12:18 am B'Elanna's Secret Series by Captain Jinx (NC-17)
Hey guys, I'm [livejournal.com profile] 50thousandtearz and I'll be piloting the Delta Flyer this month. I've noticed a lot of people hating on Star Trek Voyager and calling it the weakest in the franchise. Well, they're wrong! Because this show is so mind blowingly awesome! It runs the gamut from silly to amazingly well written, from funny to downright farcical, from heart breakingly sad to joyous and happy. Love the characters, love the premise, love the stories, love everything, and I hope there are some people who still love it like I do, 7 years later.

Here's the overview if you need to freshen up on your Voyager memories.

You can expect mostly het canon (and Doctor/Seven and Janeway/Chakotay is canon. BECAUSE I SAY SO. Are we clear?) and some gen. Enjoy the recs!

Fandom: STAR TREK VOYAGER
Pairing: Paris/Torres, minor Kim/Seven
Length: series
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: none
Why this must be read: First comes smut, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage (and some more smut) - that is how I would summarize this series. This was one of the first stories I ever read in this fandom, and it's stuck with me all these years, which has gotta mean something. Funny, cute, mostly in character and lengthy (which is a plus in my eyes), this is definitely a must read for the shippers.

The stories are out of order on the page, here is the correct order: )

Fandom: STAR TREK VOYAGER
Pairing: none
Length: short
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Sacajawea
Why this must be read: The Doctor doesn't have enough time to deal with all your pesky problems, so he's programmed a copy of himself with automated advice. I wish this were longer though, because I'd love to hear more of the Doctor's advice! Very funny.

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] jantalaimon, and I’ll be driving the Life on Mars van for the month of November. I’m mostly known in the fandom as a proponent of sheer, utter crack. And also twisted things. There may be some slash involved. Possibly. My OTP is Sam/Mobile, although I’m also a sucker for Sam/Procedure (who isn’t???). So without further unnecessary preamble, please to be preparing to be mowed down and sent back to 1973 at will! :D

FANDOM: Life on Mars
AUTHOR ON LJ: [livejournal.com profile] maestro1123
AUTHOR’S FIC SITE: None.
PAIRING: None. Gen, actually.
WHY THIS MUST BE READ: No matter what genre/pairing/etc. I’m reading, the surest way to suck me into a story is by the author making whatever it is they’re attempting to convey as plausible as possible. Yes, this can be done with crack, as well. This story, however, is not cracky---it’s definitely more on the angst side of the equation. The thing I love about it is how well Maestro knows her characters. She hasn’t written a lot in this fandom, which is our unfortunate loss, because she’s very good. An important way to ratchet up tension is to space it out, to make sure it ebbs and flows with just the right amount of tension-breaking sprinkled over it, like salt. That way, by the time you get to the end, you haven’t even realised the quicksand has swallowed you up.

EXCERPT:
On the first day, it rains constantly. Sam likes the rain, because it forces people indoors, and it makes the rest of the world nice and blurred. If he squints, through the streaked glass, he can almost believe he’s back home, another rainy day in bloody Manchester.

He sits by the window, at the battered little table, feet up. There’s a ring-bound notepad in front of him, and a heading in pencil, ‘Things To Do’. The rain makes him think of Blackpool, which makes him think of Annie, and then Gene, and then he tries just to think about the rain and nothing else, and crosses out ‘Blackpool’ on his list.

He could go to a concert. He always liked the seventies anyway, always got an urge to defend himself when he heard someone say the music was crap back then. He likes Bowie, Sweet, T-Rex. He could pick up some merchandise, even, a T-shirt or a poster or just a badge.

But even as he thinks about it, he knows he won’t do it. Going to a gig means believing he’s really here, that this is all real, and that means-

He won’t do it.

Sam rests his forehead against the glass, the ice-cold almost like a burn. And what would be worse, he wonders, to see a performance entirely unlike what he expected, or one that was exactly like it?

hiya guys, i'm hollytron and i'll be at the wheel of the knight bus van for harry potter this month. i'm admitted slytherin addict and most of my recs will be snermione or some permutation of snape/hermione/harry/draco. sorry about the delay, halloween was pretty crazy, but i'm here now and i've got plenty of recs for you guys this month!

Fandom:
HARRY POTTER
Pairing: snape/hermione, hermione/ron
Length: chaptered fic, so pretty epic.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63
Author Website: here

Why this must be read:

i figured i'd start my recs with the first HP fic i ever read. i've followed yahtzee's fics ever since reading the fantastic bangel epic phoenix burning in the BTVS fandom, and yahtzee still continues to amaze me, regardless of fandom preference. but this fic, this fic, has a super special place in my heart none of her others do because it accurately portrays not only a plausible dystopian future for them all, but also a realistic portrayal of what a relationship between severus and hermione would be like.

"Not so shy anymore," Snape said.

"No. Not anymore." Had he really thought her shy, all this time? She felt only a dim sense of gratitude that he made so many of her explanations for her.

He brushed a fingertip against her cheek. "You make me feel young."

"You make me feel wise," she said, without ever considering that it was true. She was asleep almost before the words were spoken.

04:33 pm Moonlight: An Overview
I was totally skeptical ("another vampire show? who needs it!" see also, "CBS sucks") and held out until almost halfway through the season, but when I finally got around to watching it I was totally hooked by half an hour into the pilot. I know what you're thinking - "I liked this show back when it was called [Dark Shadows]/[Forever Knight]/[Angel]". Yes, I will grant you that it is derivative. Yes, that blonde girl looks an awful lot like Kate, and there are blipverts and billowing coats and helping the helpless. However, here are my counterarguments - 1) Sophia Myles is a far better actress than Elisabeth Rohm, and 2) Jason Fucking Dohring. And if you never really thought DB was hot as Angel (*raises hand*), Alex O'Loughlin is smoking.

I give you Moonlight. (This guide goes up to Ep 1.09 (Fleur de Lis), aired 11/23/07.) All spoilers have been white-fonted for the leery. (The basic plot setup has been de-spoilered for your pleasure safety.) Disclaimer: this is How I See It (duh) which means mostly babbling about the pretty and snarky references to other actors/shows, with occasional mentions of actual show content tossed in for variety. Do not taunt Happy Fun Overview.

Moonlight: the Crack Van Overview )

Please, feel free to chime in with recs and any other info you may have - I wrote this guide a while back and I'm sure there's more stuff out there now, and I'd love to read some great ML fic.

05:39 pm 5 Ways he Probably Didn't get Hired by LeDiz (K+)
Hi
[livejournal.com profile] tashira_ronin
I'll be driving the NCIS van for the November month. I am not a writer but I read enormous amounts and found that fanfic was much cheaper than buying fiction and most times it was much better. So having read and read and read I thought it was time to share the writers I found and the van seems a great way to do it. I will admit to being Australian which means some of the things I find humorous may have to do with differences in customs, holidays etc
I read ALL types of fic but I am especially love good dialogue and angst. Slash, Gen or Het, I don't mind if it captures my mind .

( Oh and it looks like in on L plates, thank you for your patience)

On with the reccies

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing:No Pairing , pre slash if you squint.
Length: 11K
Author on LJ: [personal profile] ledizaka L.A. Sinclair
Author Website
:http://www.geocities.com/notewrit

Why this must be read:
I am a sucker for how members of the team came to be at NCIS. We Know Tim, Ziva and Kate's back stories but Tony, Ducky and Abby are a vast source for wondrous Ficcage.

This one by LeDiz has humour and great character dialogue to make you feel right at home in the NCIS 'verse. Could be pre-slash , if you squint.

05:47 pm Five things Captain Janeway really wishes her crew would stop doing... by AJ (PG)
Fandom: STAR TREK VOYAGER
Pairing: none
Length: short
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] aj
Author Website: fic list
Why this must be read: This five things fic packs quite a punch. Pet peeves, deaths, and guilt issues all rolled up into a few paragraphs. The squabbles and problems of the crew and Janeway's responsibility for them all...Janeway really is their mom lol, in all the silly and heartbreaking ways that that entitles.

Five things Captain Janeway really wishes her crew would stop doing that she can't justify issuing orders about

05:49 pm A pain I'm used to by elise_509
So, here's my first rec. I'm admittedly a Jack/Sawyer shipper, but I promise I'll try to rec different pairings as well. Enjoy!

Fandom: LOST
Pairing: Jack/Sawyer (mainly), Jack/Kate and Sawyer/Kate in a few scenes.
Length: Very long (6 parts + epilogue + extras) - I'd say 30k.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] elise_509
Author Website: Master fic list

Why this must be read:
Because it's an amazing, epic story of love. It's Jack and Sawyer, future!fic (now AU), set 1 year post rescue.

This is one of a my favourite authors. She is a great and consistent writer, and she has written at least three of my favourite series (I have a soft spot for Nailed and its dark, broken!Jack in particular).
But I'm reccing this one, in particular, because I think it can be considered a classic for this fandom.
[livejournal.com profile] elise_509 has an excellent grasp on both Jack - something not that easy to achieve - and Sawyer, and you will be able to feel this story in your bones, its angsty and happy moments, and to see it playing like a movie in front of your eyes thanks to her excellent visual writing and her care for details.

07:13 pm Atonement by m butterfly (PG)
Hi, I'm Mab, I'm back to take the van out for another spin, because I love The Sentinel just that much.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: Short Story
Author on LJ: Not known
Author Website: Not known
Why this must be read:

It's an old fannish trope - somebody else gives our beloved slashy lads a clue. In this case it's Naomi, finally using her powers for meddling for good - although not before she gives Blair the scare of his life.

One caveat, there's a small but annoying spelling mistake of Noble for Nobel. But now that you're braced for that, it won't take you out of your enjoyment of a piece of sweet fun.

07:27 pm Break by Jane St Clair (R)
Hiya, I'm the driver for the popslash side of things in November. I have absolutely no rhyme or reason for the recs I'll make (except that the author will almost certainly give good Chris)...

Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: Chris/Justin
Length: 5376 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] 3jane
Author Website: JaneFic
Why this must be read: Because it's not really a Justin is crazy fic. Because [livejournal.com profile] 3jane writes biting dialogue and gets the the difference between monumentally fucked up and crazy just right.
