Title: The Devil's Gate by [livejournal.com profile] hesychasm
Pairing: Jo/Faith
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hesychasm
Author Website: lj memories
Why this must be read:

This fic seriously blew me away. I don't even know what to say about it. It's got a fabulous portrayal of Jo (as I said to the author, this is the Jo that I'd always hoped - and still hope - to see on the show), Faith is fantastic, as is Angel, Willow, Buffy, everyone! It's long and plotty and heartbreaking and gorgeous. I mean, I love the Jo/Faith aspect of the story (because, HELLO, HI HI HOTNESS), but it's the actual plot that makes this story for me: Jo, feeling a bit adrift and uncertain after BUaBS, makes her way to California, to the place where her father died, intending to clean it up. While there, she runs into some of the local Slayerettes, and gets taken in by them and Angel - and can I just say that one of my favorite images from the story is picturing Angel surrounded by hundreds of Slayerettes. Just...hee! Fabulous all around.

Title: Patrick's Desperate Plan To Stop His House Expanding And Its Unexpected But Ultimately Pleasant Result
Pairing: John/Patrick
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] toft_froggy
Author Website: All my fic are belong to us
Why this must be read: Because it's extraordinary! Patrick, portrayed by David Hewlett, is a very special kind of crazy. His particular brand of oddness is quite unique and very difficult to put into words. Furthermore, 'A Dog's Breakfast' is a very limited canon--one 90 minute movie. Despite these obstacles, Toft_froggy nails Patrick. I was blown away by how perfectly she captured him. She then ties John Sheppard into ADB canon in a wonderfully creative and sweetly humorous way.

NOTE: This story completely spoils the movie. I urge you to watch A Dog's Breakfast before reading this fic.

Fandom: DC COMICS

Why this mustbe read:

This story is a classic in the fandom for its sheer brilliance and how much it says about Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake, as well as what it says about Batman and Robin. It's chilling, in fact. There's not too much I can say without ruining the story for you, but this a story you will remember. In fact, I would argue that any fan of Batman and Robin should read this.

Title: Love and Darkness and Our Genomes by Sarah Segretti
Pairing: None
Author on LJ:
Author Website: the little things
Why this must be read:

This is a very interesting look at what might happen if you inserted a slice of The X Files into the Dark Angel universe. It's primarily a Dark Angel fic, but the slivers of XF provide poignancy and more questions than answers, exactly as The X Files should. It has a great Max voice, bounty hunters and a special appearance by Krycek.

Read Love and Darkness and Our Genomes.

09:28 pm The Twilite Zone Affair by Ashley Pitt (G)

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ashley_pitt
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read:

I know half of you see "The Twilight Zone" title and want to go doo-doo doo doo.

Out of your system now? Right. Okay, then, on to the review. [livejournal.com profile] ashley_pitt is relatively new to [livejournal.com profile] muncle and well worth discovering. She lives fairly close to me and one of these days I'm just going to show up at her front door and make her show me everything she's written. Her stories are very inventive and unusual.

This particular short story (843 words) is worthy of its title as it has a suitably spooky ending. As in its namesake, it starts out normally (Napoleon gets a call from Illya via communicator) and then it becomes a tad freaky.
