Fuji discovers a true source of inspiration in these two short stories by branchfic. Although they aren't specifically sequential, the second leads from events which transpire in the first and which did not occur in canon. Branch has a deft hand with characters and voices and situations that ring true.

Why this vid kicks ass: When it was released, this songvid ate fandom. It's easy to see why: it's an anthem to fangirls and the way they love and invest in stories and pictures and characters -- all the things I've tried to encapsulate in this rec set. Saying anything else about "Us" would be hype for the sake of it; this vid speaks for itself.

Why this must be read:

This last rec is a futurefic – and it's an interesting thing about Danny and Brett that they have the potential to be one of the happiest slash couples out there. Sexual fidelity doesn't seem to be an issue, they get along well and on equal terms, and they have the resources to deal with any outside worries that arise. Unlike cops or soldiers, say, they could afford to be fairly, if discreetly, public about a relationship. There's an implication in "A Death in the Family" (possibly the last episode) that Danny's even moved what may be his last relative over to England, which could mean he intends a permanent residence there – with, obviously, Brett. So, uh, kidfic, anyone?

I know, me neither, but this is really charming. In this cute little story, a slightly older Danny and Brett live together and have acquired a couple toddlers somehow and are still comfortably arguing about everything and nothing. The voices are very good and it's surprisingly full of little touches that fit together to make it work. And there's that summery, open-ended sense that everything really is going to be all right forever.

This is probably my favourite Sam/Gene fic out there. It is an absolutely beautiful character piece on the pairing, warts and all, and how they overcome the difficulties of being two 70's coppers who just happen to be shagging.

Since I tend to be an OTP kind of girl, I don't always know where to look for good stories that break up my favourite pairings. Recently, the Saiyuki friending meme hosted by moshesque brought me to this excellent and subtly written piece of Prince of Tennis fanfiction in which the first troubled signs of longing start to trouble Echizen Ryoma. The story moves from disturbance to yearning to fresh disturbance as Echizen realizes the potential difficulties his feelings might engender. A short, sweet story.

Another from this year's yuletide challenge, this story is hilariously awesome. Linus is having an existential crisis. Possibly there are superhero metaphors involved.

Danny Ocean is absolutely Batman. Crazy, mortal, invincible through sheer force of will and wits. Changes identities with the flip of a switch. Looks good in a suit. Batman.

This is my last rec of the month, and I'm reccing what is my favorite story in the Fake News RPF fandom ever. It's Stephen, Paul and Amy, the evolution of their relationships with each other and the little bits of history we get from interviews which Kyra turns into something natural and gorgeous. You really can't help but grinning throughout the whole thing because it rings so true and tugs at your heartstrings.

Cyloran has written numerous Bob-centric fics and this is one of my favorites. It's Father's Day, a tough day for Harry, who has lingering feelings of sadness and guilt about his father's death. Bob reasons with Harry in an attempt assuage those feelings. The rapport between Harry and Bob is great, and the fic will leave you with a smile in the end.
