12:56 am Act II, Scene XXIII by Elana (PG)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Padmé Amidala/Anakin Skywalker
Length: 865 words
Author on LJ: I don't think she's got one.
Author Website: Profile on Fanfiction.net
Why this must be read: This is the fireside conversation between Anakin and Padmé, rewritten in a scrupulously Shakespearean style. Blank verse, word choice, ending couplets, and an impressive elegance. In all this, the spirit of the original scene is kept, the course of the conversation followed, and the same imagery used and expanded.

10:14 am The Other Man by Jess M (R)
Fandom: X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

A dark, thought-provoking, disturbing tale about clones. To say more would be to ruin it.

It was all so normal and usual and easy that when Chuck Finson called her down to the lab three days later, she thought at first that it must be related to the perp's blood. How on earth could anything terrible or complicated have come from something as simple as a thin silver needle, slipping under Mulder's skin and out again in seconds?

Why this must be read:
I adored this fic. It caught me up and wouldn't let me go until I got to the end. It has everything. Action, adventure, existential angst, and kick-ass characterizations. Excellent Jack. This is Jack, pared down to the bone. Jack is just so Jack, the irreverance, the humor, the strength, the integrity, everything that makes him him. A multidimensional Kanan, very real, but with a clear sense of other. The depiction of their interaction with each other is phenomenal. Fantastic story.

I hope everyone was able to find something they enjoyed reading this month. It's been a lot of fun looking for goodies to share. Hope to be able to do it again in the future.

Pairing: Kara Thrace/Sharon Valerii
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl
Author Website: anafic
Why this must be read:

BSG has some kickass women, both of the human and the manufactured variety. And there is nothing better than a story in which two kickass women make out. This story has lovely characterisation. Sharon's heart and uncertainty, and Kara's fight and strength, shine right through. Five moments, sexy, surprising, desperate, uncomfortable and comforting.

"You're really drunk."

Starbuck grins, her eyelids dropping slightly. "But not too drunk." And then she's kissing Sharon, and it's as wet and messy as Starbuck's drunken laughter was. Wet, Starbuck's tongue licking out across Sharon's lips; messy, her mouth trailing brief lines of kisses across Sharon's jaw. Starbuck's hands are holding Sharon close, and now it's Starbuck keeping Sharon upright. It's Sharon who feels drunk, out of control.

Why this must be read:

I'll say it flat out - this story is fabulous. I have it tagged as Helo/Athena, which it is, but it's also just Athena, learning, growing, hoping and wishing, and all sorts of other things that toasters shouldn't be able to do. Sharon made a choice, to wear a uniform, to be a person, and this fic will remind you why we love her for exactly that.

There was a knot of scar tissue in her stomach from the bullet she’d taken on Caprica. Helo never forgave himself for it and he used to trace it in his sleep. She would reach down and still his hand, entwine their fingers until he settled, and tell herself she was unique enough that it was really her he loved.

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 88K

Author Website: Fiction by Susan (scroll down to her name)
Why this must be read:

I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here this month, and I hope I've introduced you to some stories that you might enjoy. For my last rec, Falling Slowly.

This is one of those stories where you can't just read it and be done with it. When insomnia takes you, this is the story you think of, turning it over and over in your mind.

Susan uses a wonderful economy of words, delicate and never over-heavy. She says things so simply, yet you walk away feeling as if you've had a full-course meal.

Starsky wants Hutch, but Hutch isn't sure he's ready to give over everything traditional and just be with Starsky. Susan guides us through this maze of heartache, love, and fear, all while tackling a case that takes us up to Bloodbath canon.

He folded up the map and got it right the first time. Like always. I have many gifts, but map folding ain’t one of them. “I went to sit in the car before, while you were still asleep,” he said. “I wanted to drive away from everything. All of this. Be somewhere else. Be someone else.” He rubbed at the inside of his left arm, he still did that when he was tired.

done! sorry, again.

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003
Pairing: Karl Agathon/Lee Adama
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Author Website: dysfunctional.
Why this must be read:

Hot. Angsty. Bruising and shameless, in the good way. Ignore the author's notes; this story isn't gratuitous at all. (Unless hot angst has become gratuitous, in which case I'm in so much trouble, you have no idea.)

Karl Agathon is dead.

Lee knows this because Sharon, no, not Sharon, that simulation of some entity that was named Sharon. No, no, no, no. Whatever "it" is called, when "it" came back to Galactica, "it" came back without Helo. The thing -- it -- it said that Helo had stayed behind on Caprica.

It said that Helo had sacrifced Lee for the greater good -- and this was why you could never trust a Cylon.

Lee kisses Kara instead of Helo, because you can't kiss ghosts.

Especially ghosts who come back with Cylons.

Here’s my last fic rec. I know I have one more allotted, but to quote Jim, “… quite frankly, Captain, I'm kind of tired.”

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 11,300 words
Author on LJ:http://lamardeuse.livejournal.com/
Author Website: http://lamardeuse.dreamhost.com/fiction/fiction.html
Why this must be read:

Lamardeuse weaves time together like a beautiful cloth.

“Blair watches the slow striptease, transfixed, but he can tell there's something else underlying Jim's movements, a faint hint of fear in the calculated way he reveals his skin to Blair. It's not a striptease so much as the exposure of armor, the revelation of the layer of insulation that keeps the world at arm's length that keeps the man inside safe and untouched. He's trying to protect himself from Blair, and the realization chills Blair to the bone.”

Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Richard White
Length: Vignette
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce
Author Website: Buffy/Angel fics by character, Buffy/Angel fics by timeline and spoiler, X-Men and other comics stories
Why this must be read:

Because Richard White was an awesome character, beautifully played by James Marsden. But given the dynamics of the Superman Returns fandom, he's usually seen solely as an obstacle to Superman and Lois. At best, his character is there only as Jason's step-father and Lois' fiance, with no real agency of his own. This short piece by [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce takes the glimpses we have of his life in the movie and turns them into a plausible, intriguing look at who he is and what got him to the Daily Planet as an editor for his uncle.

09:25 pm Good for You by Giddy (PG13)
Fandom: Entourage
Pairing: Vince/Eric
Author on LJ:: [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek
Author Website: The Geekdom

This is essentially the story about how Vince got Eric to come out to LA. It's such a throwaway line in the show, because we meet the characters after Eric has become somewhat entrenched in LA, enough that he's not leaving. But it adds such depth to the relationship between Eric and Vince--that Vince had to compel Eric to move to California, that he cared enough to do it. That it mattered to Vince's life that Eric was there.

Vince shook his head. "You're spinning your wheels, E. And you know why I'm home? Cause I got a movie. I got the movie, Eric, two million dollars, a house, a car, my name on the posters. Jessica fucking Alba for my co-star. I'm home cause I made it."

Eric was pale, bright red spots on his cheekbones. He leaned back and crossed his arms over his chest. "Good for you, man," he said to the tabletop and Vince couldn't even be mad 'cause he fucking meant it, Eric, he meant good for you when everyone else in Queens had meant fuck you, give me something.

"Thanks. E. Look at me." Vince smiled. "E, c'mon. That's not the only reason I came home. Ask me what else I came here for."

"What'd you come here for, Vince?"

Fandom: Entourage
Pairing: none. unless Ari/self-pity counts.
Author on LJ:: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Author Website: dysfunctional

You may notice that this is not a Vince/Eric story. Believe it or not, I can actually be convinced that the world of Entourage does not revolve around Vince and Eric's true, pure, bitchy love; but generally it's only because of zahra's mad skills at Ari Gold characterization. This is a) hilarious; b) from Lloyd's perspective, and thus for the win; c) a great pick up to the season three finale, which left us all hanging like a bitch. It's been jossed, but is so totally worth your time to read. Por ejemplo:

On day three of TVC, Ari comes to the office wearing his best Brioni suit and the blood red tie that always makes Lloyd think of filet mignon and Jaws. Ari only wears this tie when he's been dreaming of sacrificing babies in front of god, the paparazzi, and everyone eating at The Ivy.

Lloyd knows this because Ari told him about this dream the day after Vince told the Foreign Press that the new and improved Queens Boulevard was a piece of shit.

That was a rough week.

Lloyd misses that compared to this.

Today, Lloyd makes twenty-three calls to Eric's cell phone, every last one of which goes to voice mail. He calls Vince six times, Turtle fourteen and Drama none.

Nobody hangs up on Lloyd.

Of course, nobody calls Lloyd back either.

This is another version of how Vince got Eric to come out to LA. But what I love so very much about it is that it's not what Vince does, but what he doesn't do, that brings Eric around.

Vince is maybe a little jealous. And maybe a little clueless. He's lucky that he's pretty. And that he has Eric.

"Are you really this stupid?" he asks Eric as they make their way to the car. "Because if I'm the smart one, we're in serious trouble here, E. Come on."

Eric snorts at him. "Are you really this fucking stupid? Because if you keep that shit up, that going to bed shit, next week the tabloids are gonna start saying you're fucking guys, I don't know, you're in bathrooms with Lance fucking Bass."

Vince slams his door and says, "Well, you know what? Fuck that, I'll just tell them he's awesome in the sack," and they both sulk all the way home.

Fandom: Entourage

Author Website: fanfic by astolat

This story, jesus wept. It breaks your heart and puts it back together with cellotape and elmer's glue. And that may not sound like a reccomendation, but trust me on this, it most definitely is. The thing about Vince is that--he's a person who takes chances. He's a risky guy. Sometimes those risks pay off, and he's a golden boy. Other times, he falls on his face, but he almost always gets back up again.

The only times he hasn't are when he risks the people he loves.

Um, and the other reason I love this story is because it is very much my wish fulfillment for Eric Murphy. Apart from the catalyst. Anyway, go read.

"Hey, promise not to punch me?" he said, when they got out of the car.

"What?" Eric said, but Eric wasn't going to hit him anyway, Vince knew that, so he went ahead and did it. They were just outside the door; Eric had the keys in his hand. Vince kissed him carefully, holding Eric's head still so he wouldn't mess it up by jerking around, making it serious and going deep, breathing in so he caught Eric's aftershave, licking at Eric's mouth. He tasted like beer, and his mouth was soft, and it wasn't all that different, except he had a little scrapey beard shadow around his mouth that felt kind of cool, and his shoulders, that was different. It was weird, because Eric wasn't a big guy, but kissing him they felt huge, big and solid, and his arms under his shirtsleeves were hard.

"What the fuck?" Eric said, shoving him off. "Are you high?"

So for my last Entourage reccomendation for the month, I saved the absolute best for last. I only found this story recently, and was absolutely blown away both by the scope of it and by the astonishing truth of it. Fourteencandles understands both Vince and Eric so very very well; the characterization in this story is note-perfect. This story is, god. It's like my one true story in this fandom. This is them, this is why I love them, this is why I want all of you people to love them as much as I do. I cannot reccomend this story enough.

Things you should know: it is very long! Be prepared to lose some hours of your life reading it. In fact, earmark a Saturday, make a pot of tea, and sit down in a comfortable location, because you will not want to leave in the middle of it. Also, the Turtle characterization--and yes, I said Turtle, in a Vince/Eric story--is absolutely stunning. I wish the show wrote Turtle as well as this author does.

So if this fawning effusiveness isn't enough to get you going, here's a taste:

The thing between Eric and Vince had rules. Eric liked this. He liked the idea of order being imposed. He’d had rules in every relationship he’d ever been in, from his mother on down. With Vince, the stakes were higher, so the rules were more absolute. Eric didn’t write them down anywhere, but he kept track. Even after things were over, he could have quoted the rules as quick as he could come up with his home address in Queens, the license plate number of the first car he’d ever outright owned, or the first line he’d ever heard Vince say on the big screen.

Rule number one: No one could know.

They figured this out in high school.

If We Were Anybody (Here's Us Together Series)

And that's it for me. There's more Entourage fiction out there! Don't despair! I hope you've enjoyed this fandom and these stories as much as I have.
