(note: all story-related icons so far courtesy of Starfox screen caps)Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim/Blair Length: medium Author on LJ: gritkittyAuthor Website: http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/guests/gritkitty.htm Why this must be read: This is another poignant story that is the trademark of the talented gritkitty.
Did I say I love POV stories? I do, especially Jim’s. It’s so easy to think of him as a “surface” kind of person – what you see is what you get. But we glimpse his depths in canon, and being able to get into his head is wonderful. Shortly after Blair becomes a detective and they become lovers, Blair discovers that he's fathered a child and the mother has abandoned the little girl. He decides to raise her and Jim tries to figure out his place in the new family dynamic. He moved his foot to the accelerator and drove home where he parked and got out of the truck and walked up the stairs to the apartment that used to be enough, used to be fine for two men but now was crowded with Legos and dolls and plastic dinosaurs and wooden blocks scattered on the floor, a highchair in the kitchen, a potty-chair by the john, a crib in the spare room. He thought longingly of sunny blue skies and roaring surf as he braced himself to face Blair in a pissy mood because it took great effort to soothe Julie's fussiness, especially when she was sick.
Outside the door, he sensed stillness. A heavy scent, the quiet ambient sounds of the building's slow decay, the humid sighs of Blair and Julie, asleep. Jim entered, closed the door silently, and stole to the couch. Blair lay sprawled there, one foot on the floor, knee bent. Julie lay draped over his chest, snoring wetly into his shirt. Jim passed his hand over her head, not touching the damp hair but feeling the aura of heat around her body. Ninety-nine point one degrees, he judged. Down from this morning's misery of 103.6.
"Chief." Jim touched Blair's arm, ran his fingers up to the shoulder gently. Blair's chest inflated, raising Julie's head. He woke a little groggy and greeted Jim softly. Jim reached for Julie; with Blair's help, he lifted her without disturbing her slumber. Her sultry laxness roused Jim with tender power, and despite his yen for freedom he responded to her absolute trust. Happy Father’s Day to all those men who step up to the plate, biology notwithstanding. Another Mode of Belonging (don't forget feedback to the author!)

Fandom: HOUSE MD Pairing: House/Cuddy, Stacy Length: 3000 words Author on LJ: ellixianAuthor Website: Ellixian's Housefic tag. Why this must be read:This is a story about the small betrayals, and how long it takes to forgive someone; how long it takes to fall in love, and how messy it is once you do. Cuddy lunches with Stacy, and whether they talk about House or not, he's a huge part of the silences between them. I like the slow build of this story, and all the things that the characters don't say. It's House/Cuddy, with House/Stacy in the interstices, but I think of it as Cuddy and Stacy: two powerful female characters, who have dealt with House in such different ways. Fandom: HARRY POTTER Pairing: Harry Potter/Severus Snape, Helga Hufflepuff/Salazar Slytherin Length: ~ 5,600 words Author on LJ: draegynAuthor Website: unknown Why this must be read: There are many fics in the HP fandom that have Harry going back to the founders time...as well as fics where characters have their gender changed for whatever reason. This story however is very different from any others. Draegyn's Harry is hilarious, with enough Slytherin in him to make life very interesting. Harry sighed miserably and tried, discretely, to loosen the corset. The damn thing was turning his internal organs into so much mush.
At that instant, adding insult to injury, Harry happened to see Ron snickering at him. Oh, did he forget to add Ron to The List? Because he was up there, way up there. What to do… what kind of punishment for a boy who did nothing while his girlfriend turned his best friend into a girl and then laughed when said girlfriend made it so that only she could break the spell? Harry was stuck doing this bloody show and tell on the life of Hufflepuff. The least interesting of the founders to boot! Otherwise, Hermione wouldn’t turn him back!
ARRRGGGG!!!
If the gods hated him half as much as Snape did, then they were surely getting a laugh out of this! Snape certainly was. Hidden in a shadowy corner near the door, he was getting maximum entertainment value for this spectacle. Harry hated him.
Harry hated Hermione. Hell, he just hated the whole damned world. He wished that somebody would just put him out of his bloody misery. H is for Helgaand sequels : S is for Slytherin: the apprenticeS is for Slytherin: the Master

Well, I get to be your Starsky & Hutch Driver this month, sorry about the late start. Expect lots of slash, a little gen, and and a few out-of-the-way stories, as I attempt to find good stories that haven't already been recced here. On to the rec!Fandom: Starsky & Hutch Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Length: Mid-length one shot. Author on LJ: ? Author Website: Candy's Place Why this must be read:
This is one of my favorite fluffy-angst S&H stories. Candy Apple explores the possible ramifications of a certain canon-based practical joke in a very realistic way, but still leaves us with a sweet and happy ending, hot sex included. Blindfolds

Fandom: TWILIGHT Pairing: Jacob/Bella Length: Mid-length one shot. Author on LJ: flowers4ophelia Author Website: Sara's fic tag Why this must be read:Okay, so maybe I have a love for five things fics. This is my second one this month and it won't be my last. I love them. And this one is just fabulous. Sara presents us with five distinct scenes -- each one wonderful, and tragic, and complete, but they all fall together into something truly fabulous. I have re-read this fic many times, because it's Sara at her very best -- wonderful prose, great characterization, and taxi cab sex. Everyone's a winner. Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: Steven/Dodo Length: 4142 words Author on LJ: bibliophile887Author Website: bibliophile1887's fics on TeaspoonWhy this must be read: Dodo is intent on making Steven realise his feelings for her match hers for him. You can see how they get closer in the segments of the story connected directly with the episodes. The last scene is quite sad and hopeful. Because it's written from Dodo's point of view you can't quite tell from Steven's actions what he feels, so I like that it's ambiguous - we only know as much as Dodo knows at any point.
