farmers for the rest of their lives. These children, who've been trained as Jedi all their lives (and that must be some expensive training), get put on ships taking them out to AgriCorps planets in nothing but the clothes they stand up in, all alone for the first time in their lives. It seems like such a waste of material, if nothing else. Why? Why would the Jedi do that?

This story is an answer. It's not about failing to be a Jedi. It's about life, and living, and serving in a way that's different from, but no less important than, the service of the Jedi.

08:27 pm Love's Mysteries by Pat Nussman (PG-13)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Han/Leia
Author on LJ: none known
Author Website: Some of her SW fic is archived at The Corellian Embassy, but there is no search-by-author function there and she has no website that I know of. Her non-SW fic can be found here.
Why this must be read:

There are a lot of stories that look at Han and Leia's relationship arc throughout the Empire Strikes Back, particularly ones that fill in just what all happened on the trip from Hoth to Bespin. This is one of the best. It shows Leia and Han in all their complexities, and it manages to flesh out Chewie and General Riekan nicely.

The Star Wars fandom's been around for a long time, since before the internet. Print zines (fanzines) were the primary means of sharing fanfic at the time the movies first came out, and for many years thereafter. Some excellent fic was printed that way, though it can be hard to find online, and I would be remiss if I ignored them while driving this van.

First published in Kessel Run #2 (1982), Love's Mysteries is a classsic. (Yes, despite its cheezy title.) It was even reprinted (in Alliance and Empire #2 in 1994), an honor few stories merit. Note that it was written before Return of the Jedi came out.

08:45 pm All She Wasn’t and All She Was by PhilLeeGirl (R)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Gibbs/Abby/Ducky
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] philleegirl
Author Website: None noted
Why this must be read:

If there is one thing that NCIS has in abundance, it's chemistry. Yes, some pairings are more popular than others, true, but in all honesty... However cracky the pairing might sound in theory, the evidence is more than likely to be on the screen to support it.

Which leads me to this beautiful little vingette. I can only think of one other author ([livejournal.com profile] wiccagirl24 whose story 'Redefining Family' has already been rec'ed here), who also write this threesome. Okay, it might not be as... asthetically pleasing as some other in this fandom but for me... it rings so damn true.

In this little story, [livejournal.com profile] philleegirl writes Abby so clearly, using 200 words to clearly illustrate the love and tenderness that she has for and shares with her two colleages. Despite the rating, it's not explicit but the deep emotion expressed linger for hours after reading.
