07:45 am Hero for a New Age by Smitty (Gen. Rodney & Ronon Friendship)
Hello! I'm [livejournal.com profile] wickedwords, and I will be driving the Stargate:Atlantis van this month on a death-defying trip through friendship, humor, hurt/comfort, and alternate universes. McKay/Sheppard is my preferred pairing, but I also like secondary character stories. I love emoporn, good world building, and I have a fondness for things that are just a bit creepy. But my first rec is nothing like that.

Fandom: STARGATE: ATLANTIS
Pairing: Rodney & Ronon Friendship
Length: 10K+
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] smittywing
Author Website: Smittyworld 2.0
Why this must be read:
I love the idea of using comic books as a way for Ronon to learn about the people living in Atlantis, and as a mechanism for talking about his own Satedan history. Ronon and Rodney end up bonding over stories of the Batman and the Fantastic Four and other superheroes, but more than that, they both learn a lot about each other. It's a fabulous relationship story.

08:09 am "This ... Is BNN" by scrunchy (PG)
Hello! I'll be your driver this month for the second ever round of RPF - Fake News! If you haven't had the opportunity yet, please check out the wonderful fandom overview provided by [livejournal.com profile] sailtonorway.

Fandom: RPF - FAKE NEWS
Pairing: None explicitly, but expect a little UST.
Length: 2800 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy
Author Website: Fake News: [livejournal.com profile] camera3; others can be found at her journal.
Why this must be read:

Quite simply, this is a prime example of PRT fic. If you aren't familiar with the genre, that stands for Pundit Round Table. The PRT includes Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, Keith Olbermann, and Anderson Cooper. They hang out, they snark at each other, they banter, and occasionally Keith and Anderson provide the reader with a little sexual tension to get them excited. [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy provides all this and more in This ... Is BNN, showing that she is one of the essential writers in this fandom.

Read on.

10:31 am Death-defying by Keerawa (R)
Hello, I’ll be reccing due South for November. Due South is the fandom of my heart. &hearts The quality of the writing is incredible, and the people in the fandom are smart, generous, talented and welcoming to newcomers. (And of course, the canon is nothing to sneeze at either.) I'm mostly a Fraser/Kowalski kind of girl, but I promise to provide some variety.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Length: 15.700 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] keerawa
Author Website: Keerawa's fan fiction and vids
Why this must be read:
Once I started, I just couldn't stop reading this story, and it touched me so much that it made me cry. It's a long AU where Fraser is a contract killer, and Ray Kowalski is a cop whom Fraser takes as a hostage. Considering Fraser's ethical principles in canon, it may sound far-fetched to turn him into a killer, but [livejournal.com profile] keerawa changes his history so that it feels entirely natural. And being Fraser, he's picky about what jobs he takes on.

I really admire the plotting here: canon events are changed and woven into the story in a natural way. But the thing that touches me most is the connection that Fraser and Kowalski make. There is sexual attraction, yes, but that's not the heart of it--it's kind of like the deep bond of loyalty between warriors in Greek mythology.

10:42 am Lost - updated overview
Hi, folks.
I'm going to drive the van for LOST in the next month.
It's been a while since Lost was last featured here, so here's the updated overview.
I hope you can find it interesting enough to give Lost a shot - it had its ups and downs but overall it's really a compelling show. And the fics are great too. ;)
Recs are coming soon!

Lost: An Overview

So, first of all huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sparky77: this overview is based on the one she did in 2005, when Lost was in its first season, and she did a great job with it. I’m just updating it with the latest plot developments and new characters.

Then, a big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee for patiently proofreading this while at the same time organizing challenges, moderating comms and generally cheerleading the Lost fandom. And of course thanks also to my flist for the useful comments and suggestions, and for the encouragement.

WARNING: this overview contains SPOILERS up to the Season 4 finale.

Lost, as [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 already mentioned, is quite hard to summarize, so if I left out anything that people think is important, please let me know and I’ll try to fix it.

12:32 pm Me, I'm Not by tju_tju_tju_tju (R)
Hello! I'm [livejournal.com profile] toestastegood, I'll be driving the Heroes van this month.

Fandom: HEROES
Pairing: Mohinder Suresh/Adam Monroe
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tju_tju_tju_tju
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] jf_and_sd is the comm for her fics.
Why this must be read: This pairing is possibly too prettily accented to be real - and that alone would be a reason to read it. On top of that, though, [livejournal.com profile] tju_tju_tju_tju offers a painfully accurate glimpse at Mohinder and at the lengths he'd be willing to go to for the greater good. Adam is delicious here, as perfectly manipulative as we've come to expect.

03:08 pm Telephones by Cucumberspy (PG)
Hey, I'm [livejournal.com profile] threeguesses , and I'll be reccing The X-Files this month!  [Insert witty driving metaphor here.]

Fandom:
THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Length: One-shot
Author on LJ: NA
Author Website: Grape Flavored Fiction
Why this must be read:

I love agnst done right, and Telephones is absolutely perfect.  An AU that examines what, exactly, might have had to be done to bring the Consortium down.  Cucumberspy says of her fic: "When I wrote this, I was so horrified at having written it that I didn't think I could ever post it" - the premise is just THAT dark, people.  In the hands of another author this fic could have been over-the-top character torture, but Cucumberspy turns it into a quiet, haunting portrayal of grief.

06:01 pm Bloodlines by Xenokattz
Hello, I'm [livejournal.com profile] tobywolf13 and I'll be driving the Crack Van this month. I'll try to do a range of fics, although Chloe fics are a personal fave, I'll be looking to put up some Clex, Clois, and maybe a few more uncommon pairings that I've always liked. So, buckle up and enjoy!

Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lois, Pete/Lana, mentions of past Clark/Lana
Length: Novel Length
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] xenokattz
Author Website: http://xenokattz.livejournal.com/tag/fanfic:+bloodlines
Why this must be read:

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] xenokattz recced some great fics last month but hers should not be missed in the least. She takes a story that weaves Smallville's mythology and the greater DCU seamlessly together. It's a story that takes an alternate look at Lana's pregnancy and the conspiracy surrounding it is gnarled enough to entangle her, Chloe, Clark, and Lex. It's something some complicated and strained that it takes over a decade and the team of Lane and Kent (with a lot of the Justice League thrown in) to work toward saving the day. Presidential Lex Luthor, 33.1, murders, plots reaching across Europe, a mystery so taught that even The Da Vinci Code would be envious. It's all here and it's all superb. I envy everyone who gets to read it in one sitting, and I know you will.
