Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: None Length: 40.000 words Author on LJ: josanpq or tales_of_josanAuthor Website: Josan's pageWhy this must be read: Sorry for the absence, work is very distracting. And yes that rating over there is gen..... *looks at the sky* Nope, it's not fallen on my head yet *g* Cause it is one of the very few gen stories that I have read in this fandom and I keep going back to it over and over again? Bill Weasley is in it (always a bonus point) Severus' punishment by the wizarding community at large is something that I can see as being done The gobblins are cute and clever and quite honestly interesting Egypt, I've always loved Egypt *g* Quite honestly this is a wonderful story set upon examining the what ifs of Snape being punished for his actions in the War and the opportunity for change appearing through the form of Bill Weasley and the need for his expertise at potions. It is as I mentioned gen, but should you feel inclined it can be read as pre-slash, which sometimes creates much stronger emotions than slash. Fandom: HIGHLANDER/BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Pairing: none Length: ~1000 words Author on LJ: gryphonrhiAuthor Website: Rhiannon's EyrieWhy this must be read:Rhi has written several lovely HL crossovers, and it was really hard for me to pick just one. Do yourself a favor and spend some time browsing her website. "Clair de Lune" is a Joe and Oz story, and it always leaves a big smile on my face, because come on, JOE AND OZ. Joe's warmth, Oz's quiet humor, and their shared love of good music make this a delightful and utterly natural interaction between two characters who are often relegated to the background. Fandom: HOUSE M.D. Pairing: House/Rodney McKay Length: 1,939 Author on LJ: Author's LJ profile Author Website: Dee's Fics Why this must be read: It's Crack Van Collisions day! In honor of that, here's an AU crossover with Stargate: Atlantis in which House makes a phone call to an escort service and meets a guy named Dr. Rodney McKay, a genius who has a job on the side. It's absolutely hilarious, with the snark between the smartest guys in two galaxies flying thick and fast. ( Excerpt )Filling In

Title: Father Goose and the Black Knight Pairing: Xander/Faith Author: litmouse Length: 74,653 words Author on LJ: Not that I know of. Website: Here at Twisting the Hellmouth Why this must be read:I read this story for the first time when I was going through a phase of rabidly reading every Xander-y crossover I could find. Among those mounds and mounds of stories, this one stood out. For one thing, it's got a plot. I know, I could barely believe it, either! Not only does it have a plot, it has character development. By the end of the story, I not only cared about the folks from BtVS, I cared about the SVU people and the original characters. On top of these sterling qualities, this story is tightly paced, so that even at this impressive wordcount, it doesn't drag. The characters stay in character. They grow, they change, but they are still the characters that I know and love. And as a devotee of the man-love, I'm extremely impressed with the way the author convinced me of Xander/Faith and made me root for them. If you enjoy this story, litmouse wrote several others in this verse, each crossing with a different fandom. They are all handled just as skillfully. ( chunk of a snippet )Go. Read. Love. Title: Riggins & Winchester by Bone and parts by devilc They called it an accidental collaboration *g* Pairing: Tim Riggins/Dean Winchester Author on LJ: thisisboneAuthor Website: Slash Fan Fiction by Bone and DevilC can be found here Why this must be read: I've been waiting ALL month to rec this story. It's the perfect FNL primer for a non-watching SPN fan. It's the perfect SPN primer for the non-watching FNL fan. Bone helpfully provides images in case you're unfamiliar with any of the characters. It's smart. It's sexy. It's hysterical. They even deal with Adrienne Palicki being on both shows. ( Excerpt )Riggins & Winchester

Title: Chiaroscuro Pairing: Death/Gerard Way Length: 731 words Author on LJ: athenejenAuthor Website: ??? Why this must be read:Because, aside from the sheer undiluted crack factor of doing a Sandman-RPF story, and especially with Gerard Way who is a huge and unabashed fan of Sandman? athenejen avoids the trap that so many fall into of treating Death as this cute little gothchik. Gerard Way is on the rooftop with a force of nature and neither he, nor you, are allowed to forget that. Chiaroscuro.

Title by Author: Playing Games by Alinewrites Pairing: Thomas/Francis Length: 4 part series Author on LJ: alinewrites Author Website: Index of Aline’s DV fic on LJ Why this must be read: There have been plenty of DV crossover stories, but the most tempting targets are Blakes 7 (playing on Paul Darrow’s role as Avon) or The Sweeney (with John Thaw as D.I.Jack Regan). This is my personal favorite. Our hero is D.I. Frank Drake, substituting one John Thaw role for another – but the story is set in the Sweeneyverse, including other Sweeney favorites like George Carter. In the story, Drake goes undercover to solve a series of bdsm murders – a hot premise if I ever heard one – and he enlists the help of an old lover – who else – Thomas Doughty. “We’ll go undercover. I’ll take so many precautions that even you will think you’re someone else.”
Untying the knots around Doughty’s wrists he added lightly, “Of course if you’re too scared…”
“Emotional blackmail doesn’t work,” Doughty said, wiping himself up with his ruined shirt before going to a closet, pulling out clean ironed clothes. He took his time dressing up. Clean shirt, new tie, a suit as sophisticated and well cut as the first one. “You want to use me as bait.”
“No,” Frank said. “Cross my heart; I wouldn’t risk you.”
“They’ll ask you to display your skills as a top,” he said. “I’ll be expected to play your sub. I know how they work.”
I can’t ask him that, Frank thought. Not after what I did to him before. Then he remembered the photographs and hardened himself. “Three men died; who will be the fourth, do you think?” Part 1: Sex Crimes Part 2: Dangerous Acquaintances Part 3: Beauty and the Beast Part 4: Rescue

Fandom: SMALLVILLE Characters: Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Chloe Sullivan (with various others) Pairing: Lois/Clark (kind of), Clark/Lana (sort of) Length: ~ 33,000 Author on LJ: -- Author Website: FF.net accountWhy this must be read:Once upon a time, Clark Kent got his wish and became human. He got engaged to Lana Lang, got a football scholarship, worked on the farm and lived happily every after. Except not. Jade takes a plot used often by pros and fans alike and blows nearly every other version, pro and fan alike, out of the water. The day before her wedding to Clark, Lois falls into another reality, one where Clark never embraced his powers. In fact, he gave it all up. Even more of a surprise, he never met Lois Lane because Chloe apparently never even mentioned her. This world has no Lois Lane. Considering Lois is as integral to the Superman mythos as the S-sigil and underoos-over-tights, this lack has severe consequences. But Jade doesn't only create a great drama, she throws in mystery, great dialogue, and even better characterisation. For all that the world is different, at the core, all the characters are familiar. Bring tissues. ( Excerpt this way ) A World Without Superman

Title: Shades of Love by Nancy Pairing: Gibbs/CJ Cregg, Gibbs/DiNozzo Author on LJ: slashy_me Author Website: The TenthMuse1 FanfictionWhy this must be read:I'm not normally a fan of Gibbs in a relationship other then with Tony or maybe Abby, even for just part of a story, but this one really works. If you don't know the West Wing very well, Mark Harmon guest starred for a few episodes as a secret service agent, Simon Donovan who was guarding CJ. They were just beginning a relationship when Simon was killed in a conveniance store hold up. Then, some time later, the NCIS team gets a dead marine in the oval office. Nancy really makes the relationship between Gibbs and CJ work, making it hard to dislike CJ even while Tony is misearable watching the man he loves in a relationship with someone else. It takes some Tony owies before Gibbs opens eyes to whats in front of him. But it all works out in the end :) Shades of Love

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE / STAR WARS Pairing: Napoleon/Illya and Han/Luke Length: 265KB, one-shot cross-over Author on LJ: ladyraAuthor Website: Visions of Pretty Boys Doing Naughty Things Here's a story that makes me practically weep with joy, as it crosses my two favorite fandoms and pairings in the entire world. What makes it even sweeter is that the story resulted from a MediaWest*Con luncheon with Lady Ra, myself and my Evil Twin (who dangled an adorable "Two out of two Solos agree - blonds in black - it's a good thing" t-shirt in front of Lady Ra). As a thank-you, Lady Ra came up with this wonderful story, dedicated to my lovely Evil Twin. It wasn't an easy task to find a way for two travelers from A Galaxy Far, Far Away to meet up with two very earth-bound spies, but Lady Ra is very talented with such things. Han and Luke come to Earth on the trail of a "disturbance in the Force", while at the same time Napoleon and Illya are ordered to investigate a series of bizarre events. As each pair unravels the frayed clues on either side of the escalating occurrences, Illya's mysterious past is revealed, and the four men are inevitably drawn toward each other. I'm particularly taken with Lady Ra's portrayal of Han and Luke here, which rings very true despite her minimal writing in that fandom. Napoleon and Illya's reactions to finding themselves at the center of some pretty unbelievable circumstances are a joy to read. By the way, Lady Ra is in the process of redesigning her website, so the link may be temporarily disabled. Please try again if you get an error message - the story really is worth reading! The Disturbance in the Force AffairI hope you enjoy this delightful cross-over story as much as I do.

Title: The Compassion Trap by Gil Hale Pairing: none Author on LJ: not here Author Website: Gil Hale's Literary LeafletsWhy this must be read:This was the story that introduced me to M7 - to Mog's popular ATF AU, to be specific. I first read it as it was posted to the SentinelAngst mailing list, and since I came in in the middle I had no clue what fandom Vin et al. were from, and so quizzed my husband extensively about this show about a bunch of ATF agents based out of Denver that he had to have watched. The story is a fairly straight-forward kidnapped-Vin, kidnapped-Blair story; its strengths are Gil's use of language, character depictions (including some interesting original characters), and interactions. Title: After Hours by J.A. Chapman Pairing: too many to count, both het and slash Length: 13k Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: unknown Why this must be read:Because it's unadulterated, smutty crack that pokes fun at canon, fanon, meta fiction and itself. Plus, After Hours ensures that everyone on DS9 finally enjoys a hedonistic break from all the war, suffering and betrayal of season seven. . . well, with one hilarious exception. ( Have a taste: )Go ahead and indulge yourself (I'll never tell). After Hours

Fandom: Due South Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski/Vecchio Length: ~ 2,880 words Author on LJ: aeryeAuthor Website: http://www.aerye.clubfen.com/Why this must be read: Threesomes, other than PWPs, are more miss than hit for me. This story is the most notable exception. Despite the hot sex this is more a character piece. RayK comes home and finds that Fraser and RayV have already started without him. And then, yes then the story truly starts. Great pacing - honestly my stomach made flip-flops - and wonderful character voices. I love how this story deals with the insecurities of the characters, so true to them and to life. ( Snippet )

Fandom: THE SENTINEL/NCIS Pairing: None Length: 777 words Author on LJ: shade_shifterAuthor Website: Shifty's Fanfic AsylumWhy this must be read:Sorry for the dearth of recs so far, I'll definitely be picking up the pace for the rest of the month! Anyway, this story is party of Shifty's Sentinel School series, although you don't really need to have read the original story enjoy the fic (although you should, because it's a good story as well). Basically, Abby's found out about these Sentinels, and sets out to proving (for her own knowledge) that Tony is one of them. What follows is a funny set of tests that are exactly Abby's style. Here's the first fic in the series, Sentinel SchoolThe story, Friends like TheseAnd the Series Index

Hey All! I'm meredydd_ross and I'll be reccing for Doctor Who this month. Sorry for the REALLY late start, but I promise to make it up to you!! So, to start off, here's the crossover for this month: Fandom: DOCTOR WHO/FIREFLY Pairing: Jack/Mal Length: Short, one-shot Author on LJ: fajrdrako Author Website: LJ Tagged Why this must be read: The Jack in this is a little more like the Jack we see in Torchwood than in Doctor Who, a little sadder, a little more serious, but still undeniably JACK at heart. The voices of the crew of the firefly are spot-on, and there's a nice interwoven complexity to the relationships that made me fall in love with both fandoms to begin with. Late start but I'll catch up. Fandom: RPF - CW Pairing: Jensen/Jared aka J2 Length: long Author on LJ: audraroseAuthor Website: http://audrarose.livejournal.com/80066.htmlWhy this must be read:AU. Bookstore. Artist!Jared and hurt!Jensen. I loved this one. Yes it's fluffly and yes it's romantic and yes it has the usual WB/CW fauna. But it's well done. One of my favorite of the Supernatural Big Bang fest of last summer. Well done romantic fic is something I love to find. Open Mike Night at the Fremont
