08:02 am Sweet Revenge by Suz(TM) (rated adult)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Author on LJ:Suz
Author Website: not found
Why this must be read:

Greetings, fellow travelers. This is my first time driving the Starsky and Hutch van. I must say it's getting hard to find great stories that aren't already crackvanned, but I think I have a few good ones to share. Took me a while to decide on what to rec first, but I think I knew all along that this one would have to be it.

(Note: I'm not the most LJ-savvy person in the world so if I get the formatting wrong, I'll find out how to fix it asap.)

When I read this story the first time, I was utterly riveted, not only by the content, but by the writing style. This story drags you in, knocks you off balance, and then makes sure you never get your feet back under you. When I finished it, I think I just sat there for minutes, unable to move. I know I thought, "that might be the best Starsky and Hutch story I've ever read," and right after that, I thought, "this might be the best short story I've ever read in my life" (and I've read a lot of short stories in my life). I almost didn't want to reread it for this review, because I wasn't sure I wanted to get on that roller coaster again, but I'm glad I did.

It's a post-Sweet Revenge story, and there are lot of them out there, but this one leads the pack by several length. There are some typos and some odd formatting on the LJ version, but the story is so overwhelmingly compelling that I don't think anyone will mind.

11:37 am Thou Mayest in Me Behold, by Leiascully (R)
Hey y'all, I'm driving the House van this month, so get psyched for lots and lots of recs about Cuddy!

To start us off:

Fandom: House
Pairing: House/Cuddy/Wilson
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] leiascully
Author Website: No Parenthesis

Why this must be read: The relationship between House, Wilson and Cuddy is one of the more interesting ones on the show, in my opinion. This fic brilliantly explores the dynamic between them - as dysfunctional and bizarre and lovely as it is. It's impossibly sweet but in a way that's true to the characters, and I hope y'all love it as much as I do!

01:59 pm Cave-In by KellyA (PG)
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: http://www.blackraptor.net/m7fic/contents/authors-k.htm#kelly
Why this must be read:

Ezra likes to poke at Nathan, much in the way a man like to poke at a sore tooth. The two of them can hit each other's weak spots with an unerring accuracy that inevitable ends up hurting them both. But when need presents itself, they work together as tightly as any other of the Seven.

In Cave-In, Ezra and Nathan are sent to investigate a potentially dangerous mine and - as the title suggests - end up trapped by a cave-in. KellyA shows how quickly the two of them drop their differences and end up depending on each other when the situation demands it.

Please note, the PG rating is my estimate and not the author's.

07:40 pm Ghosts by Anjou (PG-13)
Welcome to another month of The X Files recs from me, your giddy third-time driver for November. As the fandom is currently ablaze with news of the XF2 film finally being green-lit, and talk of it taking "the relationship between Mulder and Scully in unexpected directions," I thought it especially fitting that I had planned to rec post-The Truth fics this month. It's very exciting to think that by this time next year, we'll have a whole new world of canon to explore. Until then, on to the recs.

Fandom: THE X FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] anjoufic
Author Website: No Other...love stories for Mulder & Scully
Why this must be read:

This is Anjou's take on 'how Mulder and Scully get William back'. It is gently and beautifully written, being neither overly optimistic nor overly bleak. I picked this first because its Hallowe'en theme blends nicely into the beginning of November. It is as little and as much as a story about love and family, with some telepathy, communicating with the dead, and spooning whilst talking about magnetite thrown in.

In the weeks since William was returned to them, Scully had radiated a quiet happiness that Mulder had never seen before. She was luminous and fierce in her love for William and for him, and determined that they would be safe. There would be no turning back from the path they were on together, the three of them. This was not the life that Mulder had envisioned for them, nor the path to safety that Scully had tried to clear for their child, but it was what it was. They had ten years to do their work, and together, they would keep William safe.

11:30 pm In the News, by Dizmo
Fandom:Popslash
Pairing:JC/Joey
Author on lj:[livejournal.com profile] dizmo
Author Website: Diz*Beaux

Why this must be read: Today we recieved the sad news that after six years, the Secret Santa Popslash exchange Don We Now Our Gay Apparel is coming to a close. This was a major event in Popslash for it's entire run, with many people out of the fandom coming back every year to write just one more story. There's already another exchange in the works, but DWNOGA was special.

This story is from last year's challenge, and Dizmo took an interesting approach. She wrote *NSync as Fall Out Boy, imagining if they were an up and coming punk/pop band putting out their cd's now, in today's internet saturated enviroment. The entire story is told in internet news clips, blog chats, ect. It does an excellent job of marrying the *NSync characters with the "no fourth wall" experience of bandslash. Plus, it's funny.
