Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: Wilson/Robin, House/Robin, House/Wilson UST
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] daasgrrl
Author Website: memories
Why this must be read:

The third season episode "Airborne" introduced us to a character named Robin who inspired many House viewers in many deliciously dirty ways. [livejournal.com profile] daasgrrl is always amazing; with this story she features one of my near-bulletproof kinks, and she does it toe-curlingly well. I like my porn, people, and this one really hits the spot ;)

02:05 am Said the Spider by Fialka (PG-ish)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: none/gen - Aeryn Sun, Scorpius
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fialka
Author Website: The Candybox
Why this must be read:

From day one, the relationship between Aeryn Sun and John Crichton was always complicated; and never more so than during the bleak, angst-ridden first half of season four. Fialka's dark fairy-tale appropriates characters from nursery rhyme, fits them effortlessly with new symbolism and weaves around them a story of desperation, fear, and betrayal.

Fi's story builds on the events of 4.05 Promises and 4.07 John Quixote in a richly textured, complex fic full of obsession, manipulation and nuance - until the final few lines deliver a jaw-dropping coup de grâce.

02:45 am Every Sparrow Falling by Alloway (PG)
Fandom: X-FILES
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: Again, sadly, I haven't been able to find anything.
Author Website: Alloway's Gossamer Page
Why this must be read: Alloway is best known for "All the Mulders," a fic that is almost requisite reading upon entering the XF fandom (and which has already been recced here), but "Every Sparrow Falling" is equally as brilliant and worthy of recognition.

This is a story about evil and madness, about a siren's call that only Mulder can hear; it is about carnivals, mechanical birds, and insanity that transforms into something both beautiful and horrible.  The prose is remarkable; the transitions between passages are perfect, lending what could have been a disjointed tale a sense of unity and poetic resonance.  Mulder and Scully remain wonderfully true to character throughout, and the ending will leave you utterly haunted (multiple re-reads are almost a necessity).  An amazing piece of fiction.

This link will take you to Alloway's page at Gossamer.  "Every Sparrow Falling" is the second story listed.

08:46 am Unforseen by Kellie Matthews (NC-17)
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Author on LJ: [personal profile] kelliem
Author Website: http://kellie.mrks.org/
Why this must be read:

A quietly plausible, wonderfully gritty and realistic first time set during the post-CotW adventure. Features platonic bed-sharing, gay birds (yes, they do exist), Fraser flirting (!), and Ray being denser than lead. Heh. Good stuff:)

08:49 am The Bar AU by Starfish (NC-17)
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Author on LJ: [profile] the_star_fish
Author Website: http://starfish.mrks.org/
Why this must be read:

I squealed in an embarrassing manner when I realized that this trilogy hadn't been recced yet. It's one of my favorites by Starfish and definitely worth a look, even if you're just a casual DS fan.

This AU series has only made a couple of changes from canon, but they had big consequences. After killing Gerard (rather than injuring him as he did in canon), Fraser resigned from the RCMP and started eking out a hard, minimal existance working on fishing boats. Meanwhile, Ray K is severely injured in the line of duty and never takes over for Ray V. Instead, he opens a bar. Guess who walks in.

Intriguing backstories, spot-on characterization, and clean writing elevate this trilogy above the common AU. If nothing else, read it for the dark (but still completely in character) Fraser.

10:15 am Krenzik's War by Manipulator (T)
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003
Pairing: Jay Krenzik/Diana Thalyka (OMC/OFC)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] themanipulator
Author Website: Manipulator’s fan fic on ff.net
Why this must be read:

Krenzik’s War follows Jay Krenzik, a mechanic aboard the freighter Lady of Libron II, from the day the Cylons attacked through all of season one. The link below is to the first part of this eight-part fic and from the very first, the author gives us a richly detailed and believable look at the workings of the civilian side of the fleet. Krenzik’s War doesn’t follow any of the canon characters of the show, but they do make appearances in each “episode” of this fic and its sequels, Shadows and Reflections (written with ViperChickKaliyla) and Krenzik’s War II. In my humble opinion, this is what the BSG novels that have been published should have been.

Jay Krenzik grows and changes over time and you come to care for him and his crewmen as they become more deeply embroiled in the inner workings of the fleet, through dealings both legitimate and illicit. We see the major events of each episode of the first season filtered through Jay’s experiences and beliefs, including the misperceptions that an outsider can have in regard to politics and military policy.

Krenzik’s War (and its sequels) is a microcosm of the larger BSG universe and gives us a better insight into the lives of the “rag tag fleet” under Galactica’s protection and it is well worth the read.

Fandom: Smallville
Pairing: Clark/Lana (don't judge me, damn you!)
Author on LJ [livejournal.com profile] toomuchplor
Author Website: Smallville Fic Tag
Why this must be read: A beautiful character study piece of Chloe as given to you around her part in the Clark/Lana post high school relationship. It's humorous as it is painful in showing the decline of a relationship and how it effects not only the couple, but their friends in the middle of it all.

I'm not a Clana fan (AT ALL), but this story actually made me feel sad for end of Clana by the last sentence.

Author's Synopsis Chloe will always want to know everything about everything.

11:38 am Paranoia by Francesca (NC17)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim and Blair
Author on LJ: cesperanza (LJ resolutely refuses to accept this user name for some reason.)
Author's Website:
Francesca's Sentinel Fiction

Why this must be read:
I hesitated before posting another story from this writer who's been recc'd so many times before, but this is so delicious I couldn't help myself.

Francesca opens the story with an apology; 'a charming throwback to my earlier style.' I have no idea why - I love this story, i think it's one of her best.

Jim starts to realise that Blair's constant trips to ER have roots in something more sinister than simple 'trouble magnestism'.

A great story and the slash is white hot!

02:02 pm When the Lights Go On Again by penknife (NC-17)
Fandom: STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: Garak/Bashir-ish, Garak/Prostitutes
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] penknife
Author Website: Penknife to Paper
Why this must be read: It's a very dark look into what Garak's life might be like after the end of the series. Garak's thoughts on the DS9 crew are brutally honest, and the scenes between Garak and the prostitutes are disturbing and telling. This is not for the faint of heart, but it definitely is for anyone looking for a powerful read.
