Pairing: none (Racetrack, Skulls)
Length: 2,000+ words?

Why this must be read:

I love fics that give us a look at the characters who don’t get quite as much screentime as the leads or the regulars. It’s great when fic can give the secondary or even tertiary characters more depth, layers that we’d never otherwise see. Lint does just that with Racetrack, his point-of-view character for this story. He takes an incident from season 4’s Escape Velocity, an incident that was perhaps only meant by the show writers to give more punch to Tyrol’s later actions, and makes it so much more real by letting us see it through the eyes of Racetrack and her ECO. He gives us a glimpse of what it must be like for these pilots to face death on a daily basis and how they react to something that hits a little too close to home.

End Over End

Enjoy! :)

09:27 pm Mistress of Turquoise by Sylvia and Nicolas (PG)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Methos/OFC
Length: 33K words
Author Website: http://www.iras.ucalgary.ca/~volk/sylvia/index.htm

Why this must be read: This fic is written using some of the most beautifully descriptive prose ever. While, the historical details are both accurate and really help enhance the setting.
In this Methos and Kronos meet for the first time and their separate POVs of the confrontations give real insight into their characters. They are...not innocent, both of them are already quite world-weary, but so much less disillusioned compared to what we see in Highlander Season 5.

The Winchesters’ adventures play out in Victorian England. What a gem. The author lovingly details the era for us. The characterizations of Sam and Dean are true. If you’re a Sherlock Holmes fan, you will enjoy this.

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Gen, horror. Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester
Length: Short

Author Website: LJ
Why this must be read:

Apocalyptic fics are a staple of this fandom, and here’s a great example of one. This story was written before the Season 3 finale aired.

Sam saves Dean from his deal with the Crossroads Demon. But Dean (and the reader) can’t fathom the consequences until the shocking ending.

A “could’ve been a Twilight Zone episode” kind of story.

The build to the climax is skillful. Subtle clues are inserted here and there. Statements that you think are exaggerations… aren’t. When you get to the end, you’ll immediately re-read – and you won’t be able to say the author cheated.

The ball of twine, to Dean's surprise, turns out to be kind of cool in a second-tier roadside attraction sort of way. Sam insinuates himself into a group of retirees, and comes back a few minutes later towing a guy who looks like a composite photo of every RV owner Dean has ever met. (There’s a clue in that paragraph, by the way.)
