(this icon is from Lorraine Brevig’s original art, created for the Jake Universe. Isn’t it gorgeous?)
I have a guilty pleasure. I might need a 12-step program. I just love stories where Blair or Jim are parents. Both of these men are loving, giving, intelligent, wise, sensitive and well-rounded. Wouldn’t it be a shame if they didn’t pass any of that on to another generation? They both have parental issues – I’m sure that would make them aspire to be better parents. And, of course, if they were the biological fathers, would we see little sentinels and guides? LOTS of potential here. So, have I convinced you to join me? *g*

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 409K

Why this must be read:  Because Aly shows us what great parents Jim and Blair would be.

“Everything’s Jake” (also a slang term meaning “everything is great”) is a terrific story of love and growth. Typical Aly, it’s funny and warm but not without angst. Post series, Blair has become a detective. He’s moved out of the loft to quell the rumors that he and Jim are lovers, even though that’s what he would like them to be. He moves into a great place and makes friends with the landlady, who is raising her small grandson. Jake is precocious and quickly helps fill the void Blair is feeling in his life. Just before Halloween, she asks Blair to watch Jake for a few days. They visit Jim’s place on Poker Night, where Jake is introduced to all of their Major Crime co-workers and Blair’s parenting skills are put on display. Jim, missing Blair and loving him in secret as well, starts hanging around Blair’s place and, in fact, likes it better than the loft. Tragedy places Jake in Blair’s custody, and Blair decides to raise Jake with Jim at his side.
This story might be a little sweeter than you’re used to; after all one of the protagonists *is* a four-year-old. But Aly based Jake on one of her nephews, which lends authenticity to the situations, and her other original characters are well developed.  Blair and Jim are mature here – not without insecurities, but prepared to make life-changing decisions. I hope you will give it a try.
Father’s Day Bonus: Behind the cut are the rest of the Jake stories, in chronological order, covering about a year’s time. Aly engages a village to raise Jake, including the MC gang, Naomi as a cool grandma and William as a doting grandfather. In the Full Circle trilogy, Blair’s father’s identity is revealed. How’s that for a Father’s Day extravaganza!   Happy reading!

12:36 pm Eric Foreman Doesn't Take It Up The Ass (But If He Did...) by Ignaz Wisdom (NC-17)
Fandom: HOUSE MD
Pairing: Chase/Foreman
Length: 6600 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom
Author Website: http://ignaz.betweenthepages.org/
Why this must be read:

I have only one thing to say: sheer, unadulterated hotness. And nothing makes porn hotter than pitch-perfect characterization, which [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom has in spades. Foreman needs to be in control, and Chase knows it...but Chase also knows that bottoming and being out of control aren't the same thing at all. He wants to push Foreman, and Foreman just might be okay with being pushed--if Chase does it just right.

Sample the hotness. )

Hoo, baby. That's the stuff.

Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Kon-El, Bart Allen
Length: One-Shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cccarioca
Author Website: Fic listing can be found here
Why this must be read:

This should be read because it is an absolutely hilarious way to tell a classic trope of fanfiction. Bart realizes he is gay, and has to talk it over with someone. He picks Kon-El, much to the horror of Kon (who is a tremendously awesome friend here anyway, despite his confusion) and the joy of the audience. What really makes this work is that Kon and Bart are really recognizable as themselves and the humor just highlights everything that is wonderful about the DC comic universe.

Bart smiled, apparently glad for the attention. "So I decided to tell the team, because of the total disclosure policy and stuff and especially since I had no evil secret of my own except stealing Gar's underwear and that was only kind of evil, but anyway, I went there this week-end, and I wait for everyone to be seated for lunch, and I decide to slip the announcement all casual like, and I ask Cyborg to pass the lasagna to a homosexual at this table ..."

"Oh, boy."

"... and he passed the lasagna to Gar and there was this huge scene, and Gar started yelling, and Cassie tried to calm him down, and he made a lesbian crack about Amazons and then Cassie started screaming, and strangling him, and the others tried to separate them, and it turned into this huge fight, so I decided to rethink my plan and I left."

There was a small perverse part of Kon - which he totally blamed on the Luthor genes - who was idly wondering how to retrieve the record of that scene from the tower's security logs.

06:45 pm The War Works Hard, by Pares. (PG-13)
Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: Gen
Length: ~ 1,080 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kormantic
Author Website: http://www.kormantic.com/

Why this must be read:

I've read this story about 2 years ago for the first time. I barely knew the characters then, but I was impressed with this story anyway. I loved the language and the images it created, very realistic and painful.

Now, after having watched the show, I read it again. And even though so much time has passed since I read it, its images and emotions were easily recalled. And now I love it even more. I wish this would have been shown on the show. The realities of war and its consequences. And in between all that the characters, and their care for each other, in a very subtle way.

09:04 pm This House is Burning by Tesla (R)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Length: the trilogy is 205K in total
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tesla321
Author Website: "It's Just A Cat"
Why this must be read: Because this series is one of the few Profiler!Mulder stories that doesn't portray him as going crazy when he profiles. Because Tesla believes that while Mulder may not want to admit it, he loves to profile. Because the writing is excellent, the UST is sizzling and the sex, when it happens, is both realistic and very hot. Tesla likes Mulder and Scully as a pairing best early in the show's run, when they are still young and relatively unscathed. As it happens, so do I. This story has it all: a great casefile, and a classic romance.
