This is my last rec of the month, I hope y'all have enjoyed the fic I've recced! Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Pairing: Cally/Tyrol, Boomer/Tyrol, Six/Roslin, Lee/Dee Author on LJ: jennyoAuthor Website: I'm Just Sayin'Why this must be read:I thought I would finish off the month with one of my favorite BSG fics. Children of an Idle Brain is creepy and thoughtful and very well executed. The summary is: A Treasury of womens' nightmares - and that's what it is. The fic uses minor female characters to great success, but also investigates Roslin, Boomer and Dee. It's really great, so go read! Chilren of an Idle Brain

Fandom: STARGATE: ATLANTIS Pairing: John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir Author on LJ: anrAuthor Website: angstnromance.net Why this must be read:Apocalypse! Yay. It's John and Elizabeth after Atlantis has fallen, with nothing much left but each other, and they're both lost and searching, but the story is still, strangely, more comforting than depressing. Lovely use of shifting timelines, and of John's cool narration to promise us a happy ending, or something like it. Even if neither of them quite know how to get there. They watch the tower crack in half, the control room, her office -- hell, half the goddamned gate room -- shearing away. He sees sky through the flames, sees the ocean. Something hits the 'jumper hard enough for it to shudder, and he slams them into reverse, into the wormhole behind them before the vibrations can fully fade. He wants to close his eyes and make this nightmare go away.
He can't, and their last glimpse of home is of Atlantis falling, ash and cinders floating about her like snow.Fall to Pieces

Fandom: House, M.D. Pairing: House/Wilson Author: modernsaintsAuthor's Website: none that I can find sadly Why this must be read:Is it cheating to rec a story that was written for me? I obviously don't think so - especially when it's as good as this one. modernsaints wrote this fic as part of my bpalanonymous swap this summer and it was quite possibly one of the best surprises I've had in a very long time. This story is an AU, House and Wilson know each other as teenagers and this is one day in the summer before House goes to college. It's got a fantastic Wilson voice, a motorcycle ride, and an amusement park. Again, this story is about the language, the fragments of a 16 year-old mind and his view of his best friend. Also, Greg House is a giant asshole. And after you read this, you'll start reciting that in your head whenever you say Greg House. *g* A Hundred Indecisions

Fandom: THE X-Files Pairing: Mulder/Scully, Scully/Krycek Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: RATales Archive (not personal website) Why this must be read:It's one of those great, epic fics. And it's the apocalypse. AND it's got all three of my favorite characters battling changes and discovering new sides of themselves and each other. What more could you want? In addition, this is a continuation (or rather the other is a precurser) to a fic I already recced, Pinned Butterflies. I love this story because of the way the Krycek/Scully relationship evolves. It's not right away, Scully takes a long time to trust him. And we also get to see Krycek grow up a little and become the reluctant hero. And then suddenly, Mulder shows back up into the picture and doesn't that just throw a kink into the best laid plans? Altogether it is an exciting and well done post-apocalyptic fic. Enjoy! Fandom: House, M.D. Pairing: gen Author: mer_duffAuthor's Website: Author's fiction tagsWhy this must be read: This story is Wilson in a nutshell, the way he is seen by others and the way he wants to be seen. We see him with Cameron as she fights with the idea of lust vs love, him with Cuddy as she worries about him and offers him another avenue of friendship, and then finally we see him with House. The first two scenes are a buildup to him and House and the way he interacts with him, the way House takes care of Wilson in his own way. This story gets Wilson in a way that a lot of authors don't. It's haunting and a little sad, but it's also true to the Wilson on the show, the bits of him that we see when he's being honest with those around him instead of being Dr. James Wilson. ...and I'm done. I hope you enjoyed, or if not, thanks for not throwing things. I appreciate it. :)Fandom: STARGATE: ATLANTIS Pairing: John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir Author on LJ: irony_rocksAuthor Website: fic index Why this must be read:J/Eers love The Return part I, I'm not sure why. But Elizabeth's partial meltdown in that episode is a lot of fun to explore in fic, as are the implications of our team, stranded on their home but still a team. As we'd expect them to be, anywhere. In this story, John's mission is Elizabeth, in a way that's sweet and pretty without being schmoopy and aggravating. Never leave a (wo)man behind, I believe is the motto. And John won't. It's a sequel to a story you should also read, but I don't think you'll be confused if you don't. He talks with Rodney that afternoon. Listens idly as he sprouts on about incompetence and boredom and hedges his way around the loneliness he’s really feeling. John sympathizes, but then hides his flinch when Rodney mentions Elizabeth and her stellar track record with returning phone calls.
“I know what you mean,” is all he offers. The Lies We Tell

Fandom: THE X-Files Pairing: Krycek/Marita Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: RATales Archive (not personal website) Why this must be read:This series is brutal and heart-wrenching. I love fics that look into the character's past and piece together what made them the way they are. These stories are beautiful in the emotions and their story-telling. It's a story about sex and trust and manipulation of all sides. A brilliant read. Listed below in order. Crashing In The Same CarShades of Scarlett ConqueringLilies Know A Ghostly Birth

This is my last rec. I missed crack_van collisions day due to real life issues, but I still wanted to post this little gem. Thanks everyone for checking out my recs!Fandom: House, M.D./Doctor Who Pairing:None, but if you count the fact Jack is there, it's really Jack/everyone Author on LJ: avendyaAuthor's Website: avendya_writesWhy this must be read: Because hilarity ensues when Rose gets ill and Nine and Jack want to get her the best care. And the best care in the history of Earth is ... House. This story is full of banter on both ends, wonderful voices for everyone, especially Nine and House, and finally a satisfying conclusion where no one dies, gets maimed, or sleeps with Jack. Maybe. Fandom: THE X-FILES Pairing: intimated Mulder/Krycek, Krycek/Skinner Author on LJ: ratadderAuthor Website: The CompundWhy this must be read:I thought I'd add a little more angst to this month's offerings. While I'm not a fan of Mulder or Krycek with Skinner, several XF fans are. Plus this fic to me is more about the Mulder/Krycek relationship, what it was, and what's left. Colonization and the war are over and Mulder finds himself back in DC running into an old accomplice. The imagery of the bleak DC winter suits the character interaction very well and the awkwardness is understandable and well done.. And Never Brought To Mind

That's it for me this month - thanks, and hope you enjoyed all the recs!Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: Sarah Jane Smith/Harriet Jones Author on LJ: lilith_morganaAuthor Website: multi-fandom fic masterlistWhy this must be read: Set in the Rise of the Cybermen / Age of Steel universe, this is a just gorgeous alternate look at some familiar characters. They're so much the same, yet they subtly reflect the hard, different world of that universe, and the resulting story is dark and complicated. Sarah is very well written, but in particular Harriet is wonderfully done; it's so easy to make her a caricature, but this story does her a great justice, and makes her real, even if she only actually appears in it a little. In beautiful writing and imagery, this is at its heart a story of love and loss, as simple an idea as in any story, but wonderfully executed. not under the vault of another sky

Popping in with a late vid rec! Vidder: Laura McEwan Musical artist: Chumbawumba Pairing: In the eye of the beholder, just like in the series! Vidder on LJ: lauramcewanVidder's website: http://www.hawksong.com/~lauramcewan/index.htmlWhy this vid kicks ass:This vid would be awesome regardless, just because of the terrific, catchy song. However, Laura makes it even better with her choice of clips and impeccable timing. She's gone beyond the obvious and turned this vid into a series of short, concise character studies. Basically, this ain't just a great song and pretty pictures, it's got depth. Go, watch, feedback the author! Laura's VidsTubthumping is near the bottom of the page.

Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: Chris/Joey Author on LJ: dixie_chickenAuthor Website:Why this must be read:A very unusual SeSa story in which two of our boys are angels. It works. It's told in an adorably matter-of-fact style, there's a perfect Joey-discovers-Lance-is-gay scene, and the ending brings tears to my eyes every time I read it. ( Read more... )Hark

Fandom: Highlander Pairing: Duncan/Methos Author on LJ: killabeezAuthor Website: Killa's Adventures in MelodramaWhy this mustbe read:It must be read because it's Killa, of course. This particular Killa must-read opens on a tense and atmospheric late-night scene in Joe's Bar, where Methos and Joe wait tensely for the outcome of Duncan's fight with Byron. The story turns neatly on canon, the end of the episode becoming the beginning of long night -- and ultimately an understanding between Duncan and Methos. ( But first )Matter and Anti-Matter
