02:36 am Pieces Tossed Aside by Ana (R)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Mal/Simon, whisper of Kaylee/Jayne
Length: 9230 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl
Author Website: Ana Fic
Why this must be read: Ana is absolutely amazing at capturing the voices and characters of the Firefly 'verse, and she manages to do so across a wide range of moods from apocafic to zany romp. This particular story is stunningly haunting and sublimely heartrending. It hurts in all the best and most transcendent ways, and it has a grinding inevitability to it which makes the horror of the storyline even more effective. It's perfect and beautiful and powerful, and it will take up irrevocable residence inside your skull.

09:34 am In the Evening by Lin P. (PG)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky and Hutch, see below
Length: 21K
Author on LJ: none known
Website: Lin P.
Why this must be read:

I ran across this older little gem a while ago and was smitten.

Lin P. doesn't say if it's gen or slash. While I think this falls into the latter, it really is in the eye of the beholder.

This story is just the two guys, out watching airplanes and stars, and having a conversation about life, the universe, and well, almost everything.

09:42 am Beautification by brighteyed_jill (R)
Fandom: HEROES
Pairing: None - gen (Monica)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] brighteyed_jill
Author Website:
Why this must be read: For me Monica was one of the best additions to series 2 of Heroes: she has a bright outlook on her powers, an optimistic attitude and the same squee that any of us would have if we woke up with an amazing power like hers. In this fic, the writer looks at what could happen if Monica and Micah's genuine desire to help people with their powers went horribly wrong.

10:41 am Beware of the fangirl by falafel_fiction (PG-13)
Fandom: LOST
Pairing: No pairing. Characters: Damon Lindelof, crazed Charlie fan.
Length: 1700 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] falafel_fiction
Author Website: Lost master fic list.

Why this must be read: Because it's hilarious. I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. And it's a bittersweet revenge for Charlie's fans.
It's Lost crossed with Misery. RPF horror/humour and Crack!fic. Damon Lindelof has been kidnapped by a crazy fangirl who is furious with him for killing off her favourite character.

[livejournal.com profile] falafel_fiction is one of the writers well known for her fascination with Charlie and her ability to write him in character.
I don't usually read a lot of fics about Charlie, though I like him a lot, but this was part of the Lost Horror Stories at [livejournal.com profile] lostsquee and I gave it a shot. And I loved it! :)
This time Charlie isn't here, but he is the very reason for the existence of this fic.

Excerpt:
Damon groaned as he drifted slowly back into wakefulness. He blinked his eyes and found that he was imprisoned in a small darkened room. His chest and arms were bound securely to a chair and his bare feet were roped together. He frowned as he remembered having Dom Monaghan tied up in this same fashion on his last few days of work. He winced, imagining there might be some horrible significance in this.

Beware of the fangirl

This fic has also a sequel, by a different author: Beware of the fangirls by [livejournal.com profile] elliotsmelliot, wherein, disgruntled that Damon did not follow through on his promises, the original fangirl decides it's time to take it up a notch.

10:43 am The exchange by zelda_zee (NC-17)
Fandom: LOST
Pairing: Jack/Sawyer, Jack/Sayid, Sawyer/Sayid
Length: Long (6 parts - probably 30/40k)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] exchange_fic for this 'verse, and Fic tag for all the fics by the same author (you can browse through several other tags, by pairing and genre).

Why this must be read:
It is my personal opinion that [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee writes unforgettable sex scenes; they become more special because of the emotions that the characters feel. This series can be considered another 'classic' for the fandom and it's a real pleasure to read. It's in character, angsty and with plot. And so hot.
It features a distressed and anxious Jack, an enigmatic and incredibly intriguing Sayid and a sexy and provocative Sawyer. In Vegas.

Summary: Future!fic (now AU). A year after their return, the survivors meet again in Las Vegas. What awaits Jack there is beyond his wildest imaginings. That night he strikes a drunken deal with Sayid which will have surprising repercussions.

Excerpt:
“Sayid!” he exclaimed, a laugh bubbling up, escaping, as Sayid grinned back at him.

“Jack,” he said, reaching out, clasping Jack’s hand in both of his, “Jack, it is good to see you again.” Sayid’s hands curled around his arms, as he looked into his eyes, his gaze traveling across his face, searching, and then he pulled Jack into a tight embrace and Jack relaxed into him, filled with gladness, the anxiety gone, replaced by an overwhelming sense of relief. He let Sayid hold him for a long moment, resting his head on his shoulder, feeling his warmth, breathing his cologne, a spicy scent, exotic like the man himself.

12:37 pm "Glitter" by mrschucknoblet (PG)
Fandom: RPF - FAKE NEWS
Pairing: John Oliver/Demetri Martin
Length: 837 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mrschucknoblet
Author Website: Unknown. There are two fics archived at her journal and another at fakenews_fanfic.
Why this must be read:

I wanted to rec you guys something a little different this month and avoid focussing too much on all the Jon/Stephen goodies that inundate the fandom. It's not that I don't like Jon/Stephen or any of the other common pairings you find in fake news RPF (I do!), but I thought you might like a taste of the unusual. You don't mind, do you?

Glitter is a short and really adorable fic about Demetri mooning over everyone's favourite foreign correspondent, John Oliver. It's sweet and endearing, and that line about glitter will stick in my mind forever.

02:44 pm Living on the Edge by Gen X (Adult)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Richard Dragon/Lady Shiva
Length: 3,144 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] infinitys_tale /[livejournal.com profile] joyeuxnoel
Author Website: The Thin Blue Line
Why this must be read:

In DC fandom, there's just not a lot of works on either of these characters, and that Gen X does such a great job with both of them is a treat. The piece is told through Richard Dragon's point of view, but it is Shiva who stands out in the piece. She is cunning, and perfect at her craft, almost effortlessly, as the character should be. She's also very human in the kind of three dimensional way that the female killers at DC rarely get to be.

"--understand now? How long will it take you to become worthy?"

"Of you?" I asked. I inhaled deeply as if I could breath in her essence like a drug.

"Of your name," she corrected. She smiled. "You will never be worthy of me."

"Give me time."

"I've been indulgent enough for this night."

When Cuddy miscarried, Cameron was there to comfort her.

07:33 pm East of the Sun by Roxymissrose (NC-17)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Pete/Lex, Clark/Whitney, Clark/Lex
Length: long novel length
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] roxymissrose
Author Website: none listed
Why this must be read:

This story should be read for the detail and effort put into it alone. The language, the settings, the plethora of well chosen references makes it all feel like as engaging a period piece as any film. The story sprawls out, taking us first into Lex's world in the jazz age (or the decline of it) and then to Clark in Kansas in the mid 1930s. It's when their worlds begin to mesh, that everything begins to speed to conclusion. Roxy's work is always characterized by amazing original characters who add to the landscape and this piece is no exception. In short, it's a story with everything---detail, plot, characters, and, of course, well written erotica.
