12:33 pm Gold and Gunmetal by eonism (PG)
Fandom: HEROES
Pairing: Mohinder/Bennet
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eonism
Author Website: -
Why this must be read: Bennet and Mohinder's partnership in series two brings an excellent dynamic to Gold and Gunmetal, along with some alarming foreshadowing about where the end of the season will take the two characters. [livejournal.com profile] eonism is the one that managed to completely sell me on this pairing; this a short fic, but so vividly written, and I would definitely recommend checking out her others with this pairing as well.

Fandom: LOST
Pairing: Jack/Sawyer
Length: 5300
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] gemjam
Author Website: Author's memories.

Why this must be read:
I had to get back to my favourite pairing, sooner or later. Even though she's been less present in the fandom in the last few months [livejournal.com profile] gemjam wrote a lot of Jack/Sawyer stories and each one of them is special.
This one is very hot and at the same time offers a great insight in the characters, offering a different perspective on what was the reason that brought Sawyer to steal the guns in S2. And, did I mention hot?

If you like her writing, I suggest checking out all her fics, but in particular the Jack/Ford series (AU where Jack meets the hitchhiker James Ford) - I truly loved that one - and the Collared series (Jack/Sawyer/Sayid BSDM), though it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

04:10 pm Or Something Like It by semivowel (R)
Fandom: STARGATE: ATLANTIS
Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
Length: 7700 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] semivowel
Author Website:McKay/Sheppard Tag
Why this must be read:
Really wonderful truth serum story, where John has an idiosyncratic reaction to the drug and it doesn't wear off right away. John's free flow of thought bothers his team so much that they take shifts trying to block other people from accidentally triggering him to talk about his feelings. It's told from Rodney's POV, and his voice is fabulous, with really clever phrasing that makes the ride worthwhile.

Author Website: Fiction by zulu

Why this must be read: Seeing beyond the boring/bored visage of Eric Foreman requires a real gift. The very gifted [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu gets beyond Foreman's cool detachment to discover a deeply observant and keenly self-aware man.

Misfiled
House hates change; Foreman knows it.

& sequel One Step To The Left
Foreman wonders if he's been stacked and filed as neatly as all the clutter in House's life, one more object that stays in its place, knows its purpose, fills its function.

06:36 pm Cause of Death and Wormwood by Marlissa Campell (PG-13)

Fandom: STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE
Pairing: none
Length: 7500 words (Cause of Death) and 325k (Wormwood)
Author on LJ:  [livejournal.com profile] plaguedocs
Author Website: Some of author's DS9 Fic archived at Trekiverse
Why this must be read:

Ten years is a long time in fandom, but Wormwood and its "spin-off" story, Cause of Death, are still worth reading. Both are set shortly after the retaking of DS9 and deal with the fallout of the station's fall to and recapture from the Dominion.  Both stories provide a close, thoughtful examination of the characters left behind on the station and the consequences of hard choices. The prose is crisp and elegant, and even the long Wormwood moves briskly.

Cause of Death is a short but dense explanation of reasons Ziyal's death as those who knew her struggle to come to terms not only with her loss but with those reasons. Though narrated by Bashir, the story focuses on how Kira, Dukat, and Quark deal with the ways in which their actions contributed to the death of an innocent.

Wormwood is a long and twisty parallel tale of what happens  when Starfleet sends a forensic psychiatrist to evaluate Gul Dukat. There are some highly charged encounters between Dukat and Kira, seen through the perspective of the story's narrator, the psychiatrist.  Without giving too much away, the story brilliantly captures the seductive allure of Dukat's madness ... or it is evil? It's a question the story asks well, leaving the reader to find the answer.

Why this must be read:

Haku is alive, barely, after the battle at the bridge. With his master, Zabuza, dead and a team of vengeful hunter ninja close on his trail can he hope to last long?

Luckily for us, the answer is yes! The Broken Tool explores Haku's character post-Zabuza, as he struggles not only with the hunter nin who are after him, but also Haku's search for new purpose in a world without his hero.
