12:33 am The Overnight Shift by Victoria Wayne (PG-13)
Fandom: DC Comics
Pairing: None
Author On LJ: [livejournal.com profile] victoria_wayne
Author's Website: Master fic List
Why This Must Be Read:

[livejournal.com profile] dcdailylife is the brainchild of [livejournal.com profile] jen_in_japan and [livejournal.com profile] marag and challenged writers to transplant themselves into the DCverse. The resulting stories ran from hysterical, to touching, to downright rip your heart out angsty. This one falls toward the hysterical range. [livejournal.com profile] victoria_wayne gives us a peek into the brain of a McDonalds employee. Herself.

Only a herself that is working in Gotham City. Working the night shift in Gotham City. It's a story that still has me giggling and I still go back and reread it from time to time. The mental image of the Batmobile at a McDonalds drive through never gets old.

Fandom: RPF (SCI FI TV)
Pairing: Nathan Fillion/Alan Tudyk
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] prehistoric_sea
Author Website: fic index
Why this must be read:

Short, really short, but still somehow you will read it and go, yes. I can see that.

It was fun for awhile, playing roommates, playing lovers. It was all In and Out Burger at 3:00 AM and blowjobs in the middle of the afternoon, X-Box and Entourage and dirty jokes.

Fandom: RPF (SCI FI TV)
Pairing: Gina Torres/Katee Sackhoff
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] marenfic
Author Website: skip the light fandango
Why this must be read:

This was not on my original list (not that I ever follow the list, but even so, it wasn't there). But when I was making the girlslash recs I discovered that this story was lingering in my brain somehow, like: didn't I read this really hot story about Gina in a hotel room one time? And I did. And here it is. Lovely Gina voice, steady and hypnotic. What happens at Comic Con? Stays at Comic Con. And this story will stay with you.

They bought two rounds and chatted. Katee was brash and a little loud in the way that young women who think of themselves as blunt can be, but Gina found her intriguing anyway.

When Katee edged so close to her that her right breast brushed up against Gina’s hand, well, that didn’t exactly surprise her either.

10:46 am Three Out of Two by leiascully (R)
Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: Cuddy/House
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] leiascully
Author Website: Fic Index
Why this must be read:

The author describes this five-part series in the following manner: "Slightly mushy AU S3 fic. House/Cuddy resolving the pregnancy arc and assuming the ketamine lasted forever, hooray."

The reality is a little more lyrical, a little more beautiful. [livejournal.com profile] leiascully has a lovely way with words, with characterisation, with the way these two fit together. She gives us a slightly less rough-edged House with, of all things, a chance at real happiness, and a Cuddy who proves that sometimes what you want and what you need are the same. The banter is witty, Wilson and the Ducklings are themselves, House plays the piano for Cuddy and there's poker!

Is this my audition? )

02:37 pm Project Overlord by kantayra (NC-17)
Fandom: Smallville
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kantayra
Author Website: kantayra_fic
Why this must be read: How no one has ever not rec’d this fic, I’ll never know. It’s hilariously crack at it’s best. Lex turns 40, Clark is (once again) stuck dealing with the birthday fallout and Mercy is getting really sick of the “Great Supermemory Debate”

Author’s Synopsis: Clark is suspicious when Lex is still failing at Evil Overlord 101, even at age 40...

Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Duncan, Methos
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tryfanstone
Author Website: Terra Incognita
Why this must be read:
A very interesting view of the intersection of immortality with mortality, and creativity, and art. Beautiful, bittersweet, and as with all of Jay Tryfanstone's work, exquisitely written.

09:23 pm What's Luck Got to Do with It? by S T (NC-17)
Fandom: Magnificent 7
Pairing: Ezra/Vin
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author's Website: for this story, Tar 'n Feathers
Why this must be read:

Of all the pairings of the Mag7 universes, probably the one I have the hardest time accepting is Ezra and Vin.  From the series itself, it's clear that the two men are about as opposite as night and day - and more significantly, other than the other five men they ride with, they have virtually nothing in common.  But they are one of the more popular pairings, and for those of us who love Vin, and who will take him any way we can get him, we accept E/V - even though I do it with a certain level of 'suspension of disbelief'.

Until - I was pointed to this story.  S T does something that very very few Ezra writers do - she makes him as dominant in the story as I see him in the series.  Not 'tie-Vin-to-the-bed' dominant, but, to quote Ezra from the show itself, "I abhor gambling and as such leave nothing to chance".  In this story - he does leave nothing to chance, and it is wonderful and wicked because of it!  The characters are awesome - true to the show and yet their interaction in the story is sound as well, something I could actually accept.  The writing is strong, the story is fun, and I just love Ezra's very polite way of taking charge.

09:38 pm Fun With Fanon by lyn (pg, just to be safe)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: Haven't been able to find any, help please?
Author Website: http://brothersinarmsfiction.com/tsstories.html (She also has a slash page, http://brothersinarmsfiction.com/tsslashstories.html)

Why this must be read:

As you can tell from the title, the fun in this story is identifying all the fanon cliches in this short piece. But lyn has taken those cliches--and after more than ten years of very prolific writing in the fandom, there are a lot--and made a coherent story of them. With smarm, even. (Wait, does smarm count as a cliche?) This is one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" fics, because wow. Making a story out of cliches is not as easy as it might seem. *G*
