07:13 pm The Barista Series/The Assistant Series by dietcokechic (T)
Hello all, my name is [personal profile] fragmentpieces  and I shall be your driver for the Stargate SG1 fandom in the month of November. So without further ado, let's get this party started with one of my favorite stories!

Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: none, gen
Author on LJ: [profile] dietcokechick  (hasn't been updated)
Author Website: dietcokechic's fanfiction (http://www.dietcokechic.com/stargate/)

Why this must be read: These two series are comprised of stand alone vignettes that takes the reader life at the SGC through the eyes of Daniel's Barista (yes, I said Barista).  This is one of the longest Stargate fics that I have ever read, at 283 pages plus the bonus story, it is one hefty series, but it does not seem that way because it is broken up into smaller, more manageable parts. The main selling point though is that the OC, Kira, does not seem like an OC, she could easily be a minor character from the show.

The first series, The Barista, takes you through the first 5 seasons with a bonus story called The Problem With Eavesdropping. The second series is a work in progress and it's 10 stories into season 6. The author really knows her stuff and it shows, so set aside some time and enjoy the stories!

08:01 pm Duet, with Brief Interlude for Trio by JS Cavalcante
Hi all,

I'm driving the due South rec van for November, and since it's my second time at the wheel of this particular fandom I'm going to do my best to throw the headlights on a wider variety of fic. I'll be focusing on newer stories, undiscovered gems and authors who haven't yet been rec'd on the CV. (See? I am young and hip and I make with the acronyms!)

I tend to like Fraser/Kowalski stories but, like the Man himself, I'll try anything once. Expect a mix of long dramatic stories, sweet and short one-shots, and everything in between. It's going to be a fun month here in the dS lot after a looooong dry spell. I hope you'll discover something new or reread an old favourite. As always, please remember to let an author know when you encounter something you like. Feedback is the gas that keeps the fandom engine going, so don't be afraid to make contact and tell someone you like her work. Authors tend to be pretty receptive to that kind of thing.

Alright! On with the first rec!

Duet, with Brief Interlude for Trio by JS Cavalcante (R/NC-17)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski/Vecchio
Author's Website: JS' due South stories on LJ
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] j_s_cavalcante

Why this must be read:

When [livejournal.com profile] j_s_cavalcante posted this achingly sweet and tender threesome fic last Christmas for [livejournal.com profile] ds_seekritsanta it seemed to slip through the cracks, and I think it's still one of her least-read stories. While Ray/Ray fics are starting to gain in popularity and more new authors are taking on Fraser/Vecchio, the Holy Trio is still something of a shadowy figure in the fandom, present but not often tackled. Part of the reason threesomes are rarely written in this fandom might be the heavy lifting required to get all three of these guys (each with their own complex interpersonal histories) together in the same bed.

JS tackles that issue head-on in this story about holiday generosity, friendship and forgiveness, and she spends a significant amount of time ironing out the motivations behind each guy's actions and decisions. JS isn't afraid to delve into Kowalski and Vecchio's relationship with Stella, and she turns the Wife of Many Rays into a fully-formed character with her own set of complexities and motivations even though she doesn't actually appear in the story. And anyone who gives good Stella is okay in my books.

Anyway, the key word for this story is "complex." Complex emotions, complex physical acts, complex situation. This is one of the few threesome stories I've read that deals with the emotional and psychological subtleties of a threesome pairing before delving into the sex, and I think it's a fic that offers just as much insight into Fraser, Kowalski and Vecchio as it does sex and heat and heart-twisty goodness. Don't believe me?

08:33 pm The Hard Way, by Lennie
Hi, I'm amandazillah and I'm the Popslash driver for [livejournal.com profile] crack_van this month. Popslash is one of the great fandoms of all time, as illustrated by the fact that there's something like 347 recs in the memories of this community. And some of my favorites still hadn't been mentioned.

I want to rec some of the oddities and overlooked fics of popslash, and I might take a look at some of the popgirls while I'm at it. Britney, Christina and Pink have all had some interesting fics written about them.

I'm going to start with my "comfort fic", the one I kept turning to after a hard day.

Fandom: Popslash
Pairing: Justin/Lance
Author on lj: [livejournal.com profile] thebitchtrolls
Author Website:Entendre Intended
Why this must be read:

This is the sequel to Buying A Clue, and it's the better story, to me. Justin comes to terms with his sexuality, and vows to make Lance love him. Typical Justin bravado, but Lance isn't entirely against this plan. He thinks.

This story has great dialogue, sharp and realistic. The supporting characters, especially JC and Britney, are hilarious. And it's a good love story fic for a bad day.

08:38 pm 5:02 AM in the Glass City by Madripoor_Rose (PG)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] madripoor_rose
Author Website: None that I know of
Why this must be read:

Because this is the kind of fic that brings home the ways in which we all have the ability to be heroes, not necessarily in the "running into burning buildings" sense, but just in our everyday lives. It was written for a comm I created with [livejournal.com profile] jen_in_japan, called [livejournal.com profile] dcdailylife, in which authors write themselves (believably) into the DC universe.

I dithered for a long while on which [livejournal.com profile] dcdailylife fic to rec, because there are at least five that called out to me (and I may still rec another). But this one tears at my heart in just the right way. It's simple and heartwrenching and I love it. And so will you, even if you have no idea who the comic character is.

09:44 pm Think Yourself Out in the Darkness and Spin, by Jane St Clair (NC-17)
Hi. My name is Becky, and I'll be your driver for Torchwood this month. I promise to do my best to give a balanced representation of different genres, ratings, and pairings.

So, that's out of the way - let's get to the recs.

Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Suzie/Owen, Jack/Owen
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] 3jane
Author Website: Jane's fic
Why this must be read: I've always loved Jane's stuff, and this doesn't disappoint. It's dense with atmosphere and history, her look at Owen and Suzie are breath-taking, and she writes a Jack that I don't just believe in, but can feel. You should know that there are spoilers for episodes 1X08 and 1X11.

10:14 pm A Haunting Tale Affair by Karen Poitras (G)

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] periwinkle27, back to drive for another month. Given that yesterday was Halloween, I thought I'd start with this story.

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Karen Poitras
Why this must be read:
Illya has moved into his dream home. Six months ago he lost Napoleon and he can't continue at U.N.C.L.E. without him. He's looking forward to relaxing, gardening and swimming in his pool.

Then things start to go awry. And he begins to feel as if he's being watched. A chill sometimes goes through him.

But it's not what you think it is...

11:28 pm Who Am I? by gravi_girl123 (R)
Hello, I'm [livejournal.com profile] cathybites, your friendly neighborhood SPN driver for the month of November. Pretty much all I read in the fandom is Sam/Dean, and 99% of that is kind of porny, so. If that's not your thing, then I guess you can consider this a bit of a vacation. yay? For everyone else, let's get this party started.

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] gravi_girl123
Author Website: her lj memories
Why this must be read: This was the first Sam/Dean fic I read. I don't remember how I found this fic, but I do remember thinking, 'FINALLY'. Because, y'know, I had to wait a whole SIX DAYS for the Sam/Dean fic I'd been craving since Dean slammed Sam to the floor and said, "Whoa, easy, tiger." It's all about Dean searching for his identity, and re-reading this with a bit over two seasons under my belt, what really amazes me about this story is how *right* she got the characterization with so little to go on.

11:28 pm Clark Kent's Adventures in Babysitting by paperbkryter
My name is Toby and I'll be the Smallville driver for November. I adore Chlark fics and I think that most of my recs will end up in that genre. However, I have certain Clex fics I adore and want to rec and some gen stuff as well, so it, hopefully, will end up being quite a mix. This first fic, however, is actually about Clark and Lana

Here's the rundown:
