06:37 pm Till Human Voices Wake Us (PG-13) by little_murmurs
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Pairing: Racetrack/Starbuck, others in background
Length: ~6,500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] little_murmurs
Why this must be read: I'm reccing something that's not porn! That's how you know it must be a special fic.

"Till Human Voices Wake Us" follows Racetrack from the pre-series days when Galactica was an antiquated dumping ground for troublesome personnel, up through season 2. The pairing is Racetrack/Starbuck, but ultimately, the story centers on Racetrack's unrequited love for Boomer and the emotional fallout when Boomer's secret is revealed. The fic is witty, sharp, and touching.

08:23 pm Sometimes a Cigar... by Nataliya (PG-ish)
Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Length: ~3,100 words, one-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cousinnat
Author Website: Not that I know of, but her stories can be found on The Chrome and Gunmetal Madhouse and at File 40
Why this must be read:

Any MFU fan will tell you that things are really bad when non-introspective Illya, the man who shrugs his shoulders and says "things are what they are", is troubled enough by nightmares to seek out a psychiatrist's advice

This story is a wonderfully revealing, character-driven gem of Freudian sleuthing. Contrary to the sexual innuendo of the title, "Sometimes A Cigar..." isn't about sex, but about everything else that makes life worth living – namely, other people and how we feel about them.

Nataliya has a marvelous ear for dialogue, and her Illya sounds as if he could've stepped right out of an episode. And even if Napoleon only makes a cameo appearance – well, he's certainly at the heart of the story.

Sometimes A Cigar…

I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do.

09:29 pm Five Minute "Emissary" by Zeke (PG)
Fandom: DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: none
Length: 15k
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: FiveMinute.net

Why this must be read:

Zeke is renowned for his five minute website that takes Star Trek episodes (and so much more) and condenses them into summaries that can be read in. . . you’ve guessed it. Zeke is also one of my favourite Deep Space Nine précis producers, and his version of the series premiere Emissary is a hilarious and pithy analysis of DS9’s strengths and weaknesses.

Whether you’ve seen the episode or not, Five Minute "Emissary" is definitely a thinking man or woman’s crack. Much like the show itself, come to think of it.
