Fandom: RPF (SCI FI TV) Pairing: Tricia Helfer/Katee Sackhoff Author on LJ: pirateygoodnessAuthor Website: pirateygoodnessWhy this must be read:Yay, it's girlslash theme time! And this selection, much likes the girls, only *looks* pretty and shallow at first. Peel back the layers and you've got really great obeservations about who Tricia might be under her perfect features, and who Katee might be when they're together, less perfect and still feeling her way. Plus it takes advantage of an honourable genre-actor fic trope, sex that totally doesn't count because they're away from home. What happens at Comic Con stays at Comic Con, got it? Plus. Sexy. "So tell me," Katee says, knocking back a sip of the electric-pink strawberry daquiri she always gets when she's sick of being Starbuck. "Battlestar Galactica 's Tricia Helfer. How does it feel to be an ambiguously evil robot sex symbol?" All the Pretty Girls Go

Fandom: RPF (SCI FI TV) Pairing: Torri Higginson/Rachel Lutrell Author on LJ: sugargroupieAuthor Website: sugar water Why this must be read:A seductive take on a pairing that doesn't really get any play in the fandom. No accidental hookups in this story. Just completely on-purpose hookups, told in a manner that you can't help falling for. Kind of like Torri and Rachel. When Torri takes another gulp she shivers, even as a warm spring breeze ruffles her hair. She swallows down the rich coffee and taste of Rachel, and knows she is in trouble. Spring Summer Feeling

Fandom: STARGATE SG-1 Pairing: Jack/Daniel UST Author on LJ:Nope Author Website: Quercus/Lemon DropWhy this must be read:Because it's lyrical and more an atmosphere piece. It has what made Stargate really good : finding new worlds, finding new frontiers. Of course, it had to be trees eventually. Trees that are the one common things to most of the adventures of SG-1. It has also the wonderful parallel string of thought about Daniel and his childhood sand memories and Jack's forest and trees childhood memories. It's about how friendship and duty blend and how perfectly sometimes people come to work together. Diplomacy of trees I'm a little late starting but I'll put in my 4 recs before the month is out.

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: Nine/Rose/Jack Author on LJ: doyle_sb4Author Website: exitseraphim.netWhy this must be read:*blush* I seem to be following the trend and getting a late start this month, but never fear, I have plenty of lovely recs to share, mainly Nine/Rose/Jack. Enjoy! Still, she was feeling confident about this round. "False," she said.
The Doctor said, "True."
"Why do you keep saying the opposite of me?"
"Because you're almost always wrong. Which is you're quickly becoming hammered while I'm merely experiencing a pleasant buzz."
"I'm not hammammered," she said, the m sounds giving her trouble. "And I'm definitely, absolutely, million percent right this time. Look, he hasn't got any tattoos on his arms. I can see his arms."
Jack tapped a bare patch of skin on his forearm. "Five-dimensional insignia of the Time Agents. Never got around to having it removed."
She spent a long time scrutinizing his arm for the invisible mark before she took the shot.A Phantom of Clouds

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: Nine/Rose/Jack Author on LJ: cantralianWhy this must be read:The Doctor trades himself for Jack and Rose on a planet where memories and experience are commodities. "And what's going to be happening to them in the meantime?"
He swallowed and answered reluctantly, gazing down at the Doctor with something like pity in his eyes. "All new subjects go through evaluation. To test reaction level, triggers, responses; give the creative teams a feel for how best to use them."
A dark shadow flitted across the Doctor's face and he rushed to reassure him.
"Nothing permanent, nothing damaging. It just triggers memories, emotions, and monitors the response."
"And what about after that?"
Hesitating, he looked away. "You don't want to know."Part IPart IIPart III

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: Not really Author on LJ: neadodsWhy this must be read:After the debacle Adam caused when he came on board, it takes a while for the Doctor to trust Jack. "Don't I get dipped too?" Jack pouted. Rose squeaked. The Doctor spun him in a quick half-turn first, sweeping Jack into the same dip as he had Rose -- only this time, Jack's head grazed close enough to the console to flip the RAF hat over his face. Rose squeaked again. Jack burst out laughing... but as he shook the hat off, for a moment their eyes met and Jack nodded slightly. Threat understood.
Good. The Doctor pulled him back upright and let go.
"I'm cutting in," Rose announced directly behind his left ear; when the Doctor reached for her, she ducked, giggling, under his arm and went to Jack. Jack glanced quickly at the Doctor -- was he asking permission? -- before leading her in grand sweeps around the room.
The Doctor watched them thoughtfully. Look at that, he's managing to swing by every exit and control panel. She thinks they're just dancing, but he's checking out the place. Smart. Subtle.Sins of Adam

Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT Pairing: Casey McCall/Dan Rydell Author on LJ: torchthisnowAuthor Website: None known Why this must be read: Nothing lasts forever. In the final episode of Sports Night, the station is bought out by a rugged-jawed venture capitalist who, the implication is, will ensure the show's survival ad infinitum. But, as we all know, the real world doesn't work like that. Everything ends, and it's easy to take that fact and spin a bleak, dark story full of sadness. It's much more difficult to take the same fact and turn it into a beacon of hope for the future, but this is what torchthisnow has done here. Some of our characters have already moved on, some of them are still assessing their different circumstances, but all of them will survive; and all of them have at least the chance to be happy – even without Sports Night. Which isn't the easiest thing in the world. He’s glad, suddenly, so glad that they’re ending this together. It would all be so much worse if the show hadn’t been cancelled and it was just Casey’s last night, if the show had gone on without them as a team, a pair. Partners. They started it together and they’ll finish together, and it seems right and just.Spin Another Line

Fandom: XENA Pairing: Xena / Gabrielle (and AU versions) Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: Pink Rabbit Consortium Xena Fanfic Archive (scroll down to Anima) Why this must be read:An interesting story, that's actually three short stories on a related theme - one in the "classic" Xena universe, and two in alternate universes (AU, which is known as "uber" in the Xena fandom, and is actually canon since there were a couple episodes of the show with the "characters" of Xena and Gabrielle brought into different time periods). The first places places a Xena-like character and a Gabrielle-like character on a train in WWII-era Europe. The second explores the dynamic between Xena and Gabrielle on one of their many rides through the countryside on their way to save the day, and the third bring the two characters into the modern day. The theme tying together the three stories is sex, and so each of the three is basically a sex scene with enough backstory to make it interesting. One of the hardest parts of an AU / uber story is keeping the characters in character - it can be difficult to keep the core essentials of a personality intact while placing the character in completely different surroundings. Anima does this quite well in this story, especially in the WWII-era piece. There is also an excellent sequel, "Triptych Home", which revisits the characters in each of the three universes as they go home. Triptych Sex and Triptych Home
