Why this must be read:   If you can bear the subject matter, you will be blown away by the depth of knowledge and the command of language in this case-related story.

A former cult leader who was jailed for abducting, torturing and killing people 20 years before has escaped. The pattern of abduction has started again, and Jim and Blair have been assigned the case. Blair has personal reasons for not wanting to participate.
Dark and terrifying, “Letters” covers the subject of multiple personalities (like Sybil and Three Faces of Eve) and exactly what horrors a small child would go through in order to develop them. It is handled sensitively and realistically and though there's light at the end of the tunnel, the tunnel is very long. Demi’s knowledge of medical terminology is excellent. She also does a very nice job of weaving in canon incidences -- such as why Naomi mistrusts police and how Blair booked two dates for the same night -- into this chilling tale. Read her warnings carefully and then be prepared for a superbly written story – all the more impressive because she is German.

Fandom: Starsky and Hutch
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Warnings: Explicit Violence, details of the Holocaust

Why It Should Be Read: Greenlady writes some very interesting and imaginative fic, and this is one of my favorites by her. Set during World War 2, the attention to detail and realism is excellent, and the characters are lovingly portrayed. There are some fantasy elements, but they enhance the story beautifully. Well worth reading.

Why this must be read:

When I think of Kory, I think of [livejournal.com profile] rubynye. Every bit as much as I think of Marv Wolfman or George Perez and far more than any other fandom writer than I can immediately name. You can't go wrong in reading any fic of hers that has Kory, because the characterization is so real and true and strong. But I had to narrow it down to one for [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, so I went with this fic because it combines two of my favorite DC pairings of all time.

This story should be read because it captures Kory and Dick at a time when they were comparatively very innocent, and the Dick and Kory that exist here are so right for each other that you want to lock them in a cage and keep them from breaking apart. It manages to be both very hopeful, while at he same time bringing an  impending sense of doom - you know this moment is special because the innocence between them isn't going to last. Also, the slash overtones work because of Kory's strength, and she is not in anyway denied her awesomeness or agency.

"He's our friend." And the next time he sees Dick, he'll be treated to a spectacular blush. "He's our teammate." He'll demand to know why, and he'll tease Dick mercilessly whether or not he gets an answer. "Roy and I were sidekicks together. We aren't--- we haven't---"

Kory smiles, cupping Dick's cheek. "I think you want to. I think you both do."

He forces himself to frown at her. "Kory, that's not the point."

Her eyebrows draw down a little. "I can't be everyone you want, Dick."

Dick puts his hand over hers. "You're everything I could ever need." When she doesn't smile yet, he squeezes it. "And I love you."

Kory smiles at that. She always smiles when he says that. "I love you, too, Dick." She sighs and rolls over to spoon into him, tugging his arm around her waist. The discussion seems to be over, but he should probably push it, tell her not to bring his friends up in bed like that again. It was hot, but really kind of strange.

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Barbara/Ian
Length: 1200 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] atraphoenix
Author Website: atraphoenix's fics on Teaspoon
Why this must be read: At first it seems like an odd idea, making Ian a fan of fairy tales, but it really works. Their themes are woven throughout the story and the events that Ian experiences. After reading it it's hard to imagine that this isn't exactly how Ian thinks of them.
