Why this must be read:

This is another how Tony Dinozzo started working for NCIS story and it's a really good one. Long, involved story; a well thought-out plot with a horrific case at its center. I love how well the author depicts Tony's pain, weariness, wariness, and his unfailing sense of duty. The way that Gibbs sees all of this and how he reacts to it. The little clues to Tony's background are a great touch.

The descriptive language and the details paint appallingly clear pictures in my head. I can see the black and white photographs and the drawings in excruciating detail. The case makes horrifyingly logical sense. Excellent story.

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Tony DiNozzo/Tim McGee, previous Tony DiNozzo/Jethro Gibbs
Length: Long

Author Website: Tigerlady's Twisted Thoughts
Why this must be read:

I love seeing Tony through another character's eyes, especially Tim's. I love the way that McGee won't let Tony hide, makes him have to deal with him and with the aftermath from the Jean op. I love the slow build-up, the going forward and then falling back of their story. Great dialogue. And they're both such guys. Lovely read.

10:36 pm 'Beyond the Far Horizon' by Salr323 (PG to R)
Wow, May was too crazy and I totally flaked on my recs here. Well, not totally. I'll get some in over the next few nights. :)

Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbbean
Pairing: Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann
Length: 13 Chapters
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] salr323
Author's Website: Sal's Fanfic
Why this must be read...

Posted a chapter a day as a holiday gift to all of us last year, this is one of the best Jack/Elizabeth stories ever, with a lot of post-At World's End angst, a bit of comedy, fabulous romance, heart-stopping adventure, spot-on characterizations, excellent period detail, writing of the highest caliber, AND it's a road-trip story, which is one of my favorite things in life. Will/Elizabeth is treated with respect as well, and Will has a memorable turn in his capacity as Captain of the Flying Dutchman.

Summary: Shipwreck Cove has been attacked, and Pirate King Elizabeth has been taken to England and thrown in prison. As usual, it's Jack to the rescue.

Don't miss Beyond the Far Horizon!

11:36 pm The Not Themselves Affair by M.E. Wells (PG-13)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Illya/Napoleon
Length: 15,330 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author's Website: none listed

Why this must be read:

Napoleon and Illya have just come back from an exhausting, body-killing, mind-numbing affair. So Waverly gives them a simple job - take a 12 year old genius for testing at the Institute. But, unfortunately, the two of them get mixed up in an experiment, land in other people's bodies and lose the boy. Just a normal day at the office.

What makes the story so fascinating are the two men's thoughts about each other. They may be in new bodies, but they haven't changed personalities and their observations of each other are insightful. And, of course, there's the plot - find the boy, find a way to switch back and find the bad guys.

Illya dutifully ordered two bottles of chilled vodka, pouring some into one of the generous-sized glasses while Dena freshened herself. He settled on a chair with a glass of the clear liquid in hand and considered his predicament. It wasn’t that Dena wasn’t attractive -- she was. But unlike his partner, Illya didn’t consider love-making an extracurricular activity. It was something he did with discretion when he wanted to -- he wasn’t a performing seal.

Dena reentered the room dressed in a revealing black negligee.

Damn. Better pour on the vodka. Illya rose and filled a tumbler to the brim, handing it to her and starting to return to his chair. But Dena took the drink with one hand and grabbed him with the other, propelling him onto the sofa next to her.
